1. Hi guys. I've got an SVT III non pro sitting here. i know most of the basic stuff about it (from around 91, 3 tube-pre same as SVT II, 200 @ 8ohms, etc) First of all, anyone on here played/own/owned one? What's your take on them? I've had heaps of Ampegs since I started, some great which I've kept - 4PRO, Micro VR etc, some average (a 2009 SVT-VR- hugely disappointed!) and some much less brilliant ones (including the 3PRO which I really hated!) and I have to say, I honestly LOVE the tone. it's big and very, um, AMPEG-y. It's certainly got enough power for what I'm doing, going through a 410HE (from the same year). Having not gotten on with a 3PRO in the past I was very sceptical about this amp, but after a bit of a play, it was obvious that this is a totally different animal altogether. granted-it's nowhere near as powerful as my US made 4PRO I know, but it sounds 'big' in that it nails that SVT sound. I really like the 1odb Eq slider- gives a serious volume boost, not that it needs it-I've not had the vlume past 9/10 O 'clock! .... But that's me, anyone find the same/opposite etc? Second thing is: anyone have a copy of the manual? I got everything except that... Cheers Colin
2. Hi guys, I picked up a bargain the other day an Ampeg SVT III and 410he (both 90's made) for about 450 pounds. I had a 3-PRO a few years ago (didn't get on with it) and i have a 4-PRO back in Ireland (which I love), but the SVT III is a beast of an amp. So much SVT goodness! The matching cab is also great-never owned a Classic 410he before but always liked them. (had a pair of BSE 410HLFs - they were great!) Only issue with the rig is that the attenuator knob for switching on or off is missing from the back of the cab. I'd like to be able to switch it on and off depending on what kind of room I'm playing so... Anyone got any ideas how I can get in there? Does anyone have a replacement they want rid of? Any help would be greatly appreciated guys Cheers, Colin
3. How bout a Devi Ever Ruiner (barely used for 3 hours) and cash? Downside I'm in NZ, but if you wanted to talk postage...
4. Emmett is a great guy to deal with He bought a set of 73 Precision pups, pots, wiring and pickguard from me. He was great to deal with from start to finish (even though we are both at opposite ends of the globe NZ-Scotland). Another reason why BC rocks - fantastic, friendly users. The lads from Cork always stick together! Cheers mate. Colin
5.
Being a massive Lynott fan I can safely say that ive never seen, or read, or heard about Lynott playing a sunburst bass. As far as i know he played the legendary black fenders, the red one (thats pictured earlier) and a BC rich bass (although that might have only be in the video for "do anything you wanna do") and an Ibanez Roadstar (i think) That doesnt say that he didnt own one - according to many books, his first ever bass was a Fender P Bass given to him by Brush Shiels, but nobody ever said what it was. However, the Phil Lynott Exhibition in Dublin bought out this gem..http://www.flickr.co...gle/5588262767/ but i doubt it would ever be for sale, and theres no history behind it - it could just have been a donated bass for the exhibition that was signed. I guess though, that if you do the usual checks, and it seems fine - then ignore the history and offer what you think its worth, and go from there.
He used an Ampeg/Dan Armstrong too
6. Would you consider shipping to New zealand?
7. Postage to New Zealand an option?
8.
Thanks basshead56. I would have loved it if you'd said you remember a SB Precision but still interesting information. Frank.
Hi Frank, Yeah mate, wish I could've been able to verify that for you-as an avid 70's Precision and Thin Lizzy fan, I'm right there with you!
Yeah, Redding used to live in Clonakilty, a stone's throw from Skibbereen...as a teenager I'd see him lurking around pubs trying to bum weed from kids...
My mum's from Castlehaven (down the road from Noel's old place- she used to go and see him play on Friday nights) There's a signed "West Cork Tuning' LP at home somewhere too I'm sure. Jeremy Irons also owns a castle around there too- West Cork- like Hollywood, but with more hippies! Kinda homesick now.haha
9. That was on Adverts.ie about 3 years ago for 150 euros! I missed it. gutted.
10.
Wasn`t a Ibby Blazer his main back up bass? Sure I read something about it a couple of years ago. I suppose with a touring "name band" there could be a number of back ups. Would be nice to own something Phil played though. Jez
+1 Definately a blazer. I played with a drummer a few years ago who had done a wee bit with Phil in his younger days (3 or 4 sessions I think). He had a photo holding 2 of Phil's basses in his house, another with Phil and another with Philomena (Phil's mom) from a few years ago. I definately remember the blk/maple/mirror Precision and the Blazer from that photo. Would be sweet if the P Bass was the real deal though. hope it goes well
11. Hi Steve, Yeah, I could get one new, but they cost waay more new here than back home. And no one's got a second hand one here-the market's rubbish down here, hence why good gear is so rare and expensive.
