1. I used to have loads, including around 20 Yamahas at one point. I currently have 4 - two self-built and two acoustics. I've got two more to finish building and a little bit of GAS which I'm resisting at the moment
2. another option might be to swap the original preamp for a John East one - My gigging bass has a Bongo pickup driven by a U-Retro and it does a great job.
3.
Bloody hell mate, do you pick very lightly?
I must do, I suppose - I use basses equipped with J East preamps, so I don't have to really dig in to get a note.
4. personal preference for me - I used 30-90s for EADG but wanted the low B without the weight and hassle of a five string.
5. I use 50 - 110 on my basses . . . . . but tuned BEAD
6.
It may be just me, but I don't think so. I used to always go to this forum to find some interesting stuff and good debate, albeit sometimes controversial. That's what attracts people, in my opinion. Just lately, I don't see the usual suspects (you know who you are) very often. I recently started a thread that was mildly controversial and was pulled up almost immediately on it. Is it just me? Fair enough if it is, but it mainly seems like stuff for sale and little else.
be careful what you wish for
7.
There's one going on right now: http://basschat.co.u.../page__st__1020
I recognise that carpet
8. Purple sparkle ! I can take pics if needed, but this sums it up nicely Currently fitted with a pair of US made Lollar pickups and a white scratchplate, the original parts will be supplied too, along with its Fender gigbag. £675 shipped within the UK mainland.
9. bought earlier this year and gigged around half a dozen times, I'm selling because I'm concentrating on playing bass. It comes with the optional footswitch and stereo lead, and it has had the original valves replaced - preamp (3) with an Electro Harmonix set, the power valves with a pair of Peaveys. price £275 plus shipping.
10. I spent an afternoon trying out all sorts of foam on an acoustic bass, and in the end settled on some rolled up kitchen towel, squashed down more under the lighter strings. It gave quite a passable double-bass-ish sound whereas the foam either muted too much or too little.
11. all my basses are re-strung and tuned BEAD because; a) I'm playing ska/reggae influenced material and the low notes sound great I've never got on with 5 string basses, mostly due to the weight
12. somehow I have ended up with a spare £80 plus shipping. P. SOLD.
13. I love mine to bits, best combo I've owned. If I wasn't more sensible these days I'd buy it to put on top of mine
14.
Which is the quilted at £20 then? Thanks
that's gone (it's not on the updated list above)
15.
Paul, What are these two? Are they the 2pc Quilted Maple - 53cm x 31cm x 1cm ......................£20? I presume they are 2 pairs? Or the same from different angles? Very interested
heh, no - I saved those until last as wasn't sure whether I wanted to keep them for myself. they're "master grade" (whatever that is) tops and are seriously figured. #1 660mm/470mm/7mm - £150 #2 660mm/470mm/5mm - £135
16.
Did you get my PM? Basically I want to nab one of the 2pc Ash body blanks too! Cheers Alex
oops again ! I did, it's all gone a bit mental on the selling front so I've missed a couple of replies. The two piece ash (not swamp) bodies dried a little more once they got home, and as such can't be described as completely flat - here's a pic: they're bottom right of the top shelf. Having said that, there's plenty of wood to work with, and the measurements given are what's likely to be left after they've been levelled off.
17.
I would still like some photos please
oops, sorry - I'll sort some out when I have a minute.
