1. Currently gigging in a covers band, but Birmingham based and keen to get something closer to home for rehearsals, although happy to travel to gigs. Solid reliable, good gear and large vehicle. Not a gifted musician by any stretch, but hey I'm a bass player, happy to learn varied material, but I'm not an instant able Jam type, I need notice and practice, but once its in its in. Youthful 46 yr old, not good with tempremental arty types, looking for a friendly down to earth approach ideally gigging on average a couple of times a month.
2. Thanks all for suggestions. A combination of the hippy chick seat and the dare strap looks like what I'm after. Maybe I could design the hippy strap and make a fortune. Alternately if anyone else can be arsed and sell me one that would suit better.
3. As a lanky streak, my back really suffers after gigs. I'm sure its not just carting the gear but also the pull of the bass on my back. For practises I've started using a bum bag to support the bottom horn of the bass and spead the weight to my waist and this seems to really help. It does however pull the guitar in, and look pretty stupid. Anybody come up with other solutions, or know of straps that share the weight between the waist and the shoulders? Cheers John
4. Hello there, Have now agreed swap for the orange crush. Price reduction on the Fender Combo to £100. Cheers John
5. For sale Orange Crush 35B practice amp, minor scuffs and marks but nothing of significance. £85 Also Fender BXR 300W bass combo 1 15" speaker. This amp is old and I bought it second hand but has served me well through dozens of gigs. Various battle scars, scuffs and scrapes to vinyl but all knobs etc fine, works very well never had any problems. This is a very heavy amp and to save my back I've chopped it in two so it can detach from the speaker and then be reconnected with holding clips. I've also put on heavy duty locking castors which lets it be used as a trolley for other items of gear. £125 I'm in Woodthorpe, Nottingham, NG5 any trials welcome. My mobile is 07956 860834 (John). I've just bought a mark bass combo which is very small and light so don't need either of these. I would however consider a swap (with cash adjustment either way) for one or both items for a reasonably light head as a back up, would need to be at least 200W at 8 ohm. Both would need to be pick up only. Cheers John Have now agreed a swap for the Orange crush. Price reduction on the Fender combo to £100.
6. Just to update, Went for the Mark Bass combo in the end for £799 new from Arena Music in Cambridge and bought a second 2 x 10 Mark Bass cabinet second hand for £290. Thanks for all the advice, John
7. Hello there, I'm the lucky punter that bought it. Explained to Chris that I was undecided on what to go for in that the thrust of the advice I'd had was Mark Bass cabs might not be as good as the amps, and I was leaning towards an LMII and a schroeder cab. At £290 I felt confident I would offload it if it didn't work out. Having got it home and had a play with my old head (not yet bought a new amp) it sounds top class to me. Have'nt gigged with it yet but I'm staggered at the difference. So basically just to say when looking at the new price £350 seems fair and it was at that at this morning on e-bay. I just made a best offer and got round quick with cash. I was'nt trying to stitch Chris up I was genuinely undecided and I'm sure theres no way he was mucking about asking for £350. Having met him I'm hoping he'll start giving my sons lessons on guitar and drums, so hopefully I'll pay him back the difference fairly quickly. So just for the record a very helpful and nice guy to deal with, I just got lucky. Cheers John
8.
Hi John, If you're not in a hurry you could join the Chester posse, towards the end of the first cab's route. Alternatively I could send a third cab out and it can work its way backwards along that route. Alex
Alex, Apologies for not getting back to you. I'm still googling and thinking but you're cabs seem highly regarded so I may well come back to you, Cheers John
9.
Whereabouts in the UK are you? You might like to slot yourself into the 'Barefaced On Tour' schedule here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=557968 Alex
Hi Alex, I'm in Nottingham, but our vocalist is in Chester so that might be a good excuse for a night away and a few pints. Whats the score with making arrangements timing etc.. Cheers John
10. Cheers All, Sounds like good quality advice from those more experienced than me, so thanks very much. Not gigging now until September so I've got plenty of time to think it all over. Thanks again John
11.
The LM3/2 goes well with a lot of amps. I prefer Aguilars or Bergantino cabs....if you are after a modular setup, two Aguilar DB112s would be amazing. But...they cost a fair bit, as do the Berg AE112s...so its best to get one at once unless they are on offer. Also, you could try a Barefaced Compact.....Alex is on this forum all the time...he is sending one round for trial. They are very light and very efficient. Have a read around on this subforum....lots of great info If I were you...Id go for separate LM2/3...but that because Im not a an of combos. Some people love the Markbass combos!
Cheers, From what I've read it does sound like seperate head and cab is the way I'll go. Guess I'll have to price it up, and get grovelling.
12.
I really like Markbass amps. I have the LM3....it works wonders. Clean, powerful, lots of low end. I do not use Markbass cabs though....I cannot comment on their speakers. I think someone has that combo on sale on here?!
Cheers for that. I have read that the amps are better than the cabs. The combo I was looking at as I understand it has the same amp as the LMII, so I'm also considering that and a seperate cab. Can I ask what cabs / cabs you do use? Cheers John
13. Hello there, New to this so if I ramble forgive me. I'm a fairly clueless bassist playing in a covers band of the get up and dance variety. Pubs, private parties, weddings etc.. Played bass for two years and main bass is a Mexican Fender Precission Special which is a hybrid Precission / Jazz, with both P & J Pick ups (I think thats right). Currently play through a Fender BXR 300c combo, although Ive chopped the cabinet so the head can detach and be refixed with holding clamps (its a very heavy combo). This would howver I presume give me the option to use the 15" cab seperately. I mainly play with a pick being a failed guitarist, although I'm trying to play with fingers on the gentler stuff. I think the guitar is OK but the combo seems boomy or tinny with not much in between, so I'm thinking of replacing it and want to spend up to £1000. The wife would be happier with a lot less. After looking at forums I'm quite taken with the Markbass CMD 102P combo, with the option to use the 15" cab as a supplementary if needed although I think thats unlikely. The reported clean sound and weight attract me. Any thoughts or other suggestions would be gratefully received. Cheers John