12. Any chance you'd consider selling the Terror seperately and ship to New Zealand?
13. [sup]Thanks Gareth.[/sup] [sup]I'm more stuck on impedance issues at the mo re the Vs212. I have seen an LB212 but it's a little out of my price range at the mo.[/sup] [sup]Pity that the Vs212 isn't 50lbs- I could do with less weight in my amp set up.[/sup]
14. EDIT Now decided to go with a Terror- if I can find one. Anyone got one they would consider parting with and wouldn't mind sending to New Zealand? I am considering an Ashdown Vs212 to go with it. They look great and I'm a fan of 12's, since I've owned my 2 Marshall VBC412's. Also, I see that the Vs212 is twice the weight of the LB212 - can I at least add castors (are there holes for them already on there?) Thanks guys Colin
15. How bout postage to New Zealand?
16. Some pics taken earlier, after taking her apart to get ready for the painting: http://s1174.photobucket.com/albums/r609/col_keane/
17. Thanks for those Mark! I've allready checked and the PG will fit fine! Am thinking an American Vintage brass bridge will fit the bill nicely and have found a source for the right knobs, pup/bridge covers etc- good prices too. I'll post some pics in the next few days, once I actually get round to starting!lol Cheers Colin
18.
I can't help you as to whether the 77 pickguard will fit, but I do have a 73 Precision (the sunburst one in my avatar), so if you need any details checking, or any photos sending through, give me a shout.
That would be brilliant! I'd love some close-ups of the bridge and hardware.
19. Hi all, Have recently got me mits on a 73 Precision that's seen better days. Because she's not mint or even close, I've decided to have a go at getting her closer to what I've been after for a long time- an early 70's black/black/maple beast with a few mods. Currently, it's got a faded oly white finish with plenty of mojo, shell pg, frets are good, non original brass bridge, original pups (tone pot's a bit crackly) and recessed knobs (now identified-from a Telefunken radio) Pics here: http://s1174.photobucket.com/albums/r609/col_keane/ See? looks fairly abused, doesn't it? So... I'm going to strip her down to the wood and have a mate (who does a lot of paint jobs) refinish in black. Tick I already have a b/w/b pg from a 77 I didnt need lying around. Tick I'm considering popping in a set of Duncan SPB-3's in place of the original pups. Tick (they're in the post!) replace the current bridge and knobs (?) Tick (also in post) also add a thumbrest and chrome covers. My questions/issues I need help with... What sort of bridge can I put on that will allow the cover to fit on (the current one won't) and where to get it? (going with a vintage Fender one) Any help anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Colin
20. Really keen on a Terror now. Any chance you'd ship to New Zealand?
21. Well, the gods have spoken. picked up the MH Precision the other day. It was immaculate, save for a tiny ding/chip on the upper bout by the strap pin. Sounded wicked-as they do! The guy even threw in a 30w amp, cables, strap and Hercules stand. So went to the place where the DC was a-hangin' on the wall and asked about a trade. The owner offered me the DC and 250 NZD (125quid)- result!!! I was not going to argue, considering I only paid less than 200 quid for it! Now, I know he'll get a fair bit more for it when he re-sells it, but I'm not bothered: I've got a great deal- an 'always wanted one' bass for abot 75 quid!. He chucked on some new Dunlop strings, polished it up and off I went on my merry way-straight home to plug her in and crank it! I LOVE the Danelectro DC, it's light, has a super-thin and fast neck and looks amazing-loving the cheap plastick stack knobs, one's black with white cap, the other's the opposite-classic! Oh yeah and the best bit, it sounds fantastic-the EXACT sound I was after for what I'm doing down here at the mo! I'll try and get some pics up soon. Thanks to all you guys for advice-as always, it has been greatly appreciated
22. Hi guys. First off, Merry Christmas to all of you here on BC, hope you had a great one! Ok, so I am currently in the 'basses are like buses' situation again. I'm in the market for a bass I can bring with me if I have to head overseas to OZ, and not worry too much if something happens to it. I just bid on (and won) a Mark Hoppus P Bass in Seafoam Green- the older model, not the new one, thank god (I just mean the new green colour sucks, I'm actually quite keen to try the new one to see what the pup rotation sounds like!). Anyways, no sooner have I forked out than a walk into the local music shop puts me in two minds again! Hanging on the wall, as part of a trade in, a korean reissue Danelectro DC in silver sparkle! Now, i paid very little money for the Fender (198 pounds to be exact!), so im not skint, but I can't own both for a number of reasons-transport when i leave NZ being the biggest argument against it-as I already have a 77 Precision and a Victor Bailey Acoustic to worry about. I already have a Pink MH sig P back in Ireland, and I LOVE the sound of it, plus it's the lightest bass I own! Have done 100s of gigs with it and never had an issue. BUT....... I have always wanted a DC! They look and sound so unique! And I have been looking for one for bloody ages. AND In typical fashion, I find one in a shop in the middle of nowhere when all I went in for was some picks-not even considering another GAS-attack! So Poll Time: What would you guys go with a) keep the Fender trade it in for the Dano c) none of the above! Thanks in advance guys, and have a Happy New Year! Col
23. Still for sale Wayne?
24. Hi Chris, Still for sale? Any chance it could be shipped with the neck off to New Zealand?
