1.
(Still a little confused as to why you're are running out of XLR inputs though... 4 vocals, bass, guitar and mandolin so far or have I missed something?)
Vox Vox Vox Vox Guitar Acoustic Kick Overhead Bass Mando
2. The mandolin goes into a line in now and it's fine. Might surrender my bass channel and use a line in if that works ok
3. nothing in the last free channel at all, trying to do this simple and faffless, will change the desk before I start lugging a mini mixer, suppose I'm just trying to find out how to make a line input work with a mic, or as I said would the guitar give me enough usable signal ?
4. Mackie 12 channel desk, but it's not. 8 XLR mic inputs and 9/10 and 11/12 are stereo line ins. Due to a line up change we now have 4 vocalists instead of 2, which i great as I now don't have to do every harmony so don't have to compromise the odd bass line. But we're running out of channels, we already use one line in for the mandolin and that's great but there's not enough level from a vocal mic. If I mic the guitarist up as usual will the guitar give enough signal to be useful if I use one of the line in channels ? or would this help ? 5. Feel for you Modman, it's a lousy situation. The reality is though that it doesn't happen that often with basic confirmations/phone calls so try and let it go and concentrate on the next gig. You can usually tell when something goes horribly wrong if it's just a genuine balls up (we all make them) or it's complete lack of professionalism. Then you can make a choice to go back to the gig or not. Sounds like yours was heading for disaster if there are 2 diaries running at the gig rather then a genuine balls up though.
6. Did a traditionally heavy rock pub, which we aren't. We did well in the end but had to work really hard at it.
7. More pubs, we only do 2 year at any particular venue.
8. If this is outdoor DorsetBlue a PA that most of the regularly gigging bands on here use won't even touch the sides,
9. Well things have much improved this morning. Lots of rattly, scratchy, hissy sounds back in my life.
10.
I think I suffer from undercharging for our band. Typical Pub gig is £180 to £200 £250 for Parties £? for weddings as the two we have booked have both just split up!! Are we about right ? I'm a musician and don't like talking money for my art maaaan!
I'm on the other side of the Pennines, though we are stealing one of your gigs in Halifax a week on Saturday and I think your about right with room to move up a bit if you know what I mean. 11. Thank you all for the advice and the anecdotes, including the horror stories. Banged the boots stuff in earlier and have just done it again, hubble bubble toil and trouble going on in me ears for a bit but have to say a marked improvement already. Will crack on with it over the next few days as I think it may do the trick on it's own. Even if it does I'm still going to do the olive oil for 5 days and go for my appointment just to have a professional peer into my ears, just in case.
12. I've just bought the Boots one mentioned above. Cover me, I'm going in
13.
What kind of earplugs are you using?
Alpine Musicsafe Pro
14.
Five weeks !!! Maybe get some medical grade olive oil and try that. You don't need to see a doctor for an ear syringe, that's usually the practice nurse.
Rang my GP and they said ring the local do it all clinic, they asked a few questions then booked me in to have them syringed, but it was 5 weeks to the first appointment. Olive oil in ears twice a day for 5 days beforehand. May start the ear drops now and see if that helps.
15. Do the jack socket and piezo connect to the preamp by mini jacks ? If so have you checked these are in properly ? You can generally get to these through the sound hole.
16. I know the answer is seek professional medical advice and I am , but my appointment is 5 weeks away so I thought I'd ask the BC collective of all knowledge worth knowing. I'm hoping I just need them syringing but want a nurse/doc to confirm that so I'm not going down the DIY routes I've seen on't web . I use earplugs for rehearsals but the other night It just felt like I had my hands over my ears and they felt under pressure. At the last gig I thought the PA was lacking top end (I do the sound), when I held my nose and blew like you do on a plane to sort the pressure in your ears the top end came back, then dissappeared again when I stopped. Anyone experienced this ? Will I die?
17. Your in a great band with great people and a great diary. I know how much better it could be if he was up to the job but you've pretty much got what most semi pro bands are striving for. I'd just go with it. But I totally get why you needed to post this.
18. He needs to write keys, opening chords etc. on his lyric sheets. Getting his phone out at the gig is defo a no no,
19. Great heads up. See some of you at The Cavern ?
20. Sounds ace. Dead excited for you Dom. Would love to see your set list cos' we have a country rock twist as well. Let us all know how it pans out.
21. Do those of you who keep a bit in reserve and then turn up have someone out front riding the desk ? Can't see it working for those of us in set and forget mix situations.
22. Just stripped a dead Cheetah electro acoustic bass (neck coming away) so have this is anyone want's it for a project. Not arsed about any money for it just pm me your address and I'll chuck it in the post. Always played like a bat but sounded surprisingly good. It all worked last time I tried it and it's just small jacks that plug into the preamp so shouldn't be hard to fit. I'll never use it but don't want to chuck it if someone can make use of it. Les
23.
Depends how many channels you use and depends on how many bands get to use it..?? Most consistent users have a system and would use the same channels anyway..?
9 channels and no one but us. same every night but I still need them labelled.
