1. If you are planning on going for a high end PA speaker check out K-Array http://www.k-array.com/?page=Red_line Expensive but very good.
2. I've gigged during a little longer than a year with a Acme B2 both outdoors and indoors, but I've moved to a Compact last week. I think both would be great options
3. It seems to me that YOU sir have a problem with Kent when are you getting your ass here?
4. I don't want to sound greedy but if the cab makes it's way to London/Sevenoaks area can I gig with it please? I would like to know how it works with my other compact. 1 compact = good 2 compacts = better
5.
Shame you couldn't register at statii.com Have you tried sending them an Email at [email protected]? Apologies if you've already done this. Nice bass btw. Wil
Nope will do now... Thanks
6.
The best place to find out more is the statii forum at www.statii.com Good luck. Wil
Yeah I tried register there, but never received the activation email
7. Hi everyone I bought a T-bass by Status from Bass Gallery last November and since then I've been trying to gather as much information as I can. This is what I gathered so far. There were two series a 90's one and a SE edition Mine is a 98 SE edition. My teacher back at home bought one new, I think it was an SE in natural oil, but I can't be sure as I haven't checked the serial number. Some of them I think the SE ones came with a hum cancelling pick up under the pickguard, I'm going to check mine tonight. Initally I was told that they only did 100 4 strings and 100 5 strings. But Rob Green thinks he made only 50 of each, but I don't know, I have yet to find an SE with a serial number higher than mine. (031) Another thing I've noticed is that all non SE models seem to have caps on the pick ups while mine has exposed poles. I've tried to register on the Status forum to ask some questions but I've never received the activation email so I couldn't do it. If you have any information I would really appreciate. I fell in love with this bass years ago when my teacher bought one and now I'm a proud owner of one too Check the picks
8. I got my F1 from them a year ago and they had by far the best price, they a pleasure to deal with.
9.
sorry, but a 15 on its own isn't going to cut it, IMV... not any of the ones I have heard anyway.. The roll-off will be too low. A horn will pep it up and some can handle the relatively slow moving cone...but its a bass speaker and the reason why 10's are so popular is that you can get bass out of them as well and a higher end. !2's may be the compromise. FWIW, I use a 15 and 2x10 and for small gigs I use the 15 with horn as I have had to get into that habit. I'll probably take my 2x10 now tho ..having replaced the speakers recently.
I strongly disagree. My Compact cuts through two loud guitars and a loud drumer with ease, it has the punch of the mids and if I need a more old school tone I just rolled them back. I played an outdoors gig last friday and the Compact delivered, it sound wasn't quite what I prefer, mainly because of the tone pump of my Spector and me still trying to figure out what works best, but my band mates didn't noticed a thing and loved the sound. I've been following this thread with special attention and I've come to sum it up in two things. EQ Cab Placement.
10. I beleive that's due to the 24 frets. I don't think it makes that much difference to be honest, true my other bass has room to spare but you get used to it.
11. I want it badly, I have a 98` and I love it to bits. Pity is not a 5er. What didn't you like about it? There's prices on the website Barnacle.
12. Can't believe you don't have a Twitter page join me @ www.myspace.com/room3 or www.myspace.com/davidbassportugal I don't spend much time there, between work and bass chat I need to find time to play
13. I've been trying to play ALways With me Always With you for ages. I can't get the tapping right.
14. Would be nice to see the real figures. Maybe that would prompt others to be more honest... or not
15. I play more or less the same stuff you do. I second the Mark Bass choice, although their prices increased a great deal since I bought my F1 last year there are very good deals to be made still, and there's nothing wrong on buying it used. (i'm not selling mine ) I pair the F1 with a Barefaced Compact and I can tell you that you won't need anything else. If things go silly louder which I don't think they do at functions or weddings you can always run th PA, but to be honest you will never go that loud. I've tried pushing my Compact yesterday and was less than halfway with the F1 and I couldn't take it anymore. I'm taking this combination to the bass bash so you are welcome to try it there if you want.
16. +1 But in the continent that situation is even worsem exception made to Germany. Most of the countries carry little stock
17. Acme at decent prices. Ritter there's more but I just can't think at the moment.
18. As good as they sound which they do. One can have better options for half the cash. Even if you were to buy a Big One + Compact, it will still be cheaper. Or maybe an Epifani. Or even Acme if you are not soo weight concerned. I can see two Acme B2, working very well indeed.
19.
The second issue is that the sound from a cab exhibits different dispersion at different frequencies. If the cabinet has good dispersion at all frequencies than it will perform much better in difficult acoustics because the direct sound (that going in a straight line from the cab to your ear) is very similar to the reflected sound, so it doesn't matter whether your hearing mostly reflected or mostly direct sound. Although the Compact has better dispersion than a 4x10" or a horizontal 2x10" it does not have as good dispersion as a cab with a midrange driver like the Big One or your old 2x10"+5". Alex
Alex would that meant that for the OP to be able to cut through the 4x12 and the loud drummer he should be using another cab on top with good dispersion on the midrange frequencies?
20. or a foldable 8x10
21. I think it's a matter of what colouration you want. I played, TE, Ampeg, Harkte. They are all cool. But they all do colour my sound. I spent too much money on my basses and time learning technique to have my sound coloured by a cab or an amp. That's why I was using an Acme B2 with my F1, and now changed to a Compact due to it being so light. I found that when you get a new piece of gear, it's like learning how to walk all over again. You are used to boost the mids on the Ampeg, because the cab lacks them. Use an Acme and you don't have too, they work very well flat. (with my set up). Spend time adjusting your sound, also try considering cabinet placement, this has a massive impact on your overal sound.
22.
Thanks for the Midget photo Alex! Looks cute but I'm wondering how you're going to deal with fixing the grille securely. I imagined that the cab would be a bit wider so that you had room to mimic the Compact's very neat arrangement. And I'd still like to see a photo of a finished Midget sitting on top of a Compact, when you're ready. I've gigged a few times with the Compact/LMII/passive P-bass set-up. I love the tone and I'm suitably impressed by the volume too but I'd still prefer a 4-ohm option to get more headroom. Although the Compact/Midget combination sounds ideal for me I'm still having thoughts about 2 Compacts. I know what to expect from the latter but I'd be interested in hearing a bit more about the Compact/Midget, perhaps even some test results.
+1 That would be interesting to see.
23. Funny you've mentioned that. I've just changed cabs and I'm still getting to grips with my new Compact. Well before I could use my Spector with the bass boost halfway, but now it has to be flat. And I use the amp instead. This is because the tone-pump has a boost only of 18db which is way too much, on the other hand my T-bass is fine even with the lows boosted. I find that I have to roll up the gain a lot when using the T-bass. I have a picture on the side of the amp with my settings (eventually you memorize) so I don't have to tweak too much. If you must use two basses in one gig this is what i'd do.
24. It's harder to play to a man and his dog than to play to a full pub.
