1. The 62 RI with the stack knobs floats my boat at the mo'... can you get em over here?
2. I'll give it a go... recently been listening to Yes... because of another (Chris Squire) thread!
3. I A/B'd a few jazzers down at my lms... Fender Custom Shop Jazz (lovely colour) nearly £2000, RW Jazz, sunburst - nearly £1000 and Squier CV Jazz - £260 CS was nice, RW was bloody lovely, CV blew me away, sound and feel were so close to the RW... I play a 62 anyways and the RW and CV came the closest to that in feel terms. If money didn't matter I'd prob go for the RW but the CV is amazing for the price, would make a nice relic/replica project too.
4. This whole thread is pretty pointless IMO. I'll bet EVERYONE here improvises, albeit consciously or unconsciously. Jeez. Don't take yourselves so serious.
5. Enfield... http://www.enfieldguitars.com/index.htm
6. I want a blue one.... no mons though.
7. Don't we all improvise then?
8. I play my 62 Jazz at most gigs these days... I've wrecked it anyways by removing the frets and dropping in a J-Retro... Used to play my 78 Ray at rock gigs... Had to sell that one though...
9. I play a fretless in a Drum&Bass type setting... most of our stuff is completely improv... I have played jazz before so some of the mechanics are similar. It's mainly just laying down a groove however.
10. You'll be fine with your CV...
11. heh... I hate guitar shops, especially when I'm skint. The last time I tries some basses out the one that I was most impressed with was a CV 60s P in sonic blue... that damn colour gets me every time! A/B'd with Custon Shop Jazz, RW Jazz, RW pres, CV Jazz (this was also nice).
12. I have severe gas for the blue one... aargghh!
13. CV! They are a bit lighter than the VM, the VM is chunkier all round, I'm used to a 62 which the CV is closer to. The stock pups in the CV sound more livelier to my ears. The CV is better put together. The CV has a superb glossy neck (not for everyone). The CV would make a great modding/replica project. I'm thinking reverse vintage tuners. stacked knobs etc. Bob.
14. Holy moly... FJ make some nice stuff and no mistake... sniff.
15. Extremely tempted by the white RAY4 meself.
16.
My latest build/acquisition is Sonic Blue - here's a pic :
That's super... I reckon it needs a white guard. A beauty tho but.
17. No pics no bass.
18. Tokai?
19. Yes... I'm going to have to buy the CV 60's P just for that.
20.
Out of curiosity did you replace the original pickups too? I was in a music store the other day and was advised that I should replace the pickups in my 74 jazz as they are old hat and technology and you would get a much better tone out of Nordstrands or similar. I was surprised by this as I actually like the tone from the bass and think that changing the p/ups would take the essence of the bass away! I have however considered adding a J-Retro just for a better output and more EQ options.
yes... I replaced them with a set of DiMarzio's, I don't recall the model type, it was back in the days (70's). Sounds fantastic with the east unit. I remember it was nothing special until I popped in the J-Retro. It was a case inhabitant for nearly a decade!
21.
Bh2, That thing has literally made me weep. One of the best looking basses i've ever seen. Must have cost you an arm and a leg!
Well... not really... there's a bit of history. It was a wreck when I got it. Another thread perhaps.
22. I love sonic blue... lookie here... Not mine I'm afraid.
23. I have an East J-Retro in my 62 Jazz fretless... it really is a bass monster, superb, rich lows.... almost sub bass. I'd recommend to any JB player...
24. You could try and make one, cutting a replacement down. I did a similar thing with my Squier P as the wood was nice and the routing was neat.
25. Blimey... what a line up...
