1. Hey, i didn't bad-mouth the neck pocket did i, i just wanted pictures!
If the neck moves in the pocket tighten the screws up
A neck wouldn't move in the pocket if it was a tight fit! And just for clarity, this particular gap doesn't bother me Si
2. I use a Laney RB1 for practice at home! Fantastic little kick back amp for low to medium volumes, love the tone, don't need to crank it simply because its a practice amp really. I've used it on a couple of small upright gigs to great success, but thats about it. Si
3. So my poor Shuker Custom Electric Upright has been sitting in its case for a while now, having not had an upright gig in a long time. Obviously i can take pics although am just wondering what people think at the mo. The spec is the standard one found on John's website, although the body on mine looks deeper then his gallery pics, it's made from African Mahogany with an Imbuya Burl top and matching headstock, is 36" scale and has the Schertler transducer pickup system. The fingerboard is unmarked but has dots and lines on the side. It attaches to the supplied tripod stand The bass is in fantastic, almost mint condition apart from a couple of very very minor scuffs on the top of the headstock. It would come with the Shuker softcase and a bow, which, IIRC is a Stentor brazilwood w/ebony frog 3/4 bow costing about £120 new. Collection only as i would urge people to try it! It cost £1375 NEW + Bow = £1495 I would want around £900 for this or see possible trade list in post below Cheers for looking Si p.s. forgot to mention, theres a video on my personal myspace of me bowing the bass for Gabby Young, listen through headphones or decent speakers!
4. i dunno, i know a few! Si
5. Sounds interesting! However hellish that roundabout looks, it is in my eyes pure genius! Si
6. I think you'll find the politically-correct term is Civil Partnership lol Should be a laugh Si
7. Weren't the Ergodynes made from Luthite? Remember picking a couple up a few years ago and them being far from light!? Si
8. Thanks mate, appreciate it! Si
9. Beautiful! Hate to be anal but i don't suppose you have any more close up shots of the neck joint on both sides from the front? Cheers Si
10. So an early conclusion might be that a single piece body will resonate much better then 3 piece glued body (ignoring laminates & veneers etc), but a 3 piece body may sound better then a laminated body that uses badly matched woods!? Hmmm Si
11. Glad you found it helpful! As far as i know Newtone don't give out Endorsements as such, because they're a small 2 or 3 man company. But they make wicked custom strings and great prices and service, so i'm up for shouting them out to people! Si
12. So I'm just interested in what difference (sound, structural etc etc) it makes when a bass body is made up from a number of different pieces of wood!? What would the characteristic differences be between say a 4 piece body and a 1 piece body? Cheers Si
13.
Just checked out the FSOF MySpace. I love 'The Saviour'. Great work Simon
Thanks a lot! Appreciate it! Si
14. Cool mate! http://www.newtonestrings.com/ Give Malcolm a ring, tell him what tuning you're using and what kinda gauge and tension feel you want. They cost around the same as a set of Elites. Say Simon Poulton recommended them! Si
15. The main tuning i use in my band is Drop C Standard, so thats C, F, Bb, Eb. I use 45-105 gauge, high tension, Newtone strings and get a tension and action similar to a bass tuned to standard. Although gauge has a little to do with tension, the perception that heavier gauge is necessary for lower tunings isn't precisely true, its more to do with the size of the core of the string. The larger the core itself the more tension you get, giving the potential to have lighter gauges in low tunings. Thats if you can find a string brand that can custom wind thicker cores to the gauge of your choice, like i said, i use Newtones! Si
16. Well thats never gonna happen is it lol Si
17. Thank-ya kindly sir Si

20. Man, a loada money on a loada rubbish!! Si
21. Looks amazing! I actually prefer the black guard, not a massive fan of red tort! Doesn't the J-Retro Deluxe have the jack plug on the side of the body? with an extra knob on the front plate? Si
22. You're joking right?! I hate gigging with 'lectric kits. Unless you have an awesome drum sound coming out your monitor, it sounds awful on stage!! Tap:Tap:Tap:Tap when it should be THUMP:BANG:WALLOP lol Ear plugs recommended of course! Si
23. Steve - Full instructions for fitting come with transfer if you buy from Trey, gimme a PM and I'll give you his email and prices etc You can basically request anything logo wise. I'm really looking forward to getting this finished, the tuners are on their way, then its just a case of affixing the transfer which might take a week or so to dry (lacquering etc), sorting the buzz in the electronics out, stringing her up, and off we go! Si
24. I'm giving a +1 to the way it looks now, sorry Beedster Looks like an awesome bass at an awesome price! maybe if its still about in a couple of months........ ^_^ But good luck with the sale! Si
