1. A big plus one for OBBM from me. Great service.
2. I can't stop looking at it. I am on holiday next week so it will be with me the week after. These have been the longest six months of my life.
3. Couldn't agree more. My reading was functional at best but I still got tremendous value from it. I have been without my bass for several months while it is being rebuilt by Paul from Wal and I have have taken the opportunity to work on reading and transcriptions. I am nowhere near being a decent sight reader yet but am light years better than I was just a few months ago.
4. True to his word Paul has just send me a photo of the completed bass. IMG_7933 by John Robertson, on Flickr
5. Agreed. The bass playing and tone sounded epic during the intro then the inevitable slap kicked in.
6. Could you provide a few more details please such as age, assessment of condition etc? Thanks.
7.
Triggers broom lol
You are not the first person to point that out to me. As well as the new body I am also having the machine heads changed for lightweight M4S models, straplocks fitted and new single piece string tree. All in black. Paul is also doing some fretwork and servicing the electronics. Original parts reused will be the neck, pickups and preamp. Oh and the neck backplate. All the mojo and magic are in those pickups. I got an email from Paul last night telling me he was assembling the bass yesterday and it will be finished by the end of this week. He will keep it for a further week to allow it to settle for the final setup. His attention to detail and communication have been outstanding and I can't wait to have the bass back in my hands again.
8. I was worried as the OP stated the bass had fretbuzz even on open strings which was suggestive of a setup issue beyond low action. For the record I also play with an extremely light touch and a low action.
9. Tempted. Birthday soon too.
10. That worries me. Given that these are effectively custom instruments shipping them with a poor setup is hard to understand.
11. Lovely and a mirror image of my soon to be restored Wal. Owned by me since new in 1988. It was originally black poly and I foolishly removed the finish back in 1991 making a mess of the body in the process. After much discussion with Paul on options I decided to have a new body built and have gone for birdseye maple facings as I think they will make a great contrast with the original black poly neck. I love the idea of having a bass which is a mix of original era built by Ian and new era build by Paul. 12. I keep looking at this in the hope it is sold. I don't need it but I want it.
13. I'm already married to the hottie of my dreams so will go for the gig option.
14. I just received an email update from Dingall as a follow up to a question I asked. Here is the relevant part: "Good news. Sheldon has approved a left hand design for the NG2 and Combustion. We are waiting for a prototype. We have no set date for the release but it's in the works." I will buy one of these the very minute it is available. John
15. Only you can decide. I suspect that the fact you feel you have to ask the question shows you really don't want to do it. Remember that every gig, every song, every single note is a fun learning challenge if that is the way you choose to approach it.
16. Thanks Rob. Pass my regards on to Paul and the ever helpful Philip while you are there.
17. The replacement body for my 1988 MK1 is almost ready. It was originally black poly and I will get around to sharing the full story soon. 18. A massive thank you from me for the great work and generous share.
19. Sorry I just looked at Louise's website and see that she isn't currently taking on new pupils. Danusia Zaremba would be an excellent alternative. You will find her on FB etc by googling. Easy to find as her name is unique.
20. Louise Rutkowski is Glasgow based. http://www.louiserutkowski.org.uk/
21. Hello right back at you from Glasgow-ish.
22. I am sitting watching the countdown for Glasgow tickets.
