1. Blablas what sort of thickness do you do your flat boards? I assume you start with a thinner board than you would when doing a radiused board? Does this even make sense ? IanM
2. That's the other pickup done, was a real squeeze fitting this one (bridge) but it's in. Tested the coils with a ohmmeter and they are fit 'n' healthy. I can't just put two pickup holes in the middle of each side (EMG) as the coils are pretty much filling up the whole shell so i will have to put the holes in the corners. Instead of 4 holes on each pickup i think i will be lazy and try to get away with two holes per pickup at opposite corners. Next job is the fingerboard... After reading Blablas's comments about flat fingerboards i think i might try this myself. I have played a flat fingerboard on a 4 string and found it absolutely fine. I got to thinking that putting a radius on a FB may just be a leftover from bowed instrument days and maybe i have been phaffing about unnecessarily all these years. Anyhoos time to put this to the test ! IanM
3. Ta ☺ i still have the holes to drill for pickup screws.
4. Pickups -- Ideally a set of EMG's like the last one but seeing as this is just for me (and the pricetag.,, i had to get my brother to buy them himself it would have made me unwell !) .if it's a bass I really take too and i ever was to start playing again then i would consider the upgrade, So i have a nice set of stacked humbuckers, squeeze them into an EMG shell and i have an upgrade option if i fancy it. So made some sycamore shells and capped them with some leftover ebony.. Resin potted and shielded hence the extra wire .. Under the bonnet .. Just got the next one to finish. Ian

6. Glad it was useful Finished the job today.. Pretty happy with the result IanM
7. Welcome to the fold Honza looking forward to your builds and i can admit a hint of drum sander envy 😊
8. Needed a slightly bigger control cavity cover so thought i'd share how i make a set of templates. First i make a new cover plate in mdf, i will then copy this with a flush trimming bit which gives me a better Master Template with nice square sides. I now need to make a routing template for the new cover. So roughly hack out a hole in some mdf that is 4/5 mm bigger than the cover template, I then add a few layers of sellotape to the cover plate template edges. This will help to make our routing template slightly bigger than the cover plate. I don't want it too tight. Cover this tape with silicone or vaseline to stop any resin sticking to it. I have also sealed the bottom what will be the 'mold' with sellotape.... Flip this over and sit the Cover template inside. This now gives a seal around the whole assembly. Nip to Halfords...get yourself some fibre glass resin (and hardener) £5.00 a pop for a small bottle. Mix it and pour it in the gap between the mold and the cover plate template... Note I have made a few little 'wells' in the mdf to help pour the resin, this also helps to key the resin to the mdf when it's set. Nip out for a brew...it will be hardened by the time you get back. Take the sellotape off the back and pop the Cover plate template out, remove the sellotape from the edges... Et Voila ...... a new control cover plate template AND a routing template for it PS You can use the same technique to make pickup routing templates AND neck pocket templates..... Hope this is some help to someone, i find it makes a far better job that trying to fit covers by hand ! IanM
9. Great job robo, look forward to seeing it painted
10. Be good to hesr the difference between the two pickups
11. Great job Andy some brilliant and unique work there. With a thinderous bottom end like that it's ......Mick's Bass Of Boom !!😊
12. It's awful to work Norris, Wenge used to be my most hated wood it's not now ! I did salvage enough ebony for a head cap myself but it's the worst piece with interlocked grain and a knot..i was going to try it through the planer but nah don't think so now. I'll need a plan B for this probably revert to a nice veneer.
13. Well all the image links from photobucket are busted, what a pain ! I will re-do this post when i can be arsed..... Anyhoo here's the latest progress courtesy of imgur.... Rounded over and body carved. The ebony was a nightmare in the end. It comes supplied with one good..ish surface, the other is left with deep saw marks so required planing. It was tearing out on a few places so i ended up having to do a fair bit of sanding to get it to this stage, happy now though Limba for the back. It's colour is light on the outside and gives a nice contrast with the Ebony. The Brown in the middle should blend with the Shedua Neck when viewed from the back. (Well that's the intention). Neck ...well... it will be .. IanM
14. Have some nice figured shedua suitable for a neck so got down to some serious planin' Scarf join the headstock and i have the body in clamps too,,,good day
