1. Perfect Stangers gig wasn't that good... I think they'd have gotten away with it if Blackmore could play a decent solo instead of that scat he served up on the film..??? Still, it looked like they enjoyed being together a bit more and bares out the theory that constant touring killed the band off early..and a lot of the problems were less about hating each other so much as they really needed a long break..?
 2. We had this discussion when we first got the band together and it centred around the fact that the singer didn't communicate with the audience and we decided that since he could sing well, it was too much to expect him to front it as well...so we resigned ourselves to just being us. We connected well, for all that, but I thought we looked really boring ...but nobody actually told us that.. and it wasn't until a g/f said that we were very watchable, that I stopped worrying about it. If you go down well and people come and watch and get into the band, then you'll aren't doing too much wrong. Conversely, if gigs and attendences are a struggle, then if you haven't got it naturally..and can't quite force it, or conjure it up, best to realise it just isn't working.
 3. Well, the Japan gig with a 'compromised' Tommy Bolin was indeed unwatchable. Next up is Classic Album 'Machine Head' which has some nice stories and they all seem polite and respectful about each other.... so far..!!
 4. That is a tempting colour combo.. But our review suggested the TH500 and S112's were a great pair. The PF500 was good as well so the match is possibly more down to the cabs, IMO.
 5.
Ive came to conclusion that no musicman is for me
That is it for me as well now. I had a MM from the early 80's and it was a bomber bass and went everywhere. Fantastic rock solid neck but I tired of the sound and moved on. In view of the fact that the 80's 4 was so good, I looked at MM5's in the early 90's but I really wasn't sold on the sound ..I'd done my LJ/Quincy thing and so there was no turning back. And still isn't.
 6. Assuming the chassis' needs replacing you are in for a ride, IME. I had to replace PAS speakers and they may do recone kits in the U.S but I don't know how they will transpose over to here. SWR wont tell you much about PAS so you are on your own. I put NEO 2510's in mine and they lightened the cab but I didn't much like the comparison before and after. I think I was in the minority as plenty of others said they liked that swap. The Goliath was a great range of cabs and a NEO 2510 will change it, IMO but only you will be able to say whether you like it... If I had to do it again, I'd take a punt of a comparitive Ceramic and maybe some guys here can help you pick a workable option... SWR's website used to full of archive stuff about chassis and frequency responses, iirc.. but the company ..as they were... went west ages ago.
 7.
Zooming way off topic, but has this ever happened to you?
Yes..relatively recently. I was runnng 2x112's and one cab went down and I didn't hear that straight away altho I knew 'something' was wrong/not quite right. The cab didn't degrade as I would have heard that... it just wasn't there but I still don't know when it went...and as long as you have sound, you aren't going to stop and get on your knees and listen...or at least, I didn't... Must say it wouldn't influence what cabs I took out tho...
 8. I've said this before... only someone like MP can make this all black beauty thing work, IMO. Stunning...
 9. We used the HK Elements with 2 subs and 4 top modules, and it wasn't enough so we moved on. We are a loud band and was used to QSCKW12 tops and it couldn't compete with that. However, we never ran both with the same Mackie mixer and when we started to look at that, we kind of thought the prorblem was less with the Elements and more with the mixer which we moved on. It would work well enough but didn't seem to have the seperation between the channels which is a problem common to those types, IME and feedback was the issue. I would say we had high hopes of the Elements but wouldn't go back and waste time checking them out for our uses, but I liked the compactness of them, they were very simple and quick to run up and the sound decent enough if you were reasonable with your expectations. I would think they would suit an acoustic set-up with a bit of electrification very well...and be great for that in a small pub. Pretty expensive way of doing things..I think a 1200 system with 2 subs would be £2400...-ish but for the sheer size, it could suit some bands. Not for your pub rocker band tho.
 10.
Jim used to recommend separate pre amp and power amps...crest ca7 and ca9 power amps and Demeter pre i think ! I'm sure this amp will be "on the money"....looks different, in a good way!
Which is why I said it would have to be creditable and if he is using those types as the start of his references, which I wouldn't be surpised about, he is right up on the game already.
 11.
My guess is that the DSP is not about modelling classic heads but speaker management.
Yes, indeed.
 12. Broken finger means I don't have to bother with wearing a ring...but I don't think it would work anyway.. I am very sensitive to little things like that and I think it would have to come off when playing
 13.
If that's from the Battle Rages On tour vid, Ritchie just had the raving hump that night. As was his wont. There's a classic moment in the Highway Star solo where he misses a note or something and instead of soldiering on, stops playing, throws a glass of something over jon Lord and walks off stage. I think Morse came along quite soon after.
Not sure...I just remember his playing being so awful on that show...and it was deffo in the 90's..so after his Rio type things...? I must admit I didn't follow him across so lost track of him really but the most recent shows in Switzerland in around 2004 show that Glover and Paice were still great together. I also thought Glenn Hughes had his moments and played great live bass after Glover, but he should have stopped screaming too much.. I'll keep an eye out for the programs... always had a soft spot for Deep Purple...when it is generally a genre I could pass on.
 14.
Surely it's the same with any band - if you don't like what you've heard, you're probably not going to feel compelled to investigate further.
