  1. Between building dolls houses (literally the biggest dolls house I’ve ever encountered (5ftx4ft) Needs a little more refinement on the board. But my back and Eyes are saying “enough”. Cant find my glasses, or nut files. So I’m sitting down.
  2. Yeah - another thread (think it was on FB) on the mk2 EB being like the Bunny Brunel model led to me being “corrected” by about 10 people who told me about Bunny Brunel playing Carvin and ESP signature models. When I showed pictures of @Basvarken’s book and Kyle Eastwood playing a Gibson BB - there was no “ah, I stand corrected” or anything…I suspect it’s what life on that American Bass forum is like 😂
  3. I taught a neighbour “You Can Call Me Al” the other day - he’s a guitarist depping on bass for an events band. Bit brave…especially the solo… We ended up talking for a bit and I rattled off about 4 songs (basslines) from Graceland - really was a formative album for my playing. I’ve never covered any of them. Did hear a band murder YCCMA at a wedding last year - horrific.
  4. Fingers crossed - my current lot are just right. I think guitarist put it right “it’s like winning the band lottery”. All similar ability, all learn quickly and happy to leave each other to play our way. Open to suggestions on parts… So far, so good. The last band was me writing songs with a clear idea of what I wanted (not always what the song needed), drummer wanted more bass playing at all times, singer who made up new lyrics every time we played a song and would tell everyone how to play “y’know more wakka wakka, play simpler but with more parts, like faster but clearer…” and a guitarist whose catchphrase was “I’m staying out of it” No wonder it was a car crash.
  5. Then…sand/scrape. Make a “putty” from wood glue and rosewood sawdust… Fill in any tear out/small gaps. 18/24hrs until strings and nut…
  6. So. Todays step 1… Before /after. Been present for years that - dirt in it etc. visible to the eye, but invisible to the hand. Thank god 🙄
  7. Might give them a shot then. Not sure why I’m worried. My Fretless playing is so bad I could use rubber bands and nobody would know any different
  8. Yeah - have got some roto flats (been on about 5 basses now…) what are the adagios like tension etc…
  9. As a point @Geek99 tune in tomorrow for the next phase of redevelopment…all shall become clear…
  10. It honestly sounded lovely this morning…I suspect it will be a quirky thing in the corner of the mancave. Seeing how it’s so blummin ugly…I debated some flamenco tap plates…😂
  11. Aye. I had a few mates over - some beers and Baileys went missing too. Captain Vino cares not for flavour - just volume. Luckily, his missions are few and far between these days.
  12. This was Trivento Malbec…it was on offer. So I bought 2. Didn’t realise I could save bottle 2 for the next evening…🥴
  13. Had this bass on my watch list for weeks… Encore acoustic 1970’s/early 80’s. Eko made (Italian) also seen as E-Ros and Harmony/Rondo I loved the plain look (turns out that it’s missing some rosette. Moreover, I loved it’s absolutely mad headstock shape. Looks like it’s been nicked off a Stanley Clarke something or other… Anyhow, I was aware it was tatty. I did not bid. But Captain Vino did put in a ridiculous low offer while watching the Boxing last Saturday. imagine my horror as I awoke from my stupor to a “pay now” notification. it’s arrived. Rough is being polite - the frets were worn to within an inch of their life. The headstock logo looked like it was a poorly applied decal on the photos. It was. But under about .5mm of lacquer. It was about 10mm over to the bass side. That’s craftsmanship. split from a tuner and a bit of delaminated skunk stripe. Wicked a load of glue in and clamped for 18 hours. Then ripped the frets out. As seen on a previous thread…I scored under and around the frets - then lifted out with a 1” chisel. Very little tear out. Not bad - I wasn’t quite “Jaco with a butter knife” - but I’ve done a few different methods now and this works for me. Thought i had way more rosewood in my draw than I actually did…should’ve checked before starting. Anyhow - just enough. I have a shot glass filled with the sawdust - ready for tomorrow. Some spit, polish and sanding tomorrow 🥳
  14. It was more of a heads up - if they’d have shipped it…I would’ve been more foolish 😉
  15. Well the ripper definitely has some Ric leaning sound wise… im on a buying ban…4 basses and 1 guitar this month. Although one of the basses was a misjudged eBay gamble.
  16. Well…my most expensive recent purchase. And my cheapest. Guess which one will be for rough gigs…
  17. https://www.cashconverters.co.uk/shop/music-tv--video/musical-instruments/guitars--string-instruments/bass-guitar/054400226091? they won’t ship… Colchester £270 seems very fair if they’d ship - Id buy it
  18. I just think they need a bit of a think…backwards as it sounds Imagine a Gibson Les Paul Signature bass reissue (basically a posh Jack Casady) - they’d sell a good few of those, even if they were touching £2000 (they’d probably end up £4000 🙄) A Gibson version of the reissued “reverse” Thunderbird - like the Epiphone Grabber/Ripper/G3 1 but actually like the old ones; not the feeble “nearly” versions of 2009/10. The EB4 mosrite looking thing was a lovely bass, but they changed after a year, then turned into a pseudo Tobias looking thing and then gone… just a mad company.
  19. It is mad though, the call for a “reissue” Thunderbird was rife on the forums a few years ago… They listen… Poor sales/discontinued quickly both fender and Gibson are drowning in debt with shareholders to keep happy. ”we’re not richer yet, what are you doing to fix it?” ”well, here’s the all new heritage pure retro range - even more accurate to the inconsistent ones we made in the golden era of 1950-1965!” ”good, you can keep your jobs for now…”
  20. Saw the Tele Basses today. Hot Dawg!!! couldn’t have a muck around as I was in getting some guitar strings for a recording thing. Properly lovely things though.
