1. Programmable drum machines. Never late, always in time, no jazz moments (unless told), never complain - will even humanise themselves a wee bit if you want to play fast and loose with groove danger. They don't drink, don't do drugs and never have to explain away any dodgy UKIP leanings. And they don't have clatty habits or stink like, well, a sweaty drummer. Logic X is host to some seriously loveable drummers.
2. Hi guys - my partner has finally decided it's time to learn* to play bass (she's 61) and her perception that I can be impatient, means she would prefer to learn via an iPad app. Of course I'll be there to encourage her, but I haven't a clue which app might be best for the task at hand. Any suggestions most welcome - thanks. *Articles in the press recently - about how playing and instrument is the best thing you can do to aid brain health - are the source of her motivation.
3. I wonder how many people realise just how devilishly good these basses are? Those Decola pups deliver tones of genuine beauty.
4. My new Sandberg California II TM4 Gold Top. It's a joy to play and sounds even better than I'd hoped for - sensational basses. Premium quality, perfectly set up via their PLEK system and all that at a decent price. I absolutely love it.
5.
I'd contact Sandberg direct. They are very good on customer service. Delano pickups have been standard in the Sandberg range for a long time, so no reason to assume they are a retro-fit.
The standard pickups are now Sandberg's own - no longer Delano's. I haven't heard them so I have no idea if they are as good/better/worse than the mighty Delano offerings.

7. Would anyone know what gauge of strings Gibson use on these and who makes them? I now have a four and a fiver - so gauges for both would be ideal. Apart from planning for string changes, I'm also trying to work out why the four string is harder to play than the five. There seems to be more tension in the strings, so wobble and bend are more difficult to deliver, and the percussive nature of slap is also reduced.
8.
Great thread! Happy to help anyone with setups, soldering, repairs and a cup of tea in Argyll.
I've sent you a message as I'm in Argyll, too.
9.
EmmettC is in Edinburgh. What problem are you having?
Sorry for the delay in responding - I have a Yamaha Attitude that buzzes/dead notes from about the 15th fret upwards. It also has an action that gymnasts could do their party pieces on. I also have a Fender Jazz std that I just don't use because it's so difficult to play due to poor setup.
10. I searched google for *Derek Forbes bass gear* and found this wee gem with the pickup answers I was hunting for. Thanks!
11. I got a new 5 stringer EB Fireburst yesterday. Wow - about covers it. Those DeCola pickups are something truly special - awesome tone. Coupled with the Babicz and super-low (and buzz free) easy to play action results in a fabulous instrument. It's substantially lighter than my MM Stingray into the bargain - cumulating in a bass of seductive delights so intense that I don't want to put it down. And I love the satin fireburst finish - it looks elegant and feels beautiful to the touch. I am hugely impressed. Although listeners would probably be much less impressed with my ability on a 5r.
12. Anyone offering help in and around Glasgow? I need it
13. The guys on the Faceache page informed that the tool for the job is an 8mm hex/allen key. I'm sure it'll be the very thing.
14. Little Axe at Glasgow's King Tuts Wah-Wah hut - 10 years ago. Mibbe more. I remember Doug Wimbish doing a heavy metal solo on a twelve (12) string bass and that it felt too loud. So loud, in fact, I felt as old as I did uncomfortable and have never been to a proper ( or improper) gig since.
15. Aye - cheers guys, it is the truss rod tool that I'm looking for. I'm not sure why I didn't think of the attitude forum on Face-ache as I'm a bloody member of it!
16. Hi, I just bought one of these basses and I'm very happy with it, but it could do with a few tweaks to get the setup to my liking. It didn't come with a truss rod and Yamaha UK were, well, unable to do anything bar pass me along to Sontec. They told me they'd never had a request for a truss rod before, and would need to check with Yamaha to see if they can even give me information relating to truss rod type and size if they don't have any available. Would anyone know what tool I need and where I might get one? TIA
17. I had a Warwick Streamer LX with the H/S pup configuration - and loved it - but couldn't get on with how it slapped. Or how it hung on me when standing. And I didn't like the oily finish thing or much like the colour of the fretboard and was never a fan of the spade-like headstock. The pup placement/height was also about perfect for finger style play. I've had any number of Fender Jazz basses ('75 reissue necks being my favourites) and loved how they slapped, but was often niggled by a constant search for a fuller. richer tone. Aesthetically they are hugely appealing to me - unless they have a rosewood board with dots, then they are one the verge of m***erdom. An Aerodyne I had for a short time was the perfect weight, but sounded like a Jazz after someone let the tyres down. I want a bass that marries the best of things I like from above. Light, rich in tone with H/S (or H/H and coil splits) that plays and slaps like a Jazz and looks amazing. Maybe something like a Clover Apeiron or a Status Graphite Jazz bass - are there others I don't know of that would deliver what I need?
18. That's really a fight all things considered. It's long been a policy of mine that a band doesn't really count unless at least one member is a genuine nutcase.
19.
the Highlands is an isolated backwater.
Harsh, but kind of true I know because my keyboard player moved to Elgin - driving up via the Great Glen and Loch Ness feels eternal.
20. I wouldn't like any of their bands no matter what tbqfhwy. Phil Collins. Sting. That prick that sings in The Libertines. Mark E. Smith. Morrissey. All of Sham 69. The walloper who sings in Primal Scream. Gary Kemp. Gary f***ing Barlow. Billy Bragg. And there's a special place in hell for Pete Wishart.

22.
Does this price include delivery?
Forgive the largely irrelevant (to this thread) interjection my friend, but I loved the pic in the link. Good to see life is so obviously treating you well!
23. One more voice of commendation for jokolono - I just took delivery of a bass from him and the whole process was swift and stress free. Good man and thanks!
24. I just got my first ever GL jazzer recently and these are amazingly good basses. Rather unfortunately, I'm struggling to play it as a result of a medical thingie at the moment. However, I can't help think that the Geddy Lee tag misrepresents that this is, fundamentally, a superb bass from Fender. As someone who has owned and played around 35-40 jazzers since I began in the 70's, this is simply one of the best. They look fabulous, sound brilliant and play beautifully - the necks a dream! £400 quid's a steal. Good luck with your sale.
