  1. just split the track (press "S") for the portion you want to zoom in on (or pan left/right etc), then right click on that split portion and select "item properties", at the bottom of the new box screen select "Take Fx"and that takes you into the plugins folder. When you select whatever effects you want, they will only work in that split part of the track you wanted to zoom in.
  2. so I initially used 9 tracks to record the audio, ie.kick, snare, 3 toms, overhead, bass, guitar and vocal, mixed it as best (and TBH quick) as I could, then rendered it to a master audio track. I opened up a new project in Reaper and used that as the master audio, followed by the 3 different camera tracks, so for the actual video editing, just 4 tracks. When I placed each camera file into reaper, the first thing i do is to trim the video to a second before the song starts and about 5 seconds after it finishes. I'm not quite sure why you needed to load 5 cameras if 3 were virtual, could you not have just used the 2 real cameras and zoomed in to taste as you went along the timeline? Looking forward to seeing the results!
  3. Thanks to you good folks on this forum I learnt that not only is Reaper a great DAW, it even does "basic" Video editing. For my needs, I found it more than adequate, with 3 cameras, zooming, cut and pasting and best of all, the syncing between the 3 videos and the master audio an absolute breeze as all files are predominately shown as audio files first. There's a whole load of other utilities in it that I haven't even begun to explore yet. So I'd say it was more than "basic" and at £60 is an absolute steal Below an example of what I mean, recorded into reaper, mixed and then video added, again all in the same DAW on a 2007 4 GB iMac running El Capitan. Not the fastest machine by any stretch of the imagination! Handled it all ok, a little slow but entirely do-able. Great for quick Facebook uploads.
  4. yeah and he had coloured contact lenses, first time i'd seen them, he looked terrifying and bored at the same time..
  5. someone's coughed up 3.5K for this, hope they don't get fleeced..
  6. Condolences to you and your family Dan.
  7. yeah, i guess so. I'd probably get a midi keyboard and an ipad, but obvs more money
  8. I've looked at reviews and they say the built- in sounds aren't very good, I believe there are better options out there.
  9. same here, running a £50 pc (off gumtree) with RAM of 8GB, windows 10 and god-knows what else and it works fine for my needs, 3 or 4 cameras at 1080 24fps. Yeah the render takes a while, but I go and make a cup of tea.
  10. Had a go at editing some video clips in Reaper and I was really quite impressed. I could do multicam timelines, zoom in and out, and it has some nice transitions between frames. For £60 along with a superb DAW, it's a no-brainer.
  11. always thought this was a great live performance, and the bloke went on to sing for Jefferson Starship. Apparently there's been some videos from Vocal Coaches who use this as a template for control (or something)..
  12. Same here! Such an amazing bit of kit. It even does zoom ins and transitions, unbelievable..
  13. like that 83 Boss SD-1
  14. Never managed to get that work, would love to though, that’s the thing that’s the biggest headache for me atm
  15. tried it as well and it loads a lot quicker, however the zoom in/out and pan functions aren't nearly as intuitive or quick as resolve so it's a no from me (for now), but thanks for the heads up, I'll certainly play around with it!
  16. Another fanboi of DaVinci Resolve. It is a bit of a learning curve, but, once you get to grips with the basics it's a brilliant bit of kit and the free version is better than a lot of paid versions of other editors
  17. Behringer wing? https://www.thomann.de/gb/behringer_wing.htm#bewertung
  18. Garageband isn't a video editor. As far as I can tell you can only load a video and then add sound to it (from garageband). You can't edit the actual video, ie cut scenes, add transitions, have multiple camera timelines etc. For that you need a dedicated video editing program like adobe premiere pro, Final cut or, as I use, Da Vinci Resolve (which is free). The advantage of Da Vinci Resolve as well as being free is that it also has it's own built in DAW called Fairlight should you wish to use it, it even lets you load in your own VST plug-ins. It's head and shoulders the best free video editor out there and I've tried loads. Personally, I do my audio capture with Garageband, mix the audio in Reaper and then transfer to Da Vinci Resolve, it sounds a hassle but it really isn't, everything gets saved on a usb stick anyway and it's just a question of loading from there in each program.
  19. I know everyone will recommend what they're currently using (and why not?) if it's good, so I can also recommend alongside the focusrite gear, the Audient iD4, the pre amps sound terrific and the DI line in for guitar and bass is amazing https://studiocare.com/products/audient-id4-2-in-2-out-high-performance-usb-interface-with-scroll-control?variant=31460406460462&currency=GBP&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=google+shopping&gclid=CjwKCAjwz6_8BRBkEiwA3p02Vf1pYOZdPsDffsC23BWH1eRB_RCwrJR9ut9ZadVL6_uBsebUZtuLpxoCYhwQAvD_BwE
  20. any idea of what (roughly) settings I should be looking at for the compression on the kick and bass? Thanks for the input.
  21. Thanks to everyone on here for the overwhelming positive feedback and advice regarding the "basics" of achieving a half decent mix. I've learnt a lot in just a week of messages and help online and it just goes to show what a great community we have going here. This was from wednesdays rehearsal, into garageband, mixed on reaper, taking on board all the pointers coming from you guys.
  22. oh boy, whole new can of worms! Just go and get a Focusrite 2i2 and be done with it! pretty much guarantee that will be the vast majority consensus https://focusrite.com/en/usb-audio-interface/scarlett/scarlett-2i2
  23. noted, thanks, I think its in stereo? Panned drums at least.. Edit, the drums weren't panned! Thanks for the heads up!
  24. Hope it's ok to ask for more mix/mastering wisdom on last nights rehearsal attempt at this Queen number? As per previous advice, I've attempted to match the bass to kick, slightly increased guitar volume during solo (about 1.5dB), panned toms a little to left and overhead to right. Added a little reverb to snare and vocals. Put an analog compressor in front of the bass. Each Drum track also had some 2gether Audio RICH treatment as per factory presets (Kick, snare and toms). I left the overhead alone. There's a few b@lls ups in the actual playing and it was our singers first attempt at giving this a go, but again, it's just for my educational benefit in getting to grips with this mixing malarky. All advice (good & bad) taken on the chin..thanks!
