1.
And what kind of music do you choose to listen to? Care to name some artists? I'm just interested in what floats your boat...
Not really... this willy waving contest doesn't interest me..
 2.
Don't take it too serious. He does it a couple of times every year
Well... these threads crop up every couple of times a year... but yes, nobody takes them very seriously. When I was growing up and listening to all sorts... I gave these guys a wide berth and my first instincts are very good. Nothing I've heard since has changed my mind. They are a typical hobby guys band..no insult intended if people think this applies to anyone, ... where endless and aimless widdle or riffola seems to impress a tad too much... ( ok, that last line might be a bit OOT ) I am not sure their fan base gets much higher than that, tbh. No musician mate I know rates them..or maybe they do, but never mentioned them, otherwise I'd know.. I respect the fact that they have grossed gazillions in their career as everyone knows, that in itself is not at all easy.
 3.
Just because you are unable to perceive it does not mean it's not there. You keep on saying this sh*t and still you know nothing about them.
I'll run that by you when you pile in on the likes of Jesse J, X Factor etc etc etc etc etc etc ...
 4.
Just out of interest what sort of music do you play?
All sorts really. I'll dep covers, I'll do jazz or blues dates and I'll do original projects. I'm basically interested in gigs that look interesting and look after you.
 5.
I disagree about the 'heart and soul' comment but understand how it could have that effect, but I really don't understand the 'no music' comment. Can you elaborate?
Didn't really want to as you can see from the reaction above.... but the whole thing comes over as lacking... a sequence of meandering riffs, runs and fills. I don't see or hear any real musicality either but a decent degree of proficientcy in executing it. So, stuff like this has no real connection for me... there is nothing that grasps ..nothing that captures and nothing there at all, basically. If you took away the presentation and large scale of it..plus the fact that you know it is them, it all sounds like a poor pub prog band. If I close my eyes...or if you just played an audio, that is what I'd think. Music for me must have soul... and stuff like this just doesn't..it is all notes, and nothing else there.... IMHO, of course. Sorry for that...
 6. oooh..get you..?
 7.
There's far too many songs from a 40 year career to try and get a non believer into Rush in just a few pages of a forum. The camera eye undoubtedly is amazing and comes from my favourite album , but it's the instrumentals that for me, show the sheer awesomeness of those guys musical abilities
I don't really know if this track is typical... but I'll wager it is as it sounds like everything else I've heard from them... not that I have dug deep to check them out, tbf. My take is that it is proficient but there is no heart and soul ...and just no music in it. That is about as polite as I can be. Very successful over the years, no doubt.
 8. I think the Ampeg PF does the grindey break up thing very well. That isn't what I'd want from an amp but I'd rather have the amp do it than put a pedal in front of it, myself.
 9. I'd look at pairing the DB with ceramics, and the TKS range...which Barrie holds at BG.. should stand a very good chance of fitting the bill. I thnk TKS and TH500 is a great little matchup so I can't see a DB750 letting up on that. I'd expect it to be a belter...and TKS have great cover options as well.
 10. And the TH paired with S112's will not be lacking definition in the mids and clarity and cut in the highs. In this regard the amp shaded the PF500 which is another decent lightweight amp which works with the S112's, IMO.
 11. The TH wont do my defintion of glassy highs but who'd want that brittleness anyway...!! I could put it there with the presense on my basses but it is a non-sound IMO, and I say that as someone who likes and needs top in their sound. It is just that the TH limits that really glissy frequency naturally and I regard that as unusable and unwanted tonally.
 12.
What should I do? I currently play through a pair 2 x GK Neo 112-ii cabs, nice weight (14kg) nice size (19" rack sits nicely on top & they fit perfectly in our trailer) and decent tone. I prefer 2 have 2 cabs as it means if one cab goes I can keep going. Anyway, GAS got the better of me just before Christmas and I "acquired" a Vanderkley 210MNT cab. A bit heavier, a bit taller (actually slightly narrower) and a brilliant tone! I still think I prefer 10" speakers & know there will be the usual suspects telling me a 15" can sound like a 10" but I've still to hear it for myself. Anyway, question is. Can I get opinions & reasons to buy the 2nd Vanderkley and not just sell the first again? I'm only in a wedding/function band so tight stage spaces & easy lifting are priority. Cheers
I'm not of the opinion that Vanderkley are the arbitor of cabs but I'd definitely get 2x210's if you like the first one so much. There is not doubt they make great cabs and they wouldn't take up so much room as you use a single anyway. 2x210's are going to be able to cover the vast majority of gigs if your amp is upto it.
 13.
