1. So who here does? I would imagine that those of you that are professional musicians are earning by playing originals/sessions/both (if I'm not being too presumptious..) but does anyone make a living playing covers exclusively? Or is it just not possible?
2. 10/10 for me. Guessed the Warpaint one and only got The Kinks coz I recognised the drummer and not the bassist...
3.
I used to know their sister, she would always be trying to get me drunk. True story.
You really need to elaborate on this...
4. For any recent converts check out Interstate Love Song, Atlanta, Ride The Cliché and Art School Girl. Impeccable.
5. Yep, that's the one, thanks for putting that up. I think it's my laptop stopping me from pasting links. As you were...
6. The vid is Stone Temple Pilots - Trippin' On A Hole In A Paper Heart (isolated rhythm section) but for some reason my effing laptop is not allowing me to post it from youtube (nor can I paste links into my posts...) Whatever - youtube it and enjoy guys.
7. What's happened to the video then? Ahh forget it, delete thread please...
8. Found this earlier, what a tight player. Always loved his playing and tone, great melodic lines and sense of space. If I could be half as inventive as him I'd be happy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8yrUo3wliw
9. +1 for Our Lady Peace. Naveed is in my top 10.
10. He did me a 4-ply tort P guard for £20 a couple of years back.
11. Just been browsing, saw this: http://www.ebay.com/...l-/170727370622 $140 is equivalent to about £82. Mine is now for sale, if anyone is prepared to pay that much for one...
12. I'd have one like a shot. Schecter have an excellent reputation for their QC, and I'd choose this over a MIM Fender any day.
13. I have a MK1 MB210 combo with a metal grille but I want to replace the grille with one from a MK2 combo (cloth) to match my 210 extension cab. Can't find one anywhere. Does anyone know where to source these from? GK themselves don't sell them as a replacement item, although I would have thought they'd be one of the things that gets damaged frequently... Anyone got any ideas?
14. Thanks chaps. There are no luthiers as such down here (I'm on the Isle of Wight) but there are a number of repairers/techs who should be able to do the routing for me - that's something I'm not going to attempt, not even on a VM Squier.
15. I have someone to do the routing for me, it's more a question of which parts to buy. I already have a pickup, just need to choose the pot and jack socket.
16. Hi all, I'm going to get a jazz pickup (bridge) installed on my P-bass and was just wondering if anyone had any advice/recommendations for a pot and (side-mount) jack socket with plate. I know nothing about these things, so feel free to fill my head with info... Fanx.
17. What happens to your basses once you've finished them? Are you making them for clients or do you keep them for yourself? You've said before that you're not a luthier by profession so I'm assuming you have a stash of these beautiful instruments at home....
18. Maybe his hearing is going, but I haven't seen a recent video clip where his Kingbass sounds good, the audio always makes it sound really thin. I do prefer his 80's sound, but I also love the sound of the Alembic on the Guaranteed Live video.
19. 4 days of peace, love and Metal Up Your Ass.
20. I've also had a VMJ, good bass for the money, but I found the pickups to be fairly wooly sounding (the DD's on my Squier VM P bass were worse - they're the first thing you should replace IME).
21. Not going. I'm a big fan, but the Sirens EP had about three good tunes on it, and I've seen them quite a bit since 2001, so no more "knackered old hits" for me thanks. It's a shame, because if MK put a bit more effort into coming up with new material I think I'd be more likely to buy a ticket. But he makes his living from touring and not record sales so I can hardly blame him for milking his back catalogue. Still my favourite bassist ever though.
22. I like the look of that, but that headstock looks like it could do with being trimmed down a bit.
23. I'd be really surprised if Metallica played Glastonbury. When asked if he would ever book the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Michael Eavis was quoted as saying that "heavy metal has no place at Glastonbury". If he thinks the Chili's are metal, Metallica have no chance.
24. Next year maybe? 20th anniversary of "...Morning Glory".
