1. Because I always go back home at that time of the year we never do Xmas or NYE. This year our last gig will be on the 17th as i'm going from the 18th until the 3rd. £400 for a NYE is indeed very very cheap. But you still charge very little for your average gig. How many of you in the band? I'd probably charge a bit more, but then again I charge more than you already. Do you have dinner included? Drinks?
2. Hi I bought this acoustic bass last year for very litle money and then decided to make a fretless out of it and put some flatwounds on it. It sounds ok and I tried to play with it on my rock band but I don't really have use for it. Comes with a gig bag. Pick it up from Sevenoaks, or maybe Putney when I drive in.
3. I like to use percussive fills that add to what the drummer is doing. One note fills are also good, and vibrato is never too much. I'd suggest you to listen non-stop to other styles of music for a month or so, and then try to bring those influences into your playing, you will find very refreshing I hope.
4. If there's no price on the add, I'm very unlikely to PM anyone. Maybe i'm missing out on a great deal, maybe I'm not. If I walk into a shop and don't see the price tag, I walk out (it happened recently at luton airport) I can't be asked to go and find a shop assistant and ask her the price. Same thing for sales here, price tag please. Now what really annoys me, is: "feelers & how much is worth". You either want to sell it or you don't, you don't come up and ask me the price co's i'll tell you a price that's way lower than the actual price and then sell it with a profit
5. 15% on the Compact will mean a reduction of around 2kgs. Considerably light if you think that 2kgs is the weight of my Mark bass. That means a rig that weights 14kgs in total. That was impossible a couple years ago. I bet that if you walked into a bar in the 80's and said that you have that light a rig they would laugh at you and stick you in spikes. If the quality of the cab, durability and sound performance is unaffected I think the reduction justifies the price. It feels weird to be talking and carrying gear so light. I'm the guy with the lightest rig in my band by a very very long shot.
6. How light/thin can you go until you start to affect the durability and the strenght of the cab? The wood is put through so much presure inside. I'm sure one can only go so thin...
7. it's your computer. Install adobe V 9 and you should be fine.
8. Pearl Jam
9. Great. I've been following this one with special interest. It's good to hear that you finally managed to find the sound you were looking for. As for sound dispersion it is my understanding that Barefaced do that very well. At least that's true with my compact and I assume that would be the case with the Big One, more so with the added mids of the driver.
10. I'd wait for Alex's input.
11. Damm sexy bass. I would sell the car and get one without a turbo and keep the ritter. I'll own one someday
12.
That's what your guitarist told me. Alex
Oh I see. He is afraid to fly. That may be why. Oh new band reharsals tonight and I'll have to use the studios gear didn't have time pick my beloved compact. That sucks.
13. I'm not on that list? Am I not allowed?
14. Hi everyone To save me creating two topics I've decided to use this one and talk about two different techniques i've been aproaching but would like to know if anyone else uses them and what advice can I get. The 1st one is playing like a pick but using the corner of your thumb for a pick. I use this in songs that require more attack and more speed like "Parallel universe" by RHCP, or "are you gonna be my girl", by the Jet. It can be a bit painfull to start with but in time it becomes easier and easier, and I use it mostly for up and down strokes, then if I need to switch to a full low note I just move the thumb forward and play the note. The 2nd one is a 4 finger strum like the one used by flamenco players. I can't get it to be usefull in a band situation mainly because I'm still getting to grips with chords, but when using root+5th+8th it sounds good and sometimes just root+5th is good as well. I've been playing about with this and trying to control the volume of each stroke so it doesn't get out of hand. Does anyone else plays this way, where can I find more info? Thanks David
15.
Surely Lemmy would piss all over Flea in that comparison??????
Just until Chuck Norris came around
16. I'm the best player ever to play in my band, that's what they say anyway. I'm happy with that
17. There's only one and that's Gallery
18. I can't wait to read a review after you have gigged with it. props to Alex for an excelent customer service
19.
However - you wouldn't believe how difficult it is just to make sure the nights run smoothly. Every month without fail we have someone let us down. One band's guitarist left and they didn't bother to tell us until we sent them out the soundcheck/stage times a week before. We thought that bands would want a gig and we'd be over-run with gig requests, but more often than not we have to chivvy and chase people to play!
I've heard that too. If the band is not professional then I'd say they don't play anywhere you promote. I can't think of not calling a place I'm booked at if I can't make it. I had to cancel a gig but instead of cancelling I got a band of a mate doing the gig for us, they enjoyed it and we didn't got know as the band who cancels and doesn't give a f###. It's strange how people complain about not having gigs and then don't show up.
20. Funny you say that, we just gor booked 6 gigs at the same place for the next couple months. True we drew a pretty good crowd during the past 5 gigs there this summer and we always talk to the landlord. I came to find that promoters are useless and they don't have a clue. They want you to play for free while they are charging a fee. I had a guy once telling me that he could only afford paying £30 to the band for a two hour set 60 miles from our usual place, I tried hard not to laugh. Talk to the bar owners but don't go there at lunch times or in the evening when you know full well they are busy and get annoyed if you want to have a chat with them. Take your ipod or a cd player and let them hear it there and then and take also some pictures as well. David
21. Dumb ass, I meant to say not sealed.
22. But that's not the case with the Compact. It's quick without having a mid or a tweeter and it's also sealed. now i'm confused
23. you can use one of these and Alex you may want to put these stickers on, just for H&S issues
