1.
Band fans should try and get their hands on a copy of the box set 'The Band; a Musical History....some really great, rare tracks with the Hawks, some grainy, but interesting film footage on the DVD and some really good photos in the book.
Got it. Essential stuff!
2.
I'm sorry that you can't find me. My Bassworld/Basstalk/Basschat User name is obbm. Yes I've been here for a long time. My Ebay Username is bassic-bits. Try following the links in my signature.
Thanks. I thought it might be you but wasn't sure if your username was because you really liked the cables (I'm guessing you do anyway!?) or because it was actually you. Next time I buy cables I'm happy to keep it in the family and will check you out . The Ebay search function was confused by the lack of a simple "-" character.
3. I appreciate that this thread may dry up a bit quicker than the Mark King or Flea thread but I think it's awesome that one of my genuine bass heroes is being discussed. I recently picked up his 70s self titled solo album on EBay for £21 that's rarer than Hen's teeth. It sounds like a natural continuation of the last couple of albums by The Band.
4. Well I can't find OBBM or Bassic Bits on EBay. I assume it's this link http://www.bassic.co.uk/ ? I don't know a lot about cables other than an old band mate who used to work at a hifi store taught me not to skimp on cables. I tend to use high quality expensive cable and often unbranded ones designed for bass and figure I can't go too far wrong with that philosophy
5.
Plug in P or J, play. Thats usually it. I dont like having lots of average options and a few good ones. I just like a few REALLY good tones.
I'm pretty much the same. Just centre the EQ on the amp and tweak it once I'm plugged in. I guess it's easier with the passive basses
6. I genuinely believe the Classic Series Fender (usually MIJ) are simply awesome basses. I would recommend anyone try those before buying anything else. Streets ahead of the MIM standards and serious rivals to even good MIA's
7.
Ampeg AUB-1 basses come up every so often, but you can buy a new repo from this guy http://www.xstrange.com
And Eastwood do a copy that I have often wondered about too http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Eastwood-Airline-EUB...=item5635105e55
8. What with the postal strike I'm a bit reluctant to send mine over right now but as you are a regular poster I'm happy to lend it to you when things calm down a bit more if you like. It's must see stuff. Here's a clip Danko is one of my favourite bass players. I love The Band and he was stunningly bang on. They all were
9. Ampeg AUB-1 I believe. Rick is awesome and his bass tuition DVD is worth it for Rick alone. He clearly had a drink or two before to steady his nerves
10. Occasionally, more so if I am swapping to different instruments. I had one gig where I went on to a mandolin and I suddenly forgot every chord shape I'd learnt!
11. They are great on acoustic instruments & I see them almost universally used in folk & blugrass. I use them on my mandolin & banjo but I sometimes have to reposition it a few times when tuning the double bass
12. Having played one for 20yrs it's what I always come back to. My 2 cents: 1) I've only recently started to fully appreciate how much tone you can actually get from such a simple set up. But yes. 2) Not especially, just got a bit weighty in the late 70s on some models 3) I've seen them cheaper but that's fair 4) No not really but always try before you buy! Precision or not. 5) Yes & a gig bag with many of the others. I really rate the MIM Classics & I'm genuinely amazed they don't get raved about more on these pages.
13. Awful situation but I too would cut your losses. I had a mate bust a tuning peg on one of mine in the early 90s. He's coming over tomorrow - didn't pay at the time (or since), I just don't lend kit to him these days

15.
I find Watford Valves to be the best. they test tubes in a ridiculous ammount of ways and you can garauntee fast freindly service.
I agree on Watford Valves
16. I love my wife and part of that love is based on the fact we would never but such conditions like that on each other
17.
Aren't they 30" ?
No, I can confirm 100% that it's 34"
18. I bought the same bass this week & love it. Loads of tone & feels like a tricked out jazz
19. The earlier ones looked really fake up close but I'm seeing more in the shops that look better done. I think Fender MIM is really good once you get past the standard range.
20.
brilliant. A good shop. maybe add something to your first post so that the fact you solved the problem comes through to ppl reading randomly.
I did, I edited the thread title but fair point. I'll re-edit so it's clearer
