1. Andy ..yer a gent Progress .. Found a 5 string piezo in a drawer that i forgot about, made up a bridge for it, tried it on the bass ,,too short !! Turns out Artec do 2 types, this was the narrow version (no good). So i will have to order one now, thought i'd hit the jackpot there. Anyhoo did another bridge that will accomodate the correct size pickup this time.. Ian Oh ..question The neck is fairly deep set,, do you think there's enough meat there to glue it in? It's a very tight fit and seriously tempting. Course if anything goes wrong with the body .. i can always recycle a good neck. Think I just answered my question there.
2. Neck carving is now complete ,,, Neck pocket is routered, Sunshine ! Ian
3. Personally i liked the gplan look, but i must admit ........ what a stunning transformation.
4. Serious clampin' ! Looking good so far Andy
5. Thanks Owen
They should be with you today
6. Thanks guys That EUB was a few years ago now Gareth i really enjoyed doing that still having the odd noodle with it too but i'm never going to be a Niels Pederson. Pretty much every timber on this is qsawn Plunger ..well spotted Started just roughing out the headstock. Im extending out to fret 1. As far as im concerned everything behind this is fair game on a fretless .. It's nice to do a little something with handtools for a change. Going for the whole Snooker Cue thing here with loads of veneers (I'm not doing this again, from now on i am keeping this MUCH simpler). Got the oles drilled, fingerboard radius'd and position markers in. More routing and control cover ...Ovankol matching the neck wood. Just waiting for a set of strings coming, i want to do a mock up before i decide where exactly to put the neck, then it's just the neck carve and pocket routing to go which i have already prepared a template for. Ian
7. American white oak wood be a good possibility

9. Wee update... We now have a neck. squinty Ian
10. Not good, the closer you look ..the worse it gets.
11. Thanks guys Neck started now,,,,, headstock jointed and the head plate on.. The joint is rounded out and veneer(s) glued on ,, Managed to resist the urge for a blingy headstock and just matched the body,,,(front) Erm however, couldn't resist matching the satinwood in the neck with a bit of figuring on the back .. Ovankol, satinwood stringers and figured makore in the middle (neck) Fingerboard Pau Ferro
12. It's always cauld in Aberdeen .. take yer thermals Andy! You have your work cut out there m8 looks like water damage to me ..good luck ! Ian
13. Cracking on .. Bound the soundhole.. was looking a bit bare .. There will be a brass plate going here to sit the strings which i will also ground, Ian M
14. Bridge looks fantastic Jabba, love the way it follows the body line and the way you anchor the strings ..brilliant !
15. Strip type Dazed, that said i think the Artec does have a piezo element for each string under the bonnet.
16. Thanks chaps, probably take a wee punt on the Artec first (thanks Owen,JPJ )and take it from there. Jabba's nearly there so looking forward to his comparisons. Cheers Andy it's pretty much my usual shape with a rounder bottom. African Walnut on the top(s), it's nowhere near as nice as our own pucker Walnut but it's not unpleasant once it has a finish on it, African Cherry (Makore) in the middle, Makore is becoming my fav mahogany substitute the bit i used here is a lovely quarter sawn piece. Ian
17. It's pockets Jab ,,,,,,big uns! Main aim was to have the area under the bridge 'live' and stable. Seems good so far,
18. Cor thats a stunner innit ! Mines might be a tad humbler in comparison . Doing a similar thing but I want the chambering to have a major affect on the tone. It's a balancing act, how much material to remove without having a negative impact on the stability of the instrument. I think i have it just right... we shall see when it's built.
19. Working on a piezo bass 5s at the moment. Anybody got any thoughts / experience with this you'd care to share? Looking at using a piezo cable ..... any recommendations, electrics too ......buffer & EQ ? Ian
20. If that includes the FB then seems about right Bastav, just looks much thicker in the photos. PS ..Wenge ...is one of the worst woods to work imho. Used it once and never again. Ian
21. Out of interest....how thick is the neck?
