1. They're a bit Arthur Negus.
2.
Eye of the Tiger. I ' ve never liked it, it's horribly cheesy. The bass line is boring and dificcult at the same time (a bit too fast for me). Singer sounds like Vic Reeves doing his pub singer impersonation. We 're only doing it cos drummer likes the cymbal thrashing.
Suggest 'New Rose' to him.
3. I've learnt how to play Moondance from the tab.
4. After having the same problem with the last two pairs of Sennheiser in ears I bought a pair of Klipsch Image X1's. They're really very good and are a year in with some heavy use showing no signs of breaking. They seem to be £33 on Amazon now but I picked mine up for around £20 so I guess they fluctuate?
5. Loved it Nige. Love the song. Loved the humour. I get so bored by moody videos. It's the first thing in weeks that's coaxed me out of my recent internet fatigue. Your shirt's a bit dodge though....
6. Just as an aside. At some gigs I wish I couldn't hear the bass player 'cutting through' so much. A lot of the time it's me!
7. I bet the jazz players you couldn't hear had 'killer' bedroom tones.
8. I'd start from afresh. No baggage. Plus. If you do get some success you'd be sure to have an ex Paper Soldier or 2 who suddenly remembers being in on the creative process....
9.
Funny how many truly great bass player's name's rhyme with Lee , McVie , Lea , Flea Dr D
Low End Bee
10. I'd just be chuffed someone wanted to join my band. Then I'd tell them to stroll on.
11. Fantasy producer for my band? Late 70s to early 80s Martin Rushent please.
12.
ive just had a look and it does have a pre / post switch. so will it need to be in post, then i can alter the master volume without it effecting the sounding at front of house?
I have a TC amp and all my gigs are DI these days. The master volume will not affect the DI signal. If you turn up too much you may ruin the FOH sound. Particularly in smaller venues. I'd ask for more bass through my monitor if I neede to hear more of myself during the gig.
13. 45-105 Generic all the way.
14. Due to a splendid chap offering a long term loan arrangement I seem to have a spare room full of Ampeg Baby Bass. First impressions are that playing it is a doddle. I stopped looking at the side markers after about 10 minutes. Playing it well and getting it to fit in my little car will be another matter. Who'd have thought.
15.
In The Daves, Complete Control, by The Clash In The Tuesday Club, our new single, Ain`t Got No Class
Class. I'd love us to have a bash at that or Janie Jones if we ever did a cover. My favourite at the moment is our newest song that we haven't even gigged yet called Young Enough To Die. It's got shed loads of energy.
16. We're definitely donig a few Jethrosonic appearances in 2013. Up for trading for a fretless or short scale fretted old school looking beater. What you got?
17. Some of the best gigs I've done have been 3 bands on a bill jobs Some of the worst gigs have also. The mix of bands is critically important.
18. Dammit. I thought we were going to get an interesting thread about songwriting
19.
Motown's funk brothers without James Jamerson (although I liked Bob Babbit's style too).
That was Carole Kaye guv.
20. Have a good one. Feel the glove.
21. Thanks for the advice everyone. Flats and foam looks a good option. I'll resist the full on nylon tapewounds as I will still need the spare Precision to be a back up for the full on noisy gigs too. We seem to play the songs even faster than normal in this format. No way my very average playing with fingers technique could have kept up. I might tap up Happy Jack or Clarky for amp hire.
22. I guess playing with a plectrum isn't helping either. But I'll have to work around that.
23.
What cab were you using? If it's the RS210 etc it's probably worth dialing back the tweeter too
Just my RS112. I never have the tweeter on at all on my cabs.
24. Thanks guys. I shall stick some flats on the back up Precision and give that a spin before I break out the credit card. I did exactly what you said Charic and it helped. Just not enough.
