1.
Mmm, my luthier mate has now suggested he can do a 38mm mahogany body with a 6mm maple cap! Sweet! As far as the electronics are looking, it could be: 3-way pickup selector switch. MM HB - Vol / Tone / Villex / Series/Parallel switch / Coil Tap switch. J SC - Vol / Tone / Villex / Series/Parallel switch.
Built in flanger ?
 2.
Quite simply there aren't any.
I'm stunned - I don't actually think I can add anything constructive to this thread that hasn't already been said, but I just had to register my stuunned state
 3. Overwater do strings up to 36" scale - check out extended scale strings on http://www.overwaterbasses.com/buy-strings-online.htm EDIT: Must admit, I've not have problems find string for my 6ers (although admittedly not Shine's) so would be interested in hearing what the scale length of this one is.
 4. Whatever instrument I happen to be playing at the time. I'm not one of those who can hear a tune in his head (or maybe I am, but only when I have an instrument in front of me to try to interpret the tume). I tend to play an instrument and when something catches my attention I mould it into a piece of music or song.
 5.
I think it's time we all went and listened to some MUSIC instead for a bit...
Way ahead of you, currently listening to a beautiful tune by MG called Family. Really tasteful & tasty playing
 6. Ah it's from absolute music, they do tend to over price I've noticed
 7.
I think, that none of those two are about 'showing off' - they do the very same thing each day - at the rehearsal, gig, or private practice - that's just their thing, and, if lots of people wouldn't appreciate their thing, we wouldn't know about any of these cats to this very day. Dude, I'm so tired of defending this kinda music - is this stuff really so hard to appreciate, or, at least, to tolerate?
@Faithless, I'm confused at who these comments are aimed at, but I have to assume they're aimed at my post because I used the phrase "showing off" and I'm afraid (if this is the case) you really did, 100%, miss the point of my post. If your comments are indeed aimed at me I repectively suggest you re-read my posts within this thread as I certainly do appreciate this type of playing and this type of musician - I just happen to think that this video is not representitive of these players recorded work. As for the comment "Maybe it's because it was so obvious to me, what they were doing", well I think I'll leave that one well alone and hope it was simply lost in translation. EDIT: Sorry just read my comment again, whilst I do like these guys as musicians and I do like the recorded works of theirs that I have, I do not like this video of them. My intention was to point out that this vid. is not representitive of their recorded works (well not the stuff I have).
 8. Seriously guys, I don't think anyone should take a rehearsal/trade fair/bassday jam to be wholly and 100% representitive of any of these guys actual musical output. They're messing around and showing off, I'm sure we've all done it but usually don't find it recorded and placed on youtube. EDIT: Oh and for the record I hate the vid of MG and Hadrian, but as I have albums by both of them I can state that their albums are nothing like this jam.
 9.
I've heard plenty of jazz piano, guitar and bass players do it, but I must confess, it annoys me a bit. Never heard Steve Harris do it.
I humm along to the Blood Brothers bass line, is this the same thing ?
 10.
I should check out Adam Nitti again, checked him out a few years ago but didn't quite capture my attention then... maybe now I'll dig him a bit more.
Sometimes the pyrotechnics get in the way of his music (his quick fire two handed tapping and amazing fast technique). I don't personally find his playing as melodic as Janek or Tony Grey. He's a little more in yer face - but nevertheless I do like his playing a lot, particularily when playing in a band context. EDIT: Hmm not sure that melodic comment seems right. I'll leave it, but I don't mean he doesn't play melodically, he's an exceptional musician and I tend to listen to his albums a lot. Anyway, you'll either get what I mean or I'll sound like I'm talking garbage (as I dig myself a hole)
 11.
For those of you, who think that you 'ain't no singer', just try singing when playing to some scale, or playing a lil' solo - you may find yourself surprised..
Unfortunately I tried this, the horrid noise coming out of my mouth distracted me from my playing it was that bad (so no surprise for me) Not sure if he's been mentioned, but as this threads brought in a little Tony Grey, some Victor and Matt G, I have to say how much I like Adam Nitti's playing and his compositions. What a fantastic musician.
 12.
George Benson is the man for that (as in scat with soloing) - absolutely brilliant (esp early days) and very musical.
Damn! The exception to my rule. Early George Benson stuff was good
 13. I really need to stop hanging around in the For Sale section. I simply don't have enough money to pay for all the beautiful instruments I've seen lately and this is a real beauty. Good luck with the sale (if it becomes more than a feeler). Just lovely.
 14. Sorry guys, whilst I quite like Victor's singing especially love it on "Bass Tribute", but I really hate the scat stuff that Janek and others do. It's impressive that they can sing the notes they're playing (seemingly in perfect pitch) but so tedious (in my opinion ). Give me a real singer any day EDIT: Actually just thinking of it, I hate scat sung by a "real" singer also - so just stop the scat I say.
 15.
Well I'll no doubt get castigated for saying this (and won't give a toss frankly) but I've yet to see any of these clips from shows, demos, clinics and whatever that convince me that the bass guitar is actually a solo instrument at all. It's not really what is was first intended for. A bit of bass oriented sections of songs are fine (My Generation et al) but whole tunes featuring nothing but bass just don't do it for me (OK I can maybe make a bit of an exception for The Fish but only just). If someone is basically using something like a 6 or 7 or 8 string bass to extend the range up so it can be played like a guitar, then it's a guitar and he's playing a guitar solo (though maybe an octave lower).