I must admit during my collegue years they were always on someones turntable, somewhere, but I never heard anything to go for. I do think I've got quite an acute ear...so I do hear a lot of things, just not here. I hear music...don't take any notice whatsoever of lyrics, but I think I really do hear.... IMO, anyway.
 15.
Friday night on Sky Arts 1 : two concerts, one featuring the Glenn Hughes, David Coverdale, Tommy Bolin era from Japan, plus a Classic Albums too.
I think I've seen the Bolin one...and whilst I get that everyone else had to play their arses off to cover Bolin and his 'illness'... considering he couldn't play at all..I thought he did remarkedly well. Of course, it was crap and he really needed to hit the ground running, taking over from Blackmore, but I'm surprised it was a 'good' as it was... The thing about the DP programs is how sensible they all sound and how barking Blackmore comes across...?? I loved his playing around about Machine Head, but saw a show with him on it around about 94 and he was awful AWFUL. I couldn't understand how he could be that good and on it and then off the pace. I don't recall him giving up playing, but maybe he did, as it sounded like it. The Swiss shows with Morse showed the band can still put it about....and Paice is still excellent..
 16.
+1 to that! We discount tickets to any "bigger" gigs that we get & give cds away, chat happily to anybody who are interested. I'm always last to pack up my gear due to post gig adrenaline wobbly gob to anyone within range!
One of the reasons why I resent carrying the band P.A..I don't get enough time to chat ..
 17.
I'm a big Berg fan, but the digital interface makes me think of those awful Ashdown abonimations. *shudder* But it's Bergantino, so even though it doesn't ring my bell one jot, I'm sure it's lovely.
I'd also reserve judgement....but only because it is Berg. It wouldn't be too hard to cop the better DSP models and put into a dedicated bass amp but also, as it is Berg, it has to stand a chance of being creditable.
 18.
Lord knows what you must think of classical orchestral music.
I'm amazed at some things that pour forth from you when you post without thinking.. CHALK and CHEESE ...
 19.
Just notes? No heart and soul?
Yes ... wanted to shut down after 40 secs... stayed beyond the 1st chrus to see what the augmentation would do.. I thought I would prefer that treatment...not generally liking 3 pieces anyway.. but still feel the same. As I'm typing this..am hearing the m8 section.. so I gave as much as I could
 20.
I'm what could be classed as a rabid fan of many years' standing, but I can totally see where you're coming from. Fact is, they're an acquired taste. And to be honest, what you say about 'a sequence of meandering riffs, runs and fills' is pretty much how I feel about their current output. I still love 'em, though, which is typical of the loyalty of their fanbase.
Fair enough.
 21.
Maybe they play Rush covers...
no, they wouldn't dare, but some of them get pretty proggy and wonder why it doesn't work. And I say that from the POV that even one or two of the band members of one band wonder wtf is going on with the gtr and keys going off on one. Funnily, I was told..in all seriousness, that they regard themselves as the best band in the county... I think they have been taking too much 'local product' ... as they wouldn't even be amongst the best band in town.
 22.
If there's one thing that's likely to put me off a venue it's a bad load in/out. I don't mean having to fight your way through the drunken door-blockers at the end of the gig (which can happen anywhere), I mean: - loads of stairs, especially narrow stairs; - long walks from the car through multiple sets of doors or across gravel; - having to park on double yellow lines whilst loading; - having to park 10 minutes' walk from the venue; and - a location that becomes drunk-fight central at load-out time. These things can mar an otherwise excellent evening! Oh yes, and being expected to cram into a tiny space next to the main traffic route to a toilet.
All these will disqualify a gig for me... and pretty much damns a local town as far as I am concerned as most or all these apply. Wont play there ...way too much hassle for £50 or so.
 23.
Is it really on the way out where you are? I would consider that fairly normal fare where I am
Not quite the norm where I am... that is classic 80's, but there would/should be more interest in the bar/club type gigs than Bruno etc etc .. Those type of 'fans' only get out for the large beer fests as they are more at home in the clubs/disco's... But thanks, Blue, another thoughtful thread. The attendence dynamic is always fascinating. I am always amzed at the local scene and why certain bands are 'popular'..
 24. If they are pretty, they get 'special' treatment... Seriously, repsond to FB likes and comments so you are on a bit of a personal level already, and if you see a few regulars, then make sure the band get out there and chat... and don't all sit down together during the breaks straight away. Get out and mingle.. and talk to the regulars and then take an opportunity to talk to anyone else. Basically, be open to chat to anyone. I don't think this need be a contrived thing... but being seen chatting might encourage more to come up and talk. I generally find I can't get round to talk to all I'd want to.. but then I talk too much anyway.. I'll always talk to the booker/host..if poss.
 25. I'd get them down into a proper heated/regulated room with no real temp swings and let them dry out naturally. I'd check them each day for neck movement and basically monitor them a lot. I might slacked the strings a tad... but you should see over a few days whether you need to do this... I'd expect a reaction from temps changes from anything made of wood..to a degree... so they would live in a regular room until you can trust the traditional home again. 1st thing...let them dry out and a decent room will do that, IMO
