Fender Precision

I have a top flight jazzer as my main gigger but I thought I must get a passive bass for some festies we were doing. Thought it had to be a Precision... limited funds so I scoured the bay. Came across a MiM 2002 model, turned out to be a cracker! £250. Some light modding, new machines, covers... kept the electronics as it sounds great! Piccy...
2. I've always used rounds (RS66's) on my fretless basses.
3. As I said someplace before... looks like a fender marketing ploy to me... nothing more. Daft pup combos, they haven't thought it through IMO. The Jazz should have at least one jazz type pickup, prob at the bridge position, same for the P, should have at least one split pea pup in the regular position.
4. Heh... took me thirty years to finally bag one... super, at last!

NBD!

I found the stock pups to me pretty authentic, I would go with some vintage style machines though, maybe stacked controls, poss matching headstock... maybe some covers.
7. Price sounds okay... my MIM P bass was £250 off the bay. Good luck, some are good.

Oh my!... always wanted a Ricky... just can't get on with them though.

NBD!

That's great Danny... I've a soft spot for these. Tried one recently, came very close to my '62. Would make a great replica project.
10. Heh... I remember when you were putting that together... moo-tastic!
11. They're perfect for a 'replica project".
12. They are fantastic basses! I recently a/b-ed a CV Jazz, a RW Jazz and a Custom shop Jazz and, although the RW came out on tops for me, the CV was just behind it. The CS was nowhere near. The stock pups sounded very close to the RW.
13. They are superb basses! Gassing for one over the RW burst Jazz as I already have a 62.
14.
Well here she is.... She is so Lightweight, has an amazing tone & the neck is superb - nice & fat but with a thin profile - It makes playing an absolute breeze. This MIM P is of the highest standard in terms of fit & finish & tone - equally comparable & surpassing the MIA P's i compared her to. These MIM RW 50's P's are mightily impressive. Im blown away by the quality of this instrument + she looks great!!
Congrats on the RW... you've made the right choice. The 60's ann is just a hybrid parts bass IMO (aren't all fenders?) and the Nash is a copy, although they're fine basses too. I've severe GAS for one of these, although I'm thinking as well as a 50's RI which is a bit cheaper.
15. Yes... more over priced, over made, over engineered Jazz Bass copies.
16. All these are just overpriced, over made, over engineered fender jazz copies. Buy the real thing and save yourself some pennies. Here's a nice custom shop jazzer... Guitar Village have one sans pickguard and covers for £2379 http://www.guitarvillage.co.uk/productdeta...10740&c=173
17. I'd snap this up if I had a spare £200... they're great basses and sonic blue is my fave fender color.
18. This guy also breaks up vintage basses/guitars and parts them out...
19.
+ lots. The John East MM preamp is an outstanding bit of kit.
I'd never, ever dream of putting an aftermarket preamp in a Stingray... Don't get me wrong here, I've a J-Retro in my Jazz and I'd never swap it out, but in a Ray? sacrilege.
20. Yes! I felt exactly the same when I got my Ray! A 78, pre ernie. Everything just seemed to 'fall into place'. I think it improved my playing... I had to sell it a couple of years ago to release some funds. Just thinking about it brings tears to my ears. This one... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...+gallery+oxford Don't make me post a pic...
21.
Two in the pink, one in the stink
That's it Chris... you naughty!
22. They have a used stacked jazz RI at Guitar Village for £1500.
23. I'm a floater unless I fancy digging in, then I'll use a pickup.
24. Do it! Sonic blue does me in every time! I have a teal green MiM P Bass... looks lovely.