Well, this is your opinion and there's no purpose in attempting to convince you to the contrary. But what I would say is, remember the 6 string guitar was not originally an instrument that was mean't to solo, in big bands it was just part of the rhythm section, as for the whole 6/7 or 8 string bass comparison with a guitar I'd tend to disagree. Whilst the frequency of the notes in the higher registers tend towards the guitar range (on such instruments), those playing them rarely play them like a guitarist would. But this is now going off topic. EDIT: But this is just my opinion
 16.
We'll none of us ever agree who's great and who isn't, we all like different stuff and different styles don't we?
It'd be a boring world if we all agreed on everything (apart from if we could all agree that I'm always right ) Anyway back to the subject(s). I like Tony Grey, a very tasteful player and I also like Janek (equally tasteful in his playing). I certainly think the music must be the most important thing. There's room for soloing or whatever as long as it fits in with the rest of the music and I tend to feel that both Tony and Janek are well aware of this when you listen to their compositions.
 17. The big grin says it all Looks great.
 18. I'm one of those guys who thinks there's no limitation to what an instrument should do, whether it's a bass playing chords, soloing or whatever, what does matter to me is does it sound good to my ears and is it therefore enjoyable to listen to. I'm impressed with the technique of both Janek and Hadrien (how can you not be ). Although I tend to feel Janek brings more of a "groove" to a tune, than Hadrien - and this is not a critism, just the way I hear their playing. I also tend to prefer the music of Janek (if we're comparing just the two of them). If I could play like either of them, I'd be a happy, happy man.
 19.

Thanks goodness you can't see me drooling. That is one really nice looking bass.
 20. Ooo, that looks lovely. I have a fretted one of these and they're great 6 ers. Good luck with the wedding and sale.
 21.
I would raise concerns about the shop you tried it in. If lots of people had been playing it then of course an unfinished neck is going to feel sticky if it had not been looked after and cleaned and waxed. You'll be playing on top of everyone else's marmite. All you need to do is wax the neck every now and then. I actually use those Planet Waves fret polishing cloths on my warwick necks. Dab some of the wax on it and polish the neck along the grain. It's the loveliest feel on any neck I've ever tried. It's a trick Martin Peterson showed me with wire wool on a oiled maple body, came up silky and shiny. I also don't understand the lack of contouring either, it's a wonderfully ergonomic body http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=585875
I wasn't trying it in a shop - I owned it It was one of the few 6 string fretlesses that I could find at the time. But I fully suspect the "stickiness" is something that could be sorted but like I said, mine didn't feel good to play anyway, so I suppose I lost interest in trying to solve it. Hence my disclaimer that the OP should try the instrument himself EDIT: Just looked at your link and certainly can see the contour, I'm now wondering if what I had was a different model because the back was just flat. Okay I apologise 100%, just ignore me! I've a crap memory at the best of times but this week's been far worse lately - it appears I had a proline. Don't ask me how I came to the conclusion it was a Corvette, I think I've just reached that certain age. I will now (with embarrasement) leave this thread. But before I do, just to prove (to myself at least) that I owned a couple of Warwicks, here they are http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;#entry731021 ).
 22. I had a six string Corvette. It sounded really really nice, great depth and particularily nice fretless sound, but I really didn't like the feel of the bass, it was just horrible to play. Obviously things may have changed on more recent ones, but mine had no contouring on the back of body which made it feel really unatural and uncomfortable when playing whilst standing and only a little better when seated. I have to totally agree with BigRedX. I thought I was the only one who felt the neck was sticky. I have another unvarnished fretless that feels fantastic to play, the palm slides nicely around (admittedly it's a five string) but the neck on the Corvette felt it needed varnishing or maybe some sort of oil on it, but in it's natural state it just felt sticky (that's the only way to describe it). I wouldn't have minded this alone, due to it's lovely sound, but the uncomfortable feel of the body I felt it wasn't worth keeping as I just didn't like the feel when playing it. But like I said this is very much a personal view on one particular instrument, so as always I'd say go and try one out if you can. EDIT: Edited some semantics and spelling - typical of me
 23. WOW WOW WOW. That is a really beautiful bass. I've been wanting one of these for a while now (and I'll admit I've been lusting after this exact one since seeing it on your vid months ago) but, it's true, timing is everything and I'm mid-way through a new house build with costs escalating . Maybe the family could do without a bathroom and I could get this off you instead. Hmm, I doubt it, in which case unless you'd take payment by instalments I can only offer you a bump. Good luck with the sale.
 24.
If anyone is looking for a free score editor - Musescore is worth a shot. Its pretty good, the site also has free set up tutorials. It comes with playback sounds [ just GM sounds - but none the less useful for hearing your results]
Thanks for posting, I'll definitely check it out.
 25. Oh yes I recognise that one well. It was between that one and a very similar Sei Jazz 5 (at the gallery) that I eventually bought. It's a really lovely bass and was actually the one I intended to buy but there was just something about the one I bought sound-wise that suited me a little more. I believe yours may have been for sale on BC last year (but I could be wrong) check out http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=61546 - I haven't compared the pics precisely on both threads I'll leave that one to you . If it is that one maybe AndyW can help you with further info. EDIT: spelling mistakes
