So I'm just interested in what difference (sound, structural etc etc) it makes when a bass body is made up from a number of different pieces of wood!? What would the characteristic differences be between say a 4 piece body and a 1 piece body? Cheers Si

The main tuning i use in my band is Drop C Standard, so thats C, F, Bb, Eb. I use 45-105 gauge, high tension, Newtone strings and get a tension and action similar to a bass tuned to standard. Although gauge has a little to do with tension, the perception that heavier gauge is necessary for lower tunings isn't precisely true, its more to do with the size of the core of the string. The larger the core itself the more tension you get, giving the potential to have lighter gauges in low tunings. Thats if you can find a string brand that can custom wind thicker cores to the gauge of your choice, like i said, i use Newtones! Si

Steve - Full instructions for fitting come with transfer if you buy from Trey, gimme a PM and I'll give you his email and prices etc You can basically request anything logo wise. I'm really looking forward to getting this finished, the tuners are on their way, then its just a case of affixing the transfer which might take a week or so to dry (lacquering etc), sorting the buzz in the electronics out, stringing her up, and off we go! I have a few different tones in my head for the couple of different bands. My USA Jazz through my mini Ashdown rig (EVO 500, Mini 48) is fantastic, couldn't be happier! For covers that is. Originals wise, my Drop C 'ThingRay' through my full Ashdown rig (above + Mini 15) is also fantastic, and couldn't ask for more from a low tuned bass. But my Drop D tone is a bit lacking, but hopefully a pending deal will sort that all out, more details when it happens! Like i said, i love the tone of my Ashdowns, but the size of the drivers and cabs mean that they don't throw sound a great distance, would love to try some larger cabs in my various musical settings to see if i would get on with them. I'm also waiting on the tuners to finish my 'Early 80's P/J Encore Project' thing, with a DiMarzio in, should sound awesome. Si

I usually use two fingers alternating for the majority of my playing. I utilise a 3 finger r-m-i-r-m-i etc technique for fast triplets, i find that playing the fingers in that order as opposed to i-m-r gives me a bit more bounce on the string for whatever reason. I've also begun working on it a lot harder to smooth it out so i can play fast 4ths with no accents. Often i also play 3 finger + thumb plucking technique, but that tends to be for more chilled out passages because you (I) don't get as much attack compared to standard finger style Si