I also think if it's a new pub for your band go there on a night a live rock band is playing and check out the scene. Is there a respectable amount of people there and more important are they responsive to the band and are they buying premium alcohol. And I'm not talking about these folks that will nurse a pint ( whatever that is, I hear you guys use that term all the time ) all night. Blue
A new venue will want an established band ..or who ever they book..to pull in people. Any old band can tell the bar how many ppl they will bring but there is really no point saying you expect to bring 50 and bring in 4... That is not the way to start a new gig relationship and tbh, if bands pull those tricks they'll not survive....or deserve to, IMO. Landlords talk so they will swap stories about the best bands and the good pulling bands. The upside of this, ....is that average ability bands can still get gigs if they can deliver the people. One of the worst bands I've seen recently pretty much set the 'record' for attendence at a local pub. Not entirely sure how they did it but the LL was delighted on his 'punt' on a new/unknown band with no track record. The fact that muso type people went to view 'blind' and will very unlikely go again may or may not cost the band. I am tempted to go to their next gig just to see if they pull off those numbers again..
 14.
What do most of you guys think about this food and being fed thing. In some cases when a band member presents a new gig to us he will say "It's 4 hours, $500.00 and we can eat free of charge". Personally, I could care less about food. Just let me know what the pay is. I never eat at gigs either before or after the gig. Blue
Decents pubs..? .the LL will buy you a drink. That is good enough/appreciated as no one drinks much anyway. The LL are like our friends anyway...that is always the goal or aim. Parties/fucntions..? food is provided, always. We may have to ask for it when taking the gig but most bookers will do everything to make their event run well. They will also provide parking space and load-in people/help.
 15. The way we approach this is that we will be an asset to the venue so it is our choice first and foremost whether we want to play such the venue and why. We'll target places and get gigs...it really is that simple. I think it helps if you can convince on your rhetoric but that is your problem. The only thing that we'll consider is that we'll drop the fee as a sweetener or an act of good faith but basically we are going to tell them that our fee will be towards the higher end of what they can/will pay. It is important that you can deliver on your part of the deal as well which is why you need to establish a degree of trust with who you deal with. By the same token you should know what your market can pay and make sure you are able to work to it.
 16. I gig hi end basses as they are my go to basses. I don't play sh*te-holes tho..and neiher am I worried about a ding or two. I'll just get them re-finned at some point. I don't know if that will invalidate Fodera's in any way if you don't have them fixed by Fodera..?? If it did, that might make me think again but since I don't intend to buy one, the issue is moot for me..??
 17. No... I don't find lowering the action loses the tone.
 18. I don't think he is comfortable with the track... so wouldn't be using it as any sort of reference really. He doesn't come in in a natural place...so I think he missed the que.... If this was a one off, then ok, it happens, but I kind of think the way he played that is an indication that he doesn't really know what he is going to do with it.
 19. I've never worried about mixing driver sizes myself..they either work or they don't and if a maker can't match them to suit the same cabs in their product range, I'd suggest they are in the wrong game. I wouldn't have much use for a single 115 myself but have used 210 and 115 together well enough. All bets are off if you mix with other product lines and makers tho.. IMO
 20. If one or two of the guys here see this post I am sure they could suggest a couple of options with the dims you have supplied..
 21.
He might be right, it's why I never refer to myself as a bassist. To me that label is more for guys that play the acoustic upright or double bass. I'm a bass guitarist. Blue
I'm a bass player...I play down the register, same as those guys. Other than that I don't have anything else in common with that sort of attitude.
 22.
Very interested in one of the S212 models but can't decide if additional 6" speaker in S2126 is worth £140. Anyone tried both? I need it for "heavy rock" music. I use distortions/fuzzes a lot.
I've heard the s112x2 deal with hard attack with a pick ( thru a TH500 and PF500 ) and the best thing about that was it is debateable whether you'd need a tweeter on either. Personally, I'd add one at least in one of the cabs. The grind and 'breakup' from the 12 whilst dealing with the mid range was quite unique, IME.. the mids of the s112 are also a secret weapon as you don't have to tune the cab to a hinky mid bias to achieve it. Give Bassgear a ring and see what they have in stock and then do yourself a favour and get down there to hear them,
 23. For tracks like that, just get the count going in your head and make sure everyone else plays to a time.. no free-for-alls
 24.
All the above, but learning how to listen properly is crucial.
This... put the track on and play to it. Keep doing it until you can play the track. If you can't do this, I'd say you aren't upto speed and need to put the time in until you are ready.
 25.
The far eastern stuff is ok, some Japanese yamahas etc but the cheap stuff ain't as good as the "I love my squier" threads would suggest IMO, great if you are happy with it but for me a good USA bass still had the edge and a top end USA clone is in first place.
I'd go with this... subject to playing the individual bass as I still don't trust them. Been 'quite' impressed with the few American Deluxe J5's I've seen and played but would'nt pay new prices, for sure. That puts them in a completely different market, albeit S/H, but another league bass-wise, IMO. The Jazz and P's still do 90% of gigs, certainly beyond the pub, IME..so they get somethings right for a lot of people
