1. I Play with a keyboard player who's iPad app scrolls the chart at the correct bpm, it does everything, but I fear if it failed or has an issue , the keyboard player would not cope without it.
2. Can't help point you to tabs, but enjoy , there are some great baselines there.
3. I just brought a bassass for a build project, but Ive never brought a replacement bridge for any stock bass I've owned. If a bridge, which is effectively a piece of metal with few parts, on a new bass (for aurguments sake lets say which costs £500 and over) is not as good as current engineering and knowledge allows then it should be, can't be anything wrong with a fender or similar stock bridge surely? I don't also get the sustain thing, a bridge is a solid lump, attached to a solid body, couldn't get more solid, surely beyond the string you can only dampen or mute, not increase sustain ? Just asking
4.
I've joined the club! JHS Vintage Tony Butler Signature.
Hope it sounded as good as it felt without the amp when I looked at it earlier . Happy new bass day
5.
BUT ........ always make sure that first song is easy to play. Most of us will never have the luxury of being driven from hotel room to gear filled warm up room to stage. More like freezing fire escape to knuckles rapped by door frames to stage. We need to warm up just as much as the top pros so don't take on complex stuff too early. In fact - that's one of the best tips I can give anyone based on my experience.
Yeah I meant tight and confident , as in one that's well rehearsed and therefore easy to play
6. Always start with a song thats tight and confident If you save your favs or what you believe are the crowd pleasers till last then keep an eye on the time and what the organizers are doing, if you get cut short you may wish to drop a few before the end songs.
7. It's very interesting to read that 2 people in this thread alone have scrapped thier plans to buy a real Ric due to the company image not impressing them, it won't take longvforvthis to spread around the bass playing community, they really should take note.
8. The desktop site is great on my iPhone for scanning the site
9. Won't be long before there is a cash for review scandal involving a mod and undercover telegraph journalist posing as a marketing executive from a well known amplification manufacturer.
10. It must effect the market, I for one have got through loads of 2nd had gear on here and passed it back on, but I also think the site can create gas and cause people to upgrade and buy new, be hard to see who it hinders or helps from a marketing point of view
11.
Well I didn't realise that playing a Fender P in a covers band put you in Chav territory.
Depends which other threads or sites you visit , just a bit of fun though
12. One of the best backing bands of all time.
13. Theres no fixed rules for membership, just state what qualifies you or excludes you I'm in based on playing a Fender Precision in a Covers Band, and shameless with it.
14. It's why I love listening to live versions of songs, they are rarely perfect, but sound so good that way
15. Dysons are really Hoovers aren't they
16. Oh sorry, only just came across it and not seen a thread before
17. This may not be your thing, but there is a whole load of artists / songs filmed at this location on YouTube, just going through a few now ...
18. Loads ,well known like the likes of Stephen Stills and more less well known like Jonathan Wilson.
19. Does this all mean it's still legally ok to play in a covers band?
20.
For some people playing with the components of their bass is as much fun as playing it.
Totally agree, I referring to those who believe its a must though.
21.
I'm just intrigued how so many of us say we need 5/6 strings, then we see the real, widely respected greats with 4 strings on a bog-standard bass
Because Jaco or JJs singer never said, I can't sing that can we play that a tone lower and still keep the baseline sounding the same with the low notes. Seriously though, I can't see why so many people think a standard fender or similar basic passive bass would need upgrading if the player is happy with it.

Decal or No
If you like the bass, be proud of its maker.
This really. I have the opposite problem, I'm making a p/j and have a USA neck with genuine fender decal, I really want to paint the headstock as the body and put my own letters on it after . But who cares really, if income to see you play, I'm more interested in if your band is good than if your logo is real
23. Alot of people seem to take a break during thier life from music, I did when I got fed up of going out gigging (not music) we all love music on here but it's hard to get the balance right at various stages of life, if you are not enjoying it change something, being sure to give notice so you don't let others down. Not sure what you mean by life on the road? But if petrol money is an issue, then the gigs aren't worth agreeing to
24. Do I reckon I could write , or be part of a team to write and arrange a song that could be a top hit , yes, I believe I can and have done Would it be a hit in reality, NO of course not My ego would like to think its because you have to be right place right time, right contacts etc. to have succeeded or succeed from now, maybe thats a small part of it . With regard to muso's stating they are above this, most top commercial acts, at least a few decades back, almost all started out as talented parts of great acts, then saw the commercial dollars in writing pop, those ranging from Lionel Richie to Gary Numan and many others are open about that fact and don't try to pretend otherwise.
