1. Would you ship with the neck off to New Zealand?!
2. Dammit! I move to New Zealand and there is a spree of fender Kingman basses for sale at home! And I really need an acoustic bass here!!!
3.
I've got a German Corvette, Mine's built like a tank.
Surely that's built like a Panzer! haha Yeah, tried both. Wasn't keen on the Rick so much as the Warwick- but someone else beat me to the Warwick. Another of the same model came up for a similar price but I think I may change tack altogether and put some money aside for a Fender Acoustic Bass of some sort or a G&L L2000 tribute. Anyone got either of these they'd be willing to ship to NZ? haha
4. A Dingo took my power supply! Thanks so far guys. Shep, I should point out that I have a psu for the Supersynth-the one that came with it when I bought it. So would a Boss PSA240/30 through the TU-2 power the Bass VT Deluxe?
5. Ok, having thought about it, I may just run all the 9v's from a boss PSU (through the tuner) and power the 9v VT Bass and 12v Super Synth using their own dedicated supplies. What do you guys think?
6. As it says in the title, am looking at both basses, but know very little about either if I'm totally honest. Played a few Warwicks in the past (albeit briefly) and not really sure. I think this one's German, but will have to check. I do know its got 2 band act/pas eq and jazz style MEC's The Ricky on the other hand- I know SFA about. Anyone got any experience of them What's a fair price for each model? Will have to make up my mind fast though! lousy indecision... ( If it was a Fender or Gibson I'd be fine )
7. Hi guys, Now that I've sorted out how I'm gonna run my effects loop, I'm wondering about power supply units. Is there one power supply I can use that will power my Boss Tu-2 tuner, Fender Sublime bass fuzz, Tech21 VT Bass Deluxe (all 9v, though VT Bass Deluxe manual says 100mA minimum) and my Markbass Super Synth which i think is 12v? For example, would this be suitable, considering I'm on a budget at the mo Not sure about mA, voltages etc etc Any help appreciated. If anyone has one that'll do the job they want to sell me, I'd be happy to chat Cheers, Col
8. Hi guys, First post in quite a while! I have just started putting together a very basic set-up here in NZ- 77 Precision, Fender Rumble 100. Effects wise I've got a Markbass Supersynth and a Sansamp VT Bass Deluxe on a Coffin Case board. I am also looking at getting a Boss Tu-2 tuner. My question is- what is the best way to run the effects? I plan on using the effects loop of the amp as much as possible, but not sure which way round. Also keen on the idea of adding a loop station at some point. Any help would be greatly appreciated (Really missing my Ampeg and Marshall rigs and my Bad Mutha Board-which had all my effects prewired and recessed into a case-just had to plug into a boss PSM going back to the effects loop!)
9. Hey to all. Haven't been on in ages but had to contribute to the PF500 issue as no one here seems to have gotten a go with one. Well, just back from Wellington in the land down-under-er and I had a chance to play one with matching 210 cab while I was in Rockshop there. All I can say is-wow! First off, I'd never even heard of these-didn't know Ampeg had started a new line, though i had seen some stuff re a limited US made Portaflex combo. Second i went in to try a tech 21 VT (still need one if anyone has one!) saw this wee amp and cab sitting in the back and thought-gotta try that! Picked up a HW1 P Bass and awy I went. Serious boomage! Definately Ampeg tone. Really decent EQ. Heaps of bells and whistles on it. It really was great and at what i worked out as circa 500euros (999NZD) serious bang for the buck. The look is seriously retro and the cool little led light up top is a nice touch too. the fliptop bit is sweet too-saves on cases and transport mishaps I guess. I bought a Micro VR from a fellow BCer last year and of all my gear back home, I miss that the most. But I reckon i may go for the PF500 in a few weeks... Will let you know. Cheers, Col
10. You are of course correct-something I only discovered recently (very recently). Apologies, good sir
11. Ive got 2 (1 VERY) big rigs, a small rig and a combo for my EUB But they're all at the other side of the globe at the mo down under-er, I have just got a Fender Rumble 100 (the second one I've owned) and a P Bass- does the trick nicely!
12.
Yes, they stopped maing them a few years ago. Can't remember how much they were new but the 4 strings go for about £6-700 which is a bit odd as you can usually pick up a second hand neckthrough one for about £800ish
The Studio's are neck through. I have a IV and V- the IV retailed in Ireland for circa 1300 euros and the V was 1480 (still have the tag for that in the case) However, I got both mine second hand and paid around 500 for the IV and 600 for the V Hope that helps
13. I use mine with a 610HLF- AMAZING!!!! You could probably pick one up for around 600-700 on here or the bay. I've lost two of those cables so far-they can be easily made up (using better cable even) in mere minutes. Enjoy man, they are big, bad and very beautiful
14. Marshall are, by all accounts a great bunch to deal with. Haven't heard any real horror stories about customer service yet. Fair play, especially when they make such great amps.
