2. Personally I would take with a huge pinch of salt anything that appeared on the EB forum. As they say themselves you are not allowed to be critical of their products on their forum paid by them. As much as a hint of criticism and all the fanboys jump on you and remind you that Sterling Ball is god and that no bad bass ever left the factory and that all other basses by other manufacturers should be used for firewood. I had a very nice Stingray but it, as most of them seem to be, was bedevilled by the G problem. No matter how much setting up (by professionals) I was never able to adequately get the G sounding as I wanted it. However, my Musicman SUB gave me no such problem. I'll let you work out which one was sold and which one stayed.
3. Now you see it's all in the eye of the beholder. I wouldn't thank you for a maple fingerboard. To me the rosewood board just looks the dog's danglers on this bass.
4. When Pino plays fretless he uses his pre-EB Stingray. His Precision is fretted.
5.
Been practicing all afternoon then I see this and release how crap I am Pino's a legend
You're not crap. None of us are. We are just at different levels. It's guys like Pino however that can inspire us to keep learning and practising.
6. Sorry if it's been posted before but if you're a Pino fan you have to see this:-
7. I can add myself as belonging to the list of happy customers.
8. I love both my P basses. I like my other basses too. My P tho is the one I go to first for a gig. Also, I've never understood this cutting through the mix thing. My P can be heard when my band gig no problem. Is it a sound engineer problem?
9.
Hiya mate, yes, I looked at that. I wasn't all that impressed by V&R though, they seemed unsure of too many important factors with both that bass and the two Jazz basses another BCer was looking at. At the price they're asking I'd need more than "we have it on good authority that it's all original" (I asked for the month of manufacture and they said they hadn't had the neck off to check, which worried me. Furthermore, if you haven't checked the pocket and cavity you surely can't state for sure it's the original finish). In short, and ironically, they seemed to have a pretty casual approach to demonstrating the 64's vintage or its rarity.
I found the same type of attitude. The first thing I asked was the price. When the female assistant told me I just said "Oh!" She then rather sarcastically said; "So you'll be wanting two then?" I didn't bother to ask anything else.
10. Vintage & Rare have one. I put a thread up about it last week. They also have a '65.
11. They changed to 'pleking' fairly recently. My DJ4 has Lakland pickups and I love em'! I think the only way to get an authentic DJ sound is to get Daryll to come and play your bass.
12. I was in 'Vintage & Rare' in Denmark St at the weekend. I was admiring a 1964 Lake Placid Blue precision and wondering if the credit card would stretch enough for me to make a purchase. I asked the price. The nice young lady said £8950. I said "oh right". As I beat a hasty retreat from the shop I spotted a 1965 Sonic Blue precision. I was gorgeous. I didn't even bother to ask what they were wanting for it. Apart from not having the money, I don't think that I would pay such an amount for a bass. It got me to wondering however, how many basschatters would shell out thousands for a pre CBS precision or jazz?
13.
If you want to sell your bass in the north east of Scotland don't say Trump. It's a baaaaaaaaaaaaaaad word.
I should perhaps explain that Donald Trump is trying to buy a huge, very beautiful part of the North East of Scotland to create a golf course/hotel type empire. Locals will be evicted that don't want to be evicted and only those with pots of cash will be able to enjoy this part of the country. Needless to say it ain't going down too well. Anyway, back to selling this superb looking (and I'm sure superb playing) Jazz deluxe. Why it's not away already is a mystery!!
14. Welcome to the forum from a Paisley buddie!
15.
The first DJ I tried was strange - build was fine, setup was fine, electrics were fine, played like a complete dog. The second was a superb J-bass. Try before you buy.
Just in case you were thinking of going down the DJ4/5 route you should probably know that Lakland don't do the Daryll Jones Jazz anymore. BTW Jack I believe that my DJ4 used to belong to you. I hope that it was your second one!
16. Yep, I can thoroughly endorse the recommendation to contact 7String. Mark has just set up my Lakland DJ4 the way I want it and now it plays like butter. He's also a thoroughly nice chap which always makes life more pleasant. Mark's wife Jen also makes great tea!

18. I had the same problem with intonation recently. My tuner was telling me everything was ok but the intonation was definitely out. I tried another tuner with the same result. It was solved by a visit to '7String' (now known as the doyen of setups) who worked his magic along with a Petersen strobe tuner, everything was resolved and the world made sense once more.
19. This deluxe jazz couldn't look any better if it was covered in chocolate!
20. If you sell why not have a look at THE active Jazz that is for sale on these fine pages.
21. When I was over at Mark's (7string) yesterday he told me about seeing your bass at the bash and how great it looked. I just had to look at this thread for myself and see what a fantastic job you have done. Congratulations on a very fine looking bass.
22.
Shoot me down but there's some very 'right on' answers here and I don't think that the OP is saying he wants to perpetuate third world poverty I suspect the answer to his question lies in the apparent fact that the bass is partly US assembled, pushing up the costs considerably
+1 I also believe that all Laklands, including the Skylines, now go through the 'Plek' process in the States.
23. I've just bought my first Lakland (Skyline DJ4) from Linus27. I have to say that it is a great bass. The price was fair and the bass was immaculate. It very easily compares to MIA Jazz basses. Would I pay the full price for one? Yes, I think I probably would such is the quality of these instruments. I now don't give a toss where a bass is built as I look at the bass itself to determine if it is a quality instrument or not.
24. I can perfectly understand why you are frustrated. Like a few comments here it seems to me that this was a badly organised gig. I have organised charity gigs where three bands played two sets each. It sounds as if the organisation for your gig wasn't up to much. Plus, was it a short night? Two bands with one only playing 4 songs doesn't sound like a very good night! I wouldn't haul my gear and my ass out for less then half an hour. I also note that you're down in Port Glasgow. If I'm organising anything in future I'll give you a shout - that is as long as you're not a Morton supporter!
25.
I'll miss this if and when it ever goes - it's like an old friend
So will I.
