shoreline by broken social scene is really good, in 7/4 but it takes you a while to realise. another classic is take 5 by dave brubeck, obviously in 5/4. quite a few of the tunes previously mentioned are in 4 but have a slightly wierd pulse - the birthday party one is actually in 4.
It is? I tried counting it in 4 and it just wouldn't fit. Stick it on your ipod and go for a walk, the 'one' is alternately on left and right foot. Maybe i have odd feet...

 3.
He's living in cloud cuckoo land if he thinks he's going to sell that. In fact, if he does I will fry, season and eat my own bollocks off a plate.
This guy's ridiculously-priced auctions have often been quoted here, and the current theory is that he doesn't expect to sell any of them (they might not even be authentic, so he's pricing them so no-one bids and no-one gets ripped off) but is using them as a publicity stunt. I just checked out his shop and found something useful and (relatively) sensibly priced: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NECK-PLATE-CUSHION-P...1742.m153.l1262
 4.
One pickup, one tone, four strings, the music and you. Simple!
My heart totally agrees with that, but my head keeps trying to add an extra string and pickup...
 5.
They wouldn't put stamped ones on a MIM though would they?
I doubt it. I bought some tuners advertised as genuine Fender (presumably MIM type) and they were neither Fender nor Schaller stamped. They had nasty sharp edges compared to any Fender, Schaller or Gotoh P type tuners I've ever seen.
 6.
How much would you pay for and old bit of plastic? 7. 8.
Did I mention that I'm working a really nice compact PA system? 1x12"+horn tops using the 3012HO and a big horn with very powerful compression driver and steep low frequency crossover to give good off-axis response, and then use the Big Sub singly or in multiples for the bottom. Use one of those new-ish Xti amps or similar with built in DSP filters and you'd have a fantastic sounding and seriously loud system for not too much money. Alex
Had you considered making them active? Built-in crossover>class D power amps = idiot proof
 9.
Way to check they are good is hold it up to the light and se if you can see light coming through between the jaws, you shouldn't be able to when they are closed.
+1, but they also have to be hard enough to cut stainless steel; most electrical side-cutters are designed for copper. Better quality cutters will have the capacity marked on the tool (or its packaging).

 11.
Come on Chris, do you really think I was serious
<blush> I wouldn't like you to think I was someone who checked when I was told that the word 'gullible' isn't in the dictionary. Or forwarded an email to everyone in my address book because Bill Gates is promising me $1 to every forwarded email. Anyway, Fender. Pah. Nothing but a Warmoth with a slacker neck pocket ;-)
 12.
Little known fact but Wal's, like Stingray's etc., were actually designed by Leo Fender
Really? I knew about MM, but I thought Wal were a British design. Tell more!

 14.
Yeah....the link didn't work properly, the thing I'm getting is " Planet Waves Pro String Winder (Bass) " ..It's got a cutter attached as well, that'll do the job right? Thanks.
ah, cool, if it's designed to cut bass strings it's reasonable to expect it to be capable!
 15.
I found something...it's all good...thanks bremen...
I wouldn't recommend the tool you linked to, which is designed to cut thick copper/plastic cables. Stainless steel is a different thing altogether. You can probably get something for a lot less than 20 quid from B&Q, why not take an old string down to the shop and try before you buy!
 16.
Hey, attempting to restring my bass for the first time, but got a question.. What should I use to cut the strings with? I've got wire cutters, but they don't make an impact against the string. Stupid question I know, but that's just 'cus i'm stupid , thanks for any help..,
Heavy-duty wire cutters!
 17. Apostate! ;-) edit: oops, posted this before getting to the end of the thread. Looks like you're sticking with the One True Path after all.

Two, eight or thirty two ohms, that's your choice.

 21.
Perhaps I'm being silly, but one of the knobs on my bass is called volume, and its right there just below my right hand. Alternatively just pull the strings harder.
Perhaps I'm being silly too, but maybe the guitarists could play a little softer while you're soloing?

 25.
I have had my old Precision bass lying idle for the past few years after a 'accident' in Ripon North yorkshire (i'm sure one day it'll be one of those rock n roll hall of fame moments). Anyhoo to cut a long story short after not being able to put Artissans lovely lovely basses down at YBB i've decided i need to play one again. So over a long time im going to slowly build up my project. BUT this may be a no go when i get a pro to check out the damage and see how bad/how much its going to be to repair if neede. (Crack from the neck plate area into to the body just below the top horn area). So if it is clear for take off i am going to get it sprayed black - 3 ply BWB scratch plate - maple neck- chrome hardware. Think i may put a cheeky bridge gaurd on it for pure asthetic reasons if i can play with it on. It has a J PUP and that is where i play. So advise/tips/rule/bass fas paux i should look out for? Would the purists be outraged if i stuck a 70's neck plate and a 60's (just guessing) bridge on the same guitar? and can you advise me on good/bad choices for - Neck Neck plate Machine heads Scratchplate Bridge P PUP J PUP Bridge cover Pots Knobs Nut and anything else i've not thought about. sorry if it all sounds a bit amatuer....that's coz i am! good day.
Warmoth necks are very stable, a bit heavy and fat (from front to back) but bombproof according to reports. I have three and they aren't going anywhere. Neck plates are much of a muchness. I'm told that there should always be a cushion between neckplate and body but have never been able to find one to buy separately from the plate. Anyone? I have a new set of Gotoh machine heads if you'd like them . Cheapest scratchplate I've found was a tortoiseshell from Thomann, fits a US Precision perfectly and looks good. You can also get Fender gold anodised pickguards from various sellers on Ebay that look fantastic (and don't need sheilding, bonus!) but one or two of the screwholes don't line up with the holes in modern Precision bodies Gotoh make a nice beefed-up version of the traditional bent-tin Fender bridge. Pups - huge choice here, droogie! I use Seymour Duncans. If I'd been a Basschatter when I built my P I'd probably have gone for Wizards. No-one here has a bad word to say about the Wizard Thumper. www.thomann.de/gb are good for pots and nuts. I haven't used www.axesrus.com but they get a good press here. I'd expect the nut to come with the neck...? good luck, happy building and let's see it when it's done!
