  1. Kind of this, doing my job I meet lots of people all the time, I’m never shy of telling people what I do and what I’m offering and what my hobbies are, sometimes it all aligns, sometimes it doesn’t , however, if you don’t tell people that you’ve got a skill on offer they won’t know.
  2. Hats off guys, That is a superb set of tracks , great tunes, production and playing , then of course there's mine Voting is up and ready ...
  3. 2 Great tunes from @Wolframand @Jean-Luc Pickguard ('Lean-Luc' to his friends ) secured a joint victory for September. By virtue of no more than a lightning response to acknowledge his share of the victory, Wolfram got the honour of choosing our October picture, and now is the time to listen through the tunes that were inspired by it. He offered the thought ... "The temptation of the serpent and the forbidden fruit. Or an exquisite dessert at Amazónico, Monte-Carlo. Take your pick for this month's inspiration!" So, that is a lush serving and you can have 3 helpings of vote choices , pick your favourite 3 tracks 1 @AndyTravis Im In after missing last month... And…I’ve embedded it…so NER 2 @Jean-Luc Pickguard My song, "Take A Bite" is told from the perspective of Satan, who has taken the form of a snake. This character from a popular work of fiction represents free thinking and rebellion against those who try to keep people blissfully ignorant and obedient, and wrongly label him as evil due to his defiance. In the song, the snake speaks to someone content in ignorance, encouraging them to embrace enlightenment, knowledge, and self-awareness. 3 @Dad3353 It's tempting, to tuck in, taste the Turkish Tavuk göğsü, try the Tulumba, but... What's that, lurking in the shadows..? 4 @xgsjx It's a parody on a popular type of music, about my own personal experience & how things have changed for me. 5 @Leonard Smalls You know when you're all savoury-ed out? And all you want is cake? Or treacle tart with clotted cream? Or vanilla pannacotta? Or Or pineapple Upside Down pud with custard? Well then you got The Puddin' Blues! 6 @upside downer After a scrumptious dinner everyone orders the Serpent's Kiss for dessert. Sure, it's delicious, and a little venomous, too. Their stomachs will be rumbling ominously for the rest of the evening...oooh, blimey! Has anyone got any Buscopan? 7 Lurksalot I tried to get an upmarket posh lounge sleaze , but it didn't really work , so this is how it came out. 8 @Wolfram An ethereal soundtrack-style musing on the serpent, the fruit and temptation. That's your lot ... and what a bunch they are, Holy Schmoley You WILL enjoy a listen through these Choose your favourite 3 tracks Voting will end at midnight on 31st October so Dive in
  4. Well its been a very busy month, and while the wife is away , I'm doing loads of running repairs and decorating touch ups which has stolen my music time.... having got my excuses out of the way ... I tried to get an upmarket posh lounge sleaze , but it didn't really work , so this is how it came out. I took a few samples off the piano and messed around with them, found a simple drum pattern and then murdered a bassline underneath it all !
  5. Elvis Costello at the Liverpool Philharmonic . they completely trashed the sound , the audience were shouting at him , he was swearing and shouting back , loads of people walked out , and so would I , but Mrs Lurks knee was playing up and she wouldn’t go in the dark. loads complained to the venue staff and they said that Costello insisted on using his own sound rig with the main desk on the side of the stage . An appalling example of a total cock who messed up the sound in one of the best sounding rooms in the country. he made loads of excuses on the socials , but walked off with everyone’s money , twàt !
  6. Guitars on the wall … then the other end are more axes and a bit of the wife’s artistic handiwork 😁
  7. I’ve been to a few , and had a couple lined up in Nottingham at one point …..and shit got in the way 😂
  8. My lad and Grand little lurks live very adjacent , would have dragged them down but I’m gutted that I will be away for a 50th wedding anniversary. I constantly follow this thread to catch some BCers gigs , but it’s not that often I can get to them 🤦‍♂️
  9. I don’t see this as a competition really . I would soon be disillusioned if I thought I was competing against the quality that gets presented here. It’s a challenge , which is to create a piece, yes I try to make it fun or interesting and as good as my time and commitments allow, but I’ve always had aspirations to make music and this little corner of the web is just heaven. help, advice, a bit of pisstaking and a great bunch to share it with.
  10. Try to forget the red light is on. If you are well enough rehearsed it should be a breeze , enjoy
  11. One thing I did pick up on is AI vocals for singing, I’m wondering if that is a thing I could use for my tracks. I do get tired belting out a tune sometimes , and while I’m sure AI won’t get near to my style and phrasing , never mind timbre and tonality, it might be a good starting point if I am short on time for singing a perfect vocal take. yeah OK 😁 I know.
