1.
Recently bought this SUB5 from a member sans pick guard. I'm not usually a tort fan but went for it this time as I think it really works with the Matt black The five people who've seen it all said yuck! I love it which is all that matters but wondered if I've broken some little known bass law
I had a mate - Spadge was his nick - who, in a drunken stupor, dropped his freshly bought pizza onto the pavement. He bent down, and scooped the toppings back onto the pizza base as best he could, and then proceeded to eat it anyway. It looked *a lot* like that scratchplate
  2.
I don't understand why you'd go to the trouble to learn an instrument, buy gear and rehearse songs with a band and then not do gigs
It's a load of fun. Which is a tremendous value - playing for the joy of it.
  3.
It does indeed. Funnily enough I sent my black/white/black pickguard to SimS custom shop last week asking them to replicate in plain black. Although in red, I have them same type of finish on my Elwood.
I was going to buy a B/W/B plate - are you flogging the one you're having replaced?
  4. The back of this Elwood looks just as fabulous as the front.
  5.
Very nice - was that a standard plain black pick guard?
Certainly is - looks the part on this particular finish.
  6.
And I didn't haggle - seems a bargain as it is, frankly
You're *not* Scottish then
  7.
Can only agree - it is lovely. OK, just placed my order. Classic Jake 5 string, black with black pickguard, birdseye maple neck/board and headstock plus carbon rods. Delano pups, Chrome Hipshot B bridge and Ultralite tuners. Luminlay side dots. Should have done this 2 years ago!! Excitement mounts!!
Did you order directly from Public Peace or via Bass Direct? And I don't know if anyone else considers this, but did you haggle? I'm Scottish of course, so I have the genetic imperative that demands haggle as a matter of instinct.
  8. My Elwood 4p with its new East J-Tone pre-amp - photographed yesterday.
  9. My Maruszczyk Elwood 4p in Black burst. It's a 30" scale and weighs in at a delightfully pleasing 3.47Kg Although it's not really a 4p anymore because I added an East J-Tone pre-amp. It sounded awesome before the change, now it's awesomer. I hope this post works as I need to find a way to host then post my music photographs all over again. Fingers crossed...

  11. £2.00 for a tuner? I bought it. I'll now give it to our guitarist - and grimace knowingly at his atonal approach to tuning.
  12.
Is this the one I saw for sale on eBay a little while ago?
the very one.
  13.
Cool bass. What pre-amp did it come with?
The standard, factory fitted passive - it's very useful, but I've long preferred active circuitry for the endless faffing it facilitates.
  14. My first Maruszczyk - Elwood 4p 30" scale in black-burst satin. It's a joy to play. And what a slap tone it delivers! The photo is from their website, but it's also the bass I now have. Delighted! The pre-amp will be swapped out for an East J-tone 01, and I'm going to exchange the bridge pickup for a stacked J-type, but I'm not sure which one will bring me closer to a Musicman style humbucker in sound. Any suggestions for that would be very welcome indeed.
  15. My current Fender Starcaster with some fetching Sandberg control knobs.
  16. Fender American Deluxe I had a while back.

A final thought - bass is better than sex. And, if it's not, you're doing it wrong.
  19.
... but not all the time. I have 5 basses and fall in and out of love with each of them at times. Sometimes I can play them all in an evening and find there's not one that I like much at all. Am I alone in this? Am I peculiar?
I suffered this for decades. Until I found Sandberg. Now I can't fall out of love with at least one of my basses.
Its like a big guitar... generally played by the least cool person out of a group of mates that decide to form a band.
I ended up being a bass player because the first time we ever went to a recording studio someone had to play bass. The other guitarist had a Fender Strat (I didn't) so that was it - demoted undemocratically because I had a sh*tey guitar. I'm still not over it.

Well. I thank you all for the replies, but the SubWoofer riposte from Lowhand is a very (very) obvious winner of sorts. Even though there was no competition. And to clarify the outcome from my original question - I ended up getting a Starcaster.

Hi - any help much appreciated.
  23. I loved it - not least the subliminal political rallying call to the hoi polloi for the final showdown with the army of robot angry badgers the guy is building in his bunker. Brave!
  24. I just bought a multi FX unit from Andy and not only is the unit exactly as described, I'd like to add that Andy is a very sound guy to deal with indeed. Package arrived in perfect nick and absolutely bang on time - ideal in all respects. Cheers, Andy, and thanks again!
