2. Bass central in the states have them up for sale, and gear4music are advertising a delivery time of April. Looking forward to this pedal.
3.
oh year - there is the SPECIAL which has the neck pickup but only 1 output, and there is a cheaper still version too with just the P pickup. The neck is slimmer too. And a Japan only model with a piezo as the P pickup. Never seen one in the flesh.
The one with the Piezo also had the woofer pickup, it's under the scratch plate. It was called the custom. Also had the cool neck joint
4. That's a great price mate. And and really nice sounding pre, i remember when i had my own.
5.
Hi , I got one. He has a very special thing going on... They are devastatingly well made. Probably some of the very best I have seen.... I do agree that there's a Celinder Vibe. The sound is quite "vintage" to my ears but in the end those words are soooooo subjective .. i hate to use them. Tom Stenback told me the Pickups are very close to 60's position. As far as I know there's a pre amp being designed and will be offered as option in future... Tom also came up with a tuning thing , which is a round of metal being screwed inside the cavity ...I would guess about a 100 gram. To "tune the bass" ... its hard to explain as i was skeptical when first hearing about it but without it my bass is basically dead..... the tuning weight makes it more "bouncy" and "alive" ... it does work !!!!! ... They are very sweet people and offer top quality service ... Tom is a very busy man and a bit "on and off" but his wife Johanna is very responsive on Facebook and always keeping things on top of it! All in all they are mega top jazz style instruments , not cheap but that's to be expected with somebody making 20 to 25 basses per year ... i wouldn't hesitate in a sec... As some of you know (or not lol) I'm now a dealer / distributor in Brussels Belgium , understand i DO NOT distribute or "work" with the Stenback Family ... I just think they are great basses supported by great people .. and overall we are only stronger as a group ! cheers
I have to agree with Pierre. They are great basses, i've played a few and they had a very nice feel and tone. Also have met Tom himself a few times and he really knows his stuff and is passionate about what he does.
6. The mesa does not have a valve in the preamp. Its solid state.
7. A decent amp repair guy should be able to asses the problem, and let you know whats what.
8. Great basses. Got to play one of there P basses and really rated it.
9. If its a DI box unplug from the DI first then you bass. You should not get any pop.
10. Phil Jones C4, is a nice sounding and very small cab
11.
Honestly, I've seen this at loads of gigs. The kick drum is very scooped, leaving plenty of room for bass guitar, but for whatever reason, you still can't hear the bass guitar.
Metal bass players still(not all but a fair few) keep scooping the mids out, so there is not a great deal to fill that gap and there tone just disappears with the drums and guitars.
12. I've been lucky enough to have had a Pearce, Ampeg BSP and spent plenty of time on the Suncoast. The Suncoast is really a monster pedal, the clean tones you can get from it are very nice, backing off the treble with a slight bass boost and mid of your choice can result in some very pleasing fat clean tones. There is enough bite from the treble control to get some awesome slap tones. The overdrive section on the Suncoast is a real monster, like Ant i would have liked the ability to sweep the mid range but the frequency selected is about where i would have it, so the harmonics in the note just pop out and you have that fantastic bite and grind in the mid while maintaining a firm structure to your tone with the clean channel. It does to the insane(but usable) very very well and its a tone i really like, but it also does mild break fantastically well when used in the OD1 setting.
13. Just saw you want to avoid digital. Sorry about that. SWR 750X
14. The new Fender Rumble's are ok. The drive is rather nice, and the price is not to bad.
15. Have a bump Dan for a great pre, such a versatile drive section. Dont let the Sheehan link put you off it really does many tones. I own one myself. But i do have my eyes on another pre, but i think you already know that
16. It's not just an overdrive machine. The Pearce/this pedal have a very nice clean tone.
17. At last it is being made. http://www.suncoastanalog.com/preamp_pedals.htm Not that cheap, but to find a Pearce BC1 in good condition is getting rather hard these days. This also has the ability to switch between the regular Pearce drive and what essentially is the 'Billy Sheehan' mod, which on a Pearce you can't do, so a big bonus IMO. I've owned a BC1 and really, really liked it, and would love to have another but I feel taking a piece gear that rare and old out gigging a lot could lead to some issues. Now a new pedal format just seems to work better for me, I could pop it on a small pedal board and travel smaller and lighter(no need for a rack). This pedal could be what a lot of bass players are looking for to get that tone, without having to wait for a Pearce to turn up. GAS has arrived..
18. gain, freq, q, blend, volume This would be perfect for me. I've always liked the sound of the hyperdrive. I really like driving the midds on bass
19. Its on my phone:( Just below Trivium. I cant see that getting played any time soon. I'm not that bothered though. BUT i would be nice to have been asked before hand, as i have no need for this band.
20.
I didn't watch Metallica on purpose because someone sent me a photograph taken fairly recently of James Hetfield proudly standing next to the carcass of a large grizzly bear he had just murdered for sport. For anyone who doubts that this whole " spirit of Glastonbury" and "ethical festival" ethos is complete and utter bullshit , the fact that Michael Eavis and co are quite willing to endorse and handsomely reward such individuals surely incontrovertible proof to the contrary. Glastonbury might as well be being run by McDonalds or Ted Nugent . That makes me feel quite ambivalent , in so much as I would probably hate Glastonbury even more if it did in fact embrace and epitomize those hippy ideals that it was supposedly founded on, but at the same time, it is quite galling to have to endure the kind of " Glastonbury fascism" that we all subjected to nowadays, especially by the BBC ( because they have paid a lot of money to get the rights to broadcast it) . It has become received wisdom that Glasto is the zenith of every music lover's year, that to play Glastonbury is surely the peak of any musician's career and that the whole thing is such an amazing experience, really something very special. . Suggest any otherwise and you will be considered eccentric, at best, but the reality is that festivals are very seldom the best environment in which to see any band play, and the spurious idea that such gatherings foster a spirit of brotherhood or bon ami amongst those who attend is one which gullible people find very appealing but in fact has no basis in reality.
If thats the picture doing the rounds on social media i dont believe it to be James Hetfield. James has tattoos on his neck, arms and knuckles and none of these were in the guy on the picture I saw.
21. Another vote for the Diamond. Its very musical IMO
22. I had a standard 5 in white for a few years. I loved it, great neck and so much tone. My one had the internal midd pot put on the front to make it even more versatile. It was the bass i wished i had never sold, it looked so good in all white. ambient; The pickups and pre are bartolini , i think the pre was the TCT circuit.
23. A huge part of billy,s tone(apart from his hands and attitude bassse) is the Pearce BC-1 pre amp. These things are amazing. You can get close to the tone with his EBS pedal but it's not quite there. But Billy is using one on the Winery Dog's tour to keep the rig smaller(keep touring costs of a small band down)
24. Can anyone recomend a good set of strings for one of these? cheers