  12. As a completely separate entity to an analog/ samples/Midi and digital instrumentation composition challenge that we currently engage in , it might stand up if there was enough interest in it I guess. I do think there should be a line drawn between a challenge that participants actually compose for, and one where a computer does it all from some written prompts.
  13. I realise your post was to promote debate Douglas, and commented accordingly 👍. It’s not a performance challenge , though the performance can influence and enhance a composition. i use digital piano occasionally, which I can use to set tracks of different styles, add and remove parts then pick chords etc , but it is all based on musical inputs and choices. Something that does everything that could be described as a composition, is obviously not someone enjoying the challenge I’d have thought.
  14. What musical input is required to get an A.I tune ? the challenge is for a bit of fun, but it is for composition , if the composition is being done by a computer, it does seem a bit incongruous to enter it as one’s own. I guess if there is a consensus I can make an addition to the simple rules.
  15. here we GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
  16. Great tunes from @Wolfram and @Jean-Luc Pickguard ('Lean-Luc' to his friends ) secured a joint victory for September. By virtue of no more than a lightning response to acknowledge his share of the victory, Wolfram got the honour of choosing our October picture He offer the thought ... "The temptation of the serpent and the forbidden fruit. Or an exquisite dessert at Amazónico, Monte-Carlo. Take your pick for this month's inspiration!" Ok , that's a pretty lush starter for 10 if you like , which is a bit ironic, as its a dessert , well, rules is rules so .... ✔️ Entries must be <5 minutes and recorded between now and the deadline. ✖️ No illegal samples, copyright infringements or other snide goings-on ✖️ No Bagpipes/panpipes unless they are monogasqueian and played within the sound of the Royal Casino car park ✖️ No voting for your own entry. We'll know. And we'll shame you.. Deadline-wise, we will go for Midnight on the 25th (effectively afternoon on the 26th), I was considering an extra day, but its my brothers twin grand daughters christening on the Sunday, so I will not get the time. A line or two of blurb as usual for the vote thread will be super smashing. Good luck, Have fun
  17. Lean-Luc …OMG , that’s a good one 😂. …. Apologies Moving on , I have the image, I will set up the challenge after I get home 👍
  18. Well done gents , great tunes, first one here with an acknowledgement gets the picture choice 👍
  19. Oooh indeed , tight at the top. a vote splitter is definitely required 👍
  20. That was odd, it was definitely there before, though the input fields were empty. As it's a new computer it only knows recent inputs, and as I typed them , it recognised that I had typed them before, so I must have already done it, I have no idea where it went , how bizarre!
  21. I’ll go and look for it 😂 I know I did it 🤷‍♂️
  22. Well done guys , voting is up ...
  23. This seems to come around quicker every month, but after the congratulations bestowed upon @Jean-Luc Pickguard for his inaugural outright win in August, he was given the honour of choosing our September picture. Thus the picture he has chosen for the month's inspiration is as follows and he muses... "On the way back to London after my regular visits to Torbay, I would always see this sign on the A380 a few miles from Exeter marking the completion of the first step of my journey. It often occurred to me that 'Telegraph Hill' sounded like it might make a good topic for a song." Here are your entries, please choose your favourite 2 and tick the boxes accordingly 1 @Dad3353 I was waiting in the car, listening to a classical music station, when I heard a piece that brought with it visions of this picture. It's heavily inspired by the Beethoven concerto (Opus 19...) I heard, but using a maximum of elements relating to either Up or Down. 2 @Leonard Smalls I done one too three! Not sure what it's got to do with the pic, but this is what came out! 3 @Jean-Luc Pickguard In my song, Telegraph Hill serves as a metaphor for the communication between two people, illustrating how their ability to communicate has diminished over time. 4 Lurksalot this came together quite quickly, its nothing like I was aiming at , but each bit I did, seemed to fit with the last bit and it just landed in my reaper like this. its a bit of fun 5 @Wolfram "This road's seen joy, this road has killed. Telegraph Hill haunts me still." 6 @upside downer An up tempo, punky pop piece about...well, driving, I suppose. The words are a load of cobblers but at least there aren't many of them and they mostly rhyme 😁 Another most excellent selection to choose from. I would suggest choosing 2 and see how it goes from there. Voting will close at midnight on 30th September
  24. this came together quite quickly, its nothing like I was aiming at , but each bit I did, seemed to fit with the last bit and it just landed in my reaper like this. its a bit of fun technically .. EZ does it quite fast , Gordon Smith does it around the bottom , Ibby plinky plonks and yours truly adds the sophistication.
