Interesting review Rabbie, I'd seen the bass before but think I am happy lugging mine around as is - an opinion that occasionally changes at the end of the night!

I rehearse in a factory during the evening and I must confess my endpins seem to last all of about 3 rehearsals due to the concrete flooring so I'm reading this thread with interest

Somebody clearly not afraid to play the note of C on a very nice looking bass

The Bass Doc on here would do it, I'm sure but can't help you on an original to trace

I had a Korean Squier back in the 80s and I recall it was very playable with a good neck. I'd always recommend them although mine must have gotten sold on at some point in the mid 90s

Leather on instruments has been around for years - Elvis. Waylon Jennings etc but tends not to work on bass. I had a guitar phase a few years back that resulted in me getting a tele made in the Waylon style leather. It looked great. When I returned to bass I had a leather pickguard made for my 51 p bass and it looked awful. Superbly made, it just didn't work

My first purchase in years was the Squier 50s P bass and I love it. I've owned several £1000+ basses and I can't believe how much fun you can have with a cheap bass. I was going to mod it but actually once I changed the strings and had it set up it plays so well the only mods were cosmentic. [attachment=145002:LoungeAug13.jpg]

I think the phrase "patience grasshopper" spings to mind. It took a while but was totally worth it

The trick with Nitro Mors is to leave it on for ages - I've done two basses with it and it worked a treat.

My Mum. She left some really cool records lying around the house so from an early age I was subjected to classic soul, country & rock 'n' roll

Again with Cinderella Tom Keifer has just released a pretty decent solo album. I flew out to NYC back in February and missed seeing him live by one day. I struggle with his voice (listen to the title track song from "Long Cold Winter" and as the solo climaxes think of Miss Piggy - it'll spoil it for the rest of your life) but he wrote some great songs and played well.

In terms of Britny Fox Dean Davidson is releasing a singer songwriter album this autumn and it's really good I kind of liked Bang Tango (I wouldn't YouTube them now as it is an alcoholic shambles). Guitarist Mark Knight is doing some interesting solo stuff these days though. From these sorts of bands I really liked Faster Pussycat and LA Guns. Mickey Finn from Jetboy is doing some cool Psychobilly stuff with the guys from The Zeros (Cold Blue Rebels). My favourites always were the brits - love (& still do) Dogs D'Amour and Quireboys.

I really liked Too Fast for Love (more cowbell!!!!) and think Motley were a great example of a band who got [b]worse[/b] with every release (ducks for cover!) That said I liked the self titled 1994 album they did with John Corabi which surprised me as I don't really like heavy rock or grunge.

I don't bow at all but Thomann's Gut-a-like vintage strings for me and I was much happier with them than I ever was with the stock ones

I played there when it moved to Charing Cross Road in 1994 but sadly that isn't classic

I think it depends on the audience & the band. My guitarist plays in an Elvis tribute act & they wouldn't get out the venue alive if it wasn't right. I have a 50s rock 'n' roll pub band & I fully intend on us getting away with murder