15. I use two of the 4 78 Precisions I have all the time 1 of the others I only take out of its case for recording and its 99% mint The other is waiting for me in New Zealand-at least I hope it is (my mate's in Christchurch!) Still, I'm not really fussed about using them live (except the sienna burst one-as I said, I like to keep that in reserve for recording). The reasons I dont mind taking them out and using them as the workhorses they were meant to be, are: A) I got them for how they sound and how well they play (if I'm honest-looks were a factor too) B ) Even if they pick up a bit of mojo along the way, they will still be valuable in a few years time- collectors are always about!
16. Tina Weymouth from Talking heads was quite good at it. I´d love to be able to play the synth bass properly, but have only had a chance to noodle on one (a Bass Station) a few times
17. My A***g Micro VR sounds amazingly like an S*T and it weighs about as much as an envelope. I feel kind of dirty and ashamed now... did I do something wrong?!
18.
My faith in humanity has been restored.
And mine in luthiery
19. I know the answer to this one: Beedster's 64 P Bass! Or Clarky's 'SID' P Bass! Or a nice early to mid 70's Black/Black/Maple Precision!!! (Noticing a pattern? ) Seriously though, it's all about what you want from it. Tone, vibe etc are all subjective things anyway. Try as many as you can and dont settle till you find what works best for you. If a Squier fits the bill, who cares-as long as it's what blows YOUR hair back! And if money was no object-I'd commision an Ou7shined Pingray!!!
20.
snip- thanks for having a laugh at madical conditions, you're a gent.
Anyone else spot this?!

22.
Hmmmmm...... May not be a good time to put my SVT-CL up for sale........
If I promise to not say it is the peerless, unquestionable lord and master of the universe can I have it?
23.
I'm still at the stage where I need my trousers flapping to enjoy a gig. You just don't get that with a POD!
True, though a few cans of baked beans´ll sort that!
24.
What about Mike Inez, Geezer Butler, Tim Commerford and Jason Newstead?
What about him? Cause If he´s the bloke from that Metallica cover band, who looks exactly like Jason Newsted, then he´ll be doing the same as his ALMOST- namesake and switching from SVT´s to SWR (hybrid) heads and Mesa Boogie cabs when playing live and only using his old Ampegs in the studio then.
Adult literacy might be an option for him!
Physician, heal thyself! Also: "Newsted's statement revealed his departure was based on "private and personal reasons and the physical damage I have done to myself over the years while playing the music that I love."- Must´ve been from lugging all those SVT´s and 810´s around Seriously though, I love my Marshall VBA full rig, but I only ever get to use it at the bigger/outdoor venues-my Ampeg SVT4 PRO and 6x10HLF are more than plenty for most of the clubs and venues we play of late and they sound fantastic-everything an SVT can do tone-wise, with 4 times the power!. Oh and at 100w louder than any all-valve SVT, the VBA400 P**SES on it (SVT) from a great height (2 x 4x12´s are taller than an Ampeg 8x10 anyways ) I´ve owned and tried loads of solid-state,hybrid and all valve amps and while the SVT looks the mutt´s bra (genius), there are loads of better amps out there-not all of them are valve-monsters either! Guess tone and power requirements are all subjective points anyway as are transport and weight etc. I love Ampeg, but couldn´t be bothered getting the 2PRO or SVT CL when I know there´s better amps around! This threat was an entertaining affair, for the most part. I´d definately give it a 3 out of 5, but there were plenty of plot-holes, the main antagonist´s performance was contrived and overdone in many places and there was a lack of overall focus I felt. Still an enjoyable effort, Keep up the good work.
25. As someone who's tried both (I have the Fender one), buy the Fender! Try and get a secondhand one if you can (think Old Horse Murphy has one for sale here on BC) as 550 is a bit much new. But they are GREAT basses!!! I swapped out the pups for SD 1/4lbs, but that's cause I wanted a sound closer to the Mark Hoppus bass (which I later bought anyways). The stock pickups are great though! The Squier is pants! Not dissing Squier in any way at all (am planning on getting a VM Jag soon), they have had some great models lately and their general effort of late has been greatly documented and praised here on BC and other forums! But the Mike Dirnt Squier is awful-based on both the ones I've tried (both Black and White models). Its lightweight (really lightweight!), the frets were like razors and the pickups were seriously weedy and tinny-couldn't hold a candle to the Fender one IMO. I honestly don't think trying to mod the Squier model would be a worthwhile enterprise, as the foundations are all wrong to begin with-kinda like the Squier Frank Bello-looks great, plays lousy. Save a bit and get the Fender, I would suggest. Though again, this is based solely on my own experiences. I would gladly hear from Squier MD owners who have better things to say about them I've put mine out on loan for a few seasons (the girl that has it can't part with it ) But I do miss it around! I wish the Fender one came in the white finish though! There's a thought-get the Fender back and refin in oly white Hope that helps some man Anyways, I'm off to bed-up early to get a train to Dublin to see Blink 182 tomorrow evening, Col
