Hello. I've bought a subscription and created a 'for sale' thread, but alas it's still not showing. Could a mod assist? http://basschat.co.uk/topic/265885-ampeg-svt-head-and-mesa-410-cab-both-flightcased-l350-each

I haven't been active on here in a long time, and I haven't been active on the strings either sadly. I'm hanging onto the basses for now, but the gig-sized amp setup has to go unfortunately. It's an: Ampeg SVT350H Bass Head First up, the head is great. It gives you that Ampeg tone, without the valve weight. Yes, it's not quite the same, but it's more than good enough for all but the most committed of tone snobs. 350W RMS output at 4 Ohms. Drives one or two cabs with no issue. Have a look on the internets for further details or reviews. It's the predecessor to the SVT450H and is basically the same, just 100W less. In short, this rig is the perfect gigging/touring set-up. Well-protected, reliable, from brands to be trusted. Pictures are attached, and CLICK HERE to view a video. The head's flightcase has a tour label on it which currently has my name/number on it, get some spirits and a rag and that'll come off, ready for your details instead. Priced at £350 including the flightcase (which alone is worth £100). A mighty fine price! I would also accept a trade of an Aguilar Tonehammer. I also have the cab up for sale, which can be found HERE. If you want to take both we can work out a price, and I'll happily entertain fair offers. At the moment, no swaps. I'm in Epsom (Surrey), feel free to try before you buy. Alternatively, I can drive a reasonable distance to meet. I have a courier I can use if you're further away to post.

Barefaced Retro Six 10 (610) owners/reviews/opinions?
Bankai replied to smeet's topic in Amps and Cabs
Is it the Retro Six 10, or it's predecessor; the 69er? -
I used to work in a large guitar shop, and I got to play around with every high end brand bass there is. There were only ever two basses that stood out and made me wish I had the money to buy them. One was a Sandberg VM5, the other was a Rickenbacker 4001. I ran all these basses through the same amps, same cables etc so Rick must have done something right. Other brands I had used were Fender, Sadowsky, Lakland, G&L, Ibanez, Gibson, et al.
Who uses just one sub with two tops? I never figured out why people do that and companies sell that kind of setup... I don't want anything less than a pair of each cab for my band's PA. Just one sub is bad for a pub band, where is it going to go? On the middle is the better place but it sits in front of the stage and there's no room on the pub for people to walk or stand. Goes to one side but it will be drowning the musicians near it with lows... one at each side will be able to be used at lower volume and make the stage and venue sound more balanced.
Having a sub on either side of the stage will nearly always result in a worse sound out front in smaller venues. Phase mashing and all that. One single decent sub will give much better results.
I still got my perfect 10 mini bass stack lol
That was one of my first amps and it sounded great. Got replaced only because it wasn't loud enough for gigging.

A common fix to this on the OTB was to replace the 12AX7 valves with 12AT7 ones. As they had a lesser gain you got a more usable range of tones, plus it cleared up the DI output.

£700 would probably pick you up a second hand USA Standard Fender. They're good right?

I have the MXR M80 which I rather like. Never had a chance to try a different one such as the Sansamp so can't compare, but I'd suggest giving the M80 a try if there's a store near you that has one.

Trace Elliot - Mystery Cab - Help Needed Please!
Bankai replied to BillyYeehah!'s topic in Amps and Cabs
Send Thornybank a message. He's the resident Trace Elliot Meister -
Just picked up a cab from this chap. He was thoroughly nice and works as a sound engineer so knows his technical stuff. Everything went smoothly, and he even did a little repair for me for no additional cost! In short, lovely bloke.

Pre amp and master volume....what's the difference.
Bankai replied to jonnythenotes's topic in General Discussion
One is a gain control, the other is a volume control. As you turn up a gain control, you increasingly amplify the signal going through the circuit. With a volume control, when it's on maximum it's not doing anything to the signal, it's as you turn it down it's adds resistance and brings the signal down. -
In pursuit of the ultimate quality clean tone, I tried all sorts of amps, but settled on a pre/power setup. It sounds fantastic, has miles of headroom and is very transparent. What pre and power amps do you have in mind?
It's not so much about having a clean tone that I'm interested in this route, it's more so about having something fairly neutral that doesn't add or detract from the tone already being generated by the preamp. I use the MXR M80 at the moment. Might upgrade to a sansamp at some point in future, but the M80 does the job well for now. Power amp, I'm open to suggestions. Are there any specifications that make a PA power amp good for bass usage, or will any power-amp that's good for PA be good for bass? (e.g. Crown, EV, etc.) Cab wise, I'm going to have to go for a normal 4x10 for now. Maybe I'll look to barefaced when the budget allows

Nowadays, I get my tone from an MXR M80 DI which is fine when running straight to a pa, however when I'm running through a normal bass amp I just set everything neutral and still get quite a bit of coloration. Sooooo, I'm considering getting a rackmount power amp and a fairly neutral cab, primarily for monitoring, but with enough power to do a gig without pa support if required. Has anyone got suggestions of a good way of going about this? I've got my eyes on a nice crown class-d amp which should do the job.

Any chance those of you commenting on this thread, could weigh in on my other one about venues? http://basschat.co.uk/topic/224894-music-venues/

Inadequate shielding on the pickups? Is it an active bass?

Any thoughts on the new Orange head coming out? https://www.orangeamps.com/products/bass-guitar-amp-heads/ob-1k-bass-amplifier/
Matamp GT200 and a Barefaced '69er. Gain and bass up full volume at 75%. So fat and round, yet still defined. It's made me fall in love with my Ricky 4003 again.
When I win the lottery, that's what I'm aiming for too!

I had the Terror Bass 500 and SP210. It was good, but I sold the Terror head on a few months later as it wasn't versatile or clean enough for me. I kept the cab for a couple of years until I sold it recently. It was very small and very lightweight but still loud enough for gigs. Although, you have to trade off sound quality and bass response to have something that small. If you NEED something small, then go for it. If you don't need something that small, get something else.
OK, does the encryption mean that you'll have issues if you swap basses and use two different transmitters with a single receiver?
No, you just need to make sure they use the same settings.

I've just finished mixing my band's debut E.P The tracks were recording by somebody else (who hasn't done the best job of it) so I could only do so much. We're going to be releasing this in a couple of weeks so I've got some time left so sort out any issues. If anybody has time I'd very much appreciate it if you could give the tracks a listen and give me some feedback or suggest some alterations. Please ignore the file names, they are silly working titles! https://www.dropbox.com/s/eu6oiawrw68v7jt/YaldiAlex_BETAVERSION.wav https://www.dropbox.com/s/c56utewqo04vahr/GoodbyeAlex_BETAVERSION.wav https://www.dropbox.com/s/trryjlad7bo8u0a/SoundsLikeAlex_BETAVERSION.wav https://www.dropbox.com/s/0o7dlm73dwcsamw/AlexisRacist_BETAVERSION.wav https://www.dropbox.com/s/qf6ty7357cwj85b/EmbraceAlex_BETAVERSION.wav

I've got a dbx 266XL. It does the job and doesn't say Behringer on it.

It can be done, but you'd need an adapter to allow you to connect both the internal amp as well as an external one at the same time. Something like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/6-35mm-Mono-2-into-1-Splitter-Adaptor/dp/B005JKY43K
