2.
Inb4 "up your arse"
I'm a renowned tight arse so if I stuck it there I'd never find it again
 3. Now like many others I use my fingers on some songs and pick on others. But where should I stick my pick? I'm terrible for putting stuff in my pockets and losing it. It usually takes me 5 attempts to find my keys BTW I don't sing so I have no mic stand for the use of. * This is not a serious thread *
 4. As in the title, what is the worst bass line you play in a set or have played in a set? The song itself you might quite like, it could be a favourite but the bass line sucks. Currently still only at the stage of practising, my top contender would be U2's Pride (In the name of love). Bog awful. To me it doesn't even seem to fit the song - perhaps that's just me. Has had me considering 'sawing' my fingers of with a pick whilst playing it. EDIT: not mad keen on the song either but there are other songs in the proposed set I don't like but the bass parts are ok.
 5. Very similar to 'purpleblob' - mates at school wanted to start a band, talked about it as two already had guitars so I bought a bass. Hence the band was born. It died pretty damned quick mind I stopped playing for 15 years so the bass came first this time.
 6.
Does your wife know you're a Pete Burns fan, mate?
Pete Burns? Get thee to the opticians my man. And anyhow I've impeccable taste in women, the wife says I have and she's never wrong.
 7.
You mean that the animals don't speak Spanish? What is it then as I was convinced I could understand them.
No,Portuguese. So close. Oh and look, she's back
 8. The more distortion the better I say. Anything that hides my playing is a bonus Despite my limited ability I don't think I've ever felt like that though.
 9. The mids This MAY help, I'm not promising anything though . I took on board a lot of what was said on here about boosting mids and it works for me, especially the low mids. Get a lovely bass growl that cuts through the mix.
 10.
Or rs laing to appear bearing gifts and glad tidings.
11. I'm just waiting for some strange natural phenomena to occur now. Like all the grass turning blue or animals starting to speak Spanish or something equally weird.
 12. With regards the press ads for gigs in my area I suppose it could just be that pubs etc just aren't bothering to inform the newspapers. It is unfortunate that the pub that put on the most live music in my town has now shut, and somewhat ironic as on new year's eve it had a band and was by far and away the busiest place in town. The singer my wife and I know, we've agreed, does tend to lack that go out and get the gigs attitude and somewhat limit's themselve's to a small area. I've just started practising with a band and I think they're wanting to cover a decent sized area. Furthermore the singer is very proactive. For original bands in north devon though I should imagine it's dire. Very few places to play if any. Masses of karaoke nights as well.
 13. I've got the Rumble 350 which I'm aware is out of your price range especially as Fender prices have gone up quite a lot recently. However, they do sound good, very good. I've only used it at practice but it cuts through and I've not had it past 2 1/2. In fact I was told 'bit loud on that last number' the last time. A guy in a guitar shop near me was quite taken aback with how loud the old Rumble 2x10 100w was and really rated it. I'd probably go for a second hand TE though Only reason I got new was where I live it's a right royal pain getting to where people are selling gear which is usually 200 miles away:)
 14. Whilst my lovely wife cooks up these lovely cakes, yum. I am busy practising, whilst you will notice logged on to basschat. Ignore the hair I'm having a chill out day, I've not used any product. Oh and my fretting hand technique no comments please
 15.
The world has gone upside down as I'm in the middle of buying a Warwick ATM.
Those are words I never expected to see on basschat coming from yourself Wayne
 16.
Low end now liberated
We don't want to know when you've been to the loo. In all seriousness though, it does look very, very I'd quite like an instrument with an F on it myself. Oh and I don't mean a Fodera
 17.
Cool mate. I tried to stay away for a bit but I got the shakes and looked a bit pasty so I came back. I lasted a bloody week
You got the shakes so much that you wrote an ad selling the Warwicks. Those trembles can be awful
 18. A singer I know - she has two bands, a full band and is part of an acoustic duo - was saying to my wife the other day that pub gigs are getting difficult to get. Her next gig isn't until April I must say I looked in the local press recently and there seem very few bands being booked and very few places left to play. As an example in the town I live in when I was in my teens there were 9 pubs and 2 clubs. This is now down to 4 pubs and there are always rumours regarding the clubs closing. What's it like where you are? Have you noticed any downturn in available gigs?
 19.
But,I feel it does more of a disservice to the student if all they are taught is licks and shapes and songs(often with Tab)-which,let's be honest,a lot of people do. If a student is into metal, then there is no point comparing everything to Miles Davis, but the notes and the theory behind it don't change. You can adapt how you apply the chord or scale ("Hey...this is the scale used in 'Wishing Well" or whatever.),but there is only one way to spell a major chord or a pentatonic scale. So,like I've said you can adapt to the student stylistically and in it's application, but not really on the actual information.
I think we're probably saying the same thing. The information to be conveyed is the same but presented differently to the student, given a context the student can understand. I actually gave up lessons because the manner in which the lessons were presented weren't teaching me anything. TAB was used, I was given the major scale - which I already knew - to practice in a shape on the fretboard and a couple of walking bass lines but given no context of how they related to the scales or how they were constructed. I needed to know the hows and whys in order to understand what was being taught - that wasn't happening so I jacked them in.
 20. My comment may not be relevant to the thread as such as it was more of a general point rather specific to Jeff Berlin. I know nothing of how he actually teaches and what is reported on forums and through other media is often a world away from what is actually the case. I can only assume he doesn't advocate quick fixes, which is no bad thing.
 21.
I think a lot of people's issues with someone like Jeff Berlin are not because he's famous, or because they don't think he's any good, but that he comes across in many posts as very didactic particularly regarding teaching/learning. He is a fantastic player and his teaching and musical approach no doubt work for some people who will succeed very well thanks to his help. But the most universally successful educators are the ones who realise that different people conceptualise problems in different ways, therefore alternative approaches are required for them to succeed. Jeff may well recognise that in 'real life' but online he does come across as taking a 'my way or the highway' attitude that is demonstrably wrong when applied in other educational arenas.
Totally agree with you.
The thing is,like I said in an earlier post,is that to learn the actual 'rules' of music, there are not many ways to go about it. There are a lot of different ways to apply them, but there aren't many ways to actually learn or teach them. A C major chord always has the same 3 notes. The first ledger lune under the stave(in bass clef) is an E. There aren't that many ways of teaching this. You mention about different people conceptualising problems in different ways-yeah they do,but a lot of these concepts are applicable only after the facts have been learnt.
There's a difference between passing on knowledge and educating/teaching someone. A good teacher will do so much more, and will adopt a variety of options in order to enable a student to understand and learn for themselves. A one size fits all approach (or my way or the highway) is doing a diservice to the student. And anyone adopting it really should consider whether they should be teaching.
 22.
Who knows! A lot of very good music is made without the aid of a drummer or a singer.
You spotted the gapping hole in the question
 23.
Rough? yep,Taken Near Adswood, Stockport Gtr Manchester. A place where the milkman has a rear & mid upper machine-gunner.
24. Have a bump. If I had the money I'd be seriously interested, seems a really good price. Unfortunately my funds are at zero I've been wanting a P-bass and that one looks reet smart.
 25.
I think I felt sommat had gone wrong at this point and was blaming the dots or the Drummer. Well it was the drummer, not my reading.
Was it a rough neighbourhood? It's just that that looks like razor wire on top the fence
