1. I still think the best one I ever played was the Charvel 3b, which was pretty thunderous - and should be relatively easy to find, if you don't mind the pointy headstock.
2. Cheers guys, much appreciated
3. Some examples: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/209937-pjs-am-i-missing-something/page__view__findpost__p__2129281__hl__pj__fromsearch__1 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/210027-the-double-p-pickup-bass-thread/page__view__findpost__p__2120127__hl__pj__fromsearch__1 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/197792-i-wanna-pj-bass/page__view__findpost__p__1957484__hl__pj__fromsearch__1 I spy you had an old Fender PJ thread too, so it's obviously something you've been thinking about
4. I'd recommend a Kingbass. Sorry, I couldn't help it We've had a few PJ threads, and I think one theme is common - they're a combination which doesn't often work. Might be worth searching one out and seeing what recommendations were made.
5. Stance, I've flagged this with the Admins to review - they should get back to you shortly.
6.
Ghee whizz, those ones sound like they are the cream of the crop.
You guys are really milking this pun
7.
You could go all out and get a Bongo. It will blow your mind.
Having recently added a Bongo to the collection, I'll second that - if you can stomach the looks, of course!
8. I learnt on an Encore P-bass, traditional black with white scratch plate. I bought in from a little music shop in Piece Hall, Halifax. It was made out of some form of exotic matter, more dense than normal matter. I think the case alone was the on the verge of collapsing behind an event horizon, and the combination was difficult to lug about as a young lad! I sold it on to a friend. Good to learn on, but complete toss as an instrument - I used the proceeds to buy a much lighter Aria Pro II Magma, which looked a lot more rock and roll! Bright red, maple fretboard and a vaguely pointy headstock, lovely bass!
9. I had an old MTD Kingston Heir and absolutely loved it. Great construction, super neck, and some lovely tones - I only moved it on as I simply couldn't make five strings work for me (a mistake I keep repeating).

11. We thought it about time to put a demo together, given the line-up changes over time. So, for the investment of a few hours this weekend, we crafted the below - nothing spectacular, just some good old fashioned rock. Nothing complicated, just some good energy and some good fun. Couple of bloopers I can spot, bass is buried so you only get a sniff ofa single fill (I don't know why I bother!), but pretty happy with it overall! 12.
I know someone who left one of these at a gig (not sure if its same model) and did not realize until they drove 3 hours home... they did go back the next day but it was gone! I played it briefly and liked it but like i said not sure if same model was definitely a different finish though
Ouch! That sounds painful, mate! Bump.
13.
Would that be the Drang Gallery in Padstow? Was in there a few weeks back, they had a black one and a red/green one. IMHO the cases looked better that the basses. Wondered [s]who would buy this rubbish [/s]what the market id for this sort of thing, its not a good bass (for £10k anyway) and if there are 125 of four different models it's hardly exclusive collectable art. Strangely though, the day before I saw them I was thinking to myself..if only I could get Banksy to paint my bass I could probably write my own cheque.
I'd always assumed, as when galleries often put such up for sale, that it's another means of formating a donation.
14. 1974 Jazz back up for sale
15.
Went to see Retox last night at Leeds' Brudenell Social Club. They were good (hardcore screamers playing at breakneck speed) but the 2 supports were pretty unusual. First Cattle - a bassist, 2 drummers and a singer. The bass was distorted as hell but sounded immense. Reeling from that, the next up were Zeus - 2 piece Italian bassist and drummer. Again, all sorts of effects and distortions but strangely compelling. Really tight and bloody loud. Who needs a guitarist eh?
You should also check out Castrovalva - their bassist, Ant, is on here somewhere, and they make a big racket. Last seen supporting Turbowolf at Brudenell Social Club http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KhRHurqWql4
16. Welcome in
17.
Wish I had the readies to take this back off your hands. As a previous owner I can attest to it's loveliness
Amen, stunning bass! Was attempting to move on to free up some funds to go for either an H/H or H/S model - I suspect you'll say I'm mad!
18. I'm assuming people are simply skint at the moment, or have never seen one of these before. Now £325.
19. I'll be honest, I barely crank the volume at home. I normally work with my headphones, and then save the volume stuff for the odd occasion or when jamming with friends. I'll admit, my neighbours are now a little elderly, so their hearing has more issues than just my playing - but it's still simply a case of being a little sensitive to what's going on. If they have friends over or are taking a nap outside, it might not be the time to discover if the amp really goes go up to 11!
20.
Mask off your fingerboard. Fine wire wool. Come up shiny new and smooth.
This! ^
21.
If I'd bought it I'd be posting the pics to the Ric Resources site straight off asking how that sort of deterioration in a couple of years could happen and what Ric were going to do about it. Didn't realise the wood was that dark underneath, I thought they'd all look 'mapleglo' without the top coat.
I'm sure they'd treat such posts with all due care and consideration Still catching up on the story, assuming it's this bass, in which case that thread has begun to go the way we might expect - whether the internet can agree if it is a Ric QC issue or not, it's still obviously an issue for the owner, which I think has been rather lost on some! He seems happy with it. I'd be inclined to get the rest of the paint removed, or maybe just have a real novelty bass and let time and nature take their course on the rest of the finish.
22. Can't rehearse, can't do the gig. That's been my experience, and I would be inclined to say that - for all being a nice guy and having some good vox might tick boxes - the inability or unwillingness to rehearse should be a deal-breaker. Still, willing to be proven wrong - but just go into it with your eyes open
23. New guitarist? I thought I kept up to pace with things in the Terrortones, but obviously not!
24.
How long do we give it before a certain poster pops up with yet another account name claiming to have bought one and raving about it?
If you're reading this, Larry, can you start your assault on our characters with a review, thanks?
25. Yup. Had no issues moving from SR4 to SR5, spacing felt fine.
