Why can't we have remote control amps, which would work like a home hi-fi/tv, to adjust the tone/graphic ? So... a poll.... how dumb is this idea?
It's not a dumb idea but I believe in getting your sound right first time and not touching your amp again until the end of the gig. Makes the soundman's job easier. But for all the twiddlers and fiddlers out there, I think it could work quite well, and if you'd like different amp settings on different songs, it would be very useful. How many different bass sounds do you want from one amp though?

Nothing to add to that. Also, I was not aware of that older meaning. Thanks for that. Very interesting!

I was born and raised in London, and I've played around a bit. There are probably not more than 50 good bass players here. Do you want to join/form an originals band or do you want to get some good session work? If it's session work you're after, it's not about how good you are. It's about who you've already worked with. Get that first profile gig and the rest will fall into place. I'm sure there will be people you know in Leeds who know people in London to help you get in there. If you want to do the originals thing, you could start that anywhere. In some ways it would be easier to build up a large following outside of London.
Here's what one said after I sent them the youtube of MarloweDK playing it "Weird, that's not how I "heard" it, just goes to show. In fact while it's a nice bumbling along bassline, it doesn't really drive the track, ... sounds to me like it's keys and guitar that drive it along." I guess they are not bassplayers I just just hope it goes down really well on stage
Oh dear. Noone in my band makes stupid comments like that. Tell them to do the song without you and see how well it goes down.

Fine. I'll do it. Can the prize be a refund of the price of the book?

How about Don't Stop The Music - Yarborough & Peoples?
dunlop wah seems to be the way to go then - bit of a bugger cos they're pretty expensive.
Not a fan of the old Dunlop Bass Wahs. Have not heard the 105Q so can't comment on it. The original ones were sh*te. I still have one lying around somewhere. The two wahs I'd recommend are the EBS WahOne (the smoothest bass wah there is) and the Snarlin' Dogs Bootzilla Wah (the rawest bass wah out there). The Bootzilla has built-in fuzz too. They both sound bassy and give you that wah sound - and they're both very tweakable too. As expensive as the Dunlop though - if not more!

Like it. The only thing I'd change is to take out one of the more extravagant fills that was somewhere in the middle.
used Warwick Corvette/Streamer.
Agreed. A secondhand 5-string Corvette would do the job very well. And if you ever decide to become a slap/pop fiend, you wouldn't need to change bass. Warwicks are great for funk or metal.

Played a 3-hour gig two nights running - on the third day I couldn't move my wrists. Need my wrists straight otherwise they get totally f***ed. Can't have it too low or too high. I have it angled up too.

I know I'm not really a Nobel prize-winning physicist or anything but doesn't electricity in the strings = fried bass player?
the bass is in customs now ... and my tax is a whooping $600!!! i am still begging them to lower it since it is nowhere near brand new and i wont be selling it... i will really need the 100 pounds for taxes after all... from experience, i they usually dont lower it that much. but still, it is up to you... if you guys plan to let it go to charity, then i suggest Gman not send me the 100 pounds (paypal will just be very happy to take % off it as it goes around)
Just keep the £100! You'll be needing it from the sound of things!
Crap list.

Say what you see he he!
Nothing to add really. Not only is it a crap list, it's utterly pointless too. Now, a list of 10 songs which changed bass playing forever, with reasoned discussion from Magazine hacks, famous players and readers alike + transcriptions + a free CD, that'd be something worth doing, buying and hanging onto.

A second donor vote in favour of donating the surplus £100 to a Philippines-based charity.

I used to set off the occasional gaydar when I was about 14-15 but not as an adult. I don't know what this says about society as a whole or me in particular.

Are you or yr band political?
The Funk replied to Mr Shiny Cadillackness's topic in General Discussion
We have a couple of political songs. Nothing wrong with it. It doesn't get in the way. They're such funky tunes that noone shows any sings of being annoyed at having politics rammed down their throats. As for reconciling your socio-political beliefs with the entirely capitalist music industry, there are different approaches to finding a compromise which you find morally acceptable. At one point Peter Green asked John McVie and Mick Fleetwood if the band could just keep whatever they needed to live off and give all the profit to charity. McVie was such a drunk at the time that he agreed. Fleetwood flipped at the idea. -
Very good gig on Saturday. Owners/management/staff at the venue were unhelpful and unprofessional as always. PA almost crapped out at the beginning of the set. We stopped, dismantled it, put it back together and then played two excellent 80-minute sets. At one point the singer called for a duel between me and the keyboard player. I thought I had my arse handed to me on a plate but I won the popular vote somehow. Some people, eh? Later the keyboard player and guitarist traded a few licks and then the drummer and I had a go too. It was a lot of fun. There was great singing, cool songs, great interplay, some good dynamics in tunes for once, excellent audience participation, cool guest musicians. There was everything really.

Thanks for that. I've only just managed to pick my jaw up off the floor. -
It seems like most people in this thread agree that there's a time and a place for slap bass - noone's trying to force anyone else to stop and noone's trying to force people who don't like it to listen to it.
