I have one. And I adore it!!! Took about 8 years to find one that didnt cost the world. Ebay, here abd a bunch of other places- then found one in the second hand section of the music ahop in my new home town on the other side of the world. I've ended up getting a set of Gretsch Blacktop pickups (the same ones that come in the Electromatic basses out at the moment). The rings are wider than the current stock pickups but approx the same length. The pickups themselves are smaller than the stock ones. I don't have time to fiddle with the soldering iron or any potential routing that may be required as I'm flat out with work and home renovations so have turned it over to a tech mate of mine. He reckons it should be a fairly easy replacement job so should have it tomorrow (all going well) Will post pics/results ASAP

I love mine. 2006 CIJ Hot Rod Red with matching headstock. Lovely passive tone with everything cranked and both pups engaged. Active does buzz a fair bit but there is a simple solution - copper tape the crap out of it and shield the pickguard! I generally prefer the passive tone but there is something nice about the active one too and I usually don't dig active Fenders (my 90's American Deluxe Precision sounds amazing too though!). The Jag really does cut through in active mode without sacrificing that thundery Jazz style goodness! I have no idea what the pickup spacing style is though. I had a Squier VM Jaguar for a bit and I honestly can't believe I sold it - I miss it terribly! It was my favourite bass to gig with - perfect tone every time from the stock PJ pickups. Gutted it went but couldn't justify two Jags - I'm no Prescott (but I am becoming a fat b*st*rd)! I can't wait to hear what the new American Standard Jags will be like!!!

Hi guys, Just looking at tidying up my board a bit - have a PT1 coming my way on Monday. At the moment I use a VT Bass Deluxe, TC Polytune, Boss RC2 Looper, Markbass Super Synth all powered by a T-Rex Fuel Tank Jnr. I'm also wanting to add an EHX Qballs and Steel&Leather or an MXR compressor Anyway, it's currently set up as follows: Bass Guitar - TC Polytune - VT bass (input 1) - Markbass SS in effect send and return of VT Output of VT Bass - Boss RC Loop - Front input of amp. I have opted to use the front end of the amp as I generally prefer the VT as a preamp - it suits every rig I plug into and sounds huge every time! (especially useful in venues where the backline is provided or i can't use my own and I'm presented with a sub-par combo that's seen better days!) I am probably going to place the Qballs in the VT's effects loop with the Super Synth, but where should I place the compressor and loop station? After VT and before the amp as it is now? I REALLY want one! I've been in touch with them on FB to see who is supplying them here in New Zealand. Waiting for a reply from their Aussie supplier... May just have to get the folks to get one from Thomann and get them to chuck it in with the rest of my stuff when they send it out here

I guess they look a bit like the old blueline b2 &.b3 combos form late 80's/90's. Still, given the iconic looks of the SVT and portaflex stuff, you'd have thought they might have made these a bit more 'Ampeg' looking Fender's taken the Rumble and made look like an actual Fender amp, why can't Ampeg do the same with their entry level models...

[/quote] Knocking over something easier - an armored truck maybe? Have you tried any 70's models? Some are OK, some are terrible and make you question the QC they had back in the day BUT some of them play brilliantly, look the part (in terms of vintage) and are relatively inexpensive by comparison. You can always mod the pickups to make them sound a bit more 'old school' if required and add chrome covers, thumbrests or a tort pg for aesthetics. I have quite a few 70's Precisions. A couple are totally mint and 100% original (both are 78's), the others have had some mods done in places (either by me or the previous owners). My black/maple/black 73 looks really 'vintage' because the maple neck and headstock have got that lovely aged amber look you get in an instrument that has been in its fair share of smokey pubs over the last 40 years! I usually get a few questions about it when I take it out gigging. Plenty of early to late 70's P's on here in the for sale section. Have a look around Good look on the quest - nowt like getting that first vintage Fender! PS: If cash is a real issue, check out the Squier Classic Vibe 60's Precisions. Hi guys, Just thinking of replacing the stock fender jazz pickups with Kent Armstrong lipstick style ones, just cause, you know, there isn't enough blingy chrome on these basses already... Anyone have any thoughts on these pickups?

I like them all! As long as it cuts through and gives me enough bottom end. Mostly using 10's live these days but when I (rarely) get the chance to use it live - nowt beats the Marshall VBA 8x12 rig!!! I've had good and bad experiences with 15's - owned an amazing Trace Elliot 2x15 that could alter the Earth's spin on its axis and my old humble Rumble sounded great every time but have also had some flabby ones too - house backline in some venues we played in featured some awful (older) Ashdown combos, a pig of an old Laney head and cab and what I'm sure was a GK stack (but the logos were missing). A good pre and DI set up solved most of that I reckon it is much less complicated these days, as most of the modern stuff is far better engineered.

I had the exact same problem when I got one new, back when they first came out. I got mine from the US about 3 weeks after they were launched. I really wanted a 51 style P Bass with split coils and this ticked all the boxes! I was incredibly chuffed with it, except for this strange dull E (and a bit on the A too) issue. After a bit of a look-over it turned out to be the incredibly cheap plastic nut that came with it from the factory. Shame really as otherwise, these are stunning basses for the money! The addition of a bone nut and a proper set up solved the problem immediately and it even improved the bass' unplugged tone! If you're a bit strapped, try a proper set up and new strings first and if the problem persists, look at replacing the nut further on. This should solve the problem!
