  1. You are using plugs and the sound can be painful. Well whatever plugs you are using cannot be described as ear protection. If you want to protect your hearing then custom moulded plugs are the answer. ACS moulds are excellent. I used to play in a pub rock band and with the ACS' I never had a problem. The ones you are using now are thrash.
  2. This guy has an interesting take on the notion of being offensive.
  3. For sure and Stings performance on that night was by far the worst performance by a major act I have ever seen.
  4. Really liked the Police and he has made some interesting music in his own right. Saw him many years ago touring 'Mercury's Falling' album and on that night he was a load of tosh. Have never listened to him since
  5. I tried the LF split coils in a '62 RI but preferred the original single coils
  6. Here is a take on The Edge's guitar playing
  7. He was simply echoing the views of the vast majority of Irish, both at home and abroad. No big deal
  8. 🤣. In their early days they were very rough. When the astute Paul Mcguinness came on board as manager, he spotted the potential and made the difference. When they first came out, my mates and I in Ireland were big Lizzy and Rory Gallagher fans and thought U2 were nonsense, as in comparison their technical ability was down the toilet. Was watching a vid some years ago of the making of some U2 album or other, when Bono compared their drummer with JH Bono. Enough said.
  9. That it a nutshell IMO. Each member taken individually, from a technical perspective are nothing special. The Edge has a very individual sound, that depends significantly on all sorts of processing and good look to him. Put it all together and you get the U2 sound, with Bono having an instantly recognisable voice. They were never my cup of tea and Bono just gets on my tits.
  10. Why not get in touch and see can they accommodate you?. Maybe they could custom build you a Calibas and you could add your spec to it?.
  11. There is no indication that that is going to happen. They designed the Celiste and Calabas basses that were a departure, available in 5 and 6 string configurations and in their wisdom, have put them into retirement some time ago, sticking to the trusted designs that put them on the map in the first place. Jaydee are clearly not looking to put a dent in the market, because from a business perspective they have little need to. They are obviously trying to keep the business small, but busy and profitable. Obviously they are succeeding, if their long waiting list is anything to go by. They have been around for many years, when others have folded up their tent and moved on. If a player feels a Jaydee does not meet their requirements, then there are other options a plenty.
  12. Several years ago, I bought a 1965 jazz. It appeared to be all original other that a non original pick guard, together with a body and neck refinish. It came in at a nice price and the seller had no idea of its history, other than the previous owner saying that he was told It used to belonged to AC. There was no proof that it belonged to AC and I could not have cared less, as I really liked the bass. I used it for several years and decided to move it on, as I was culling the heard. As it came to me for not alot of money, I decided to sell it at a nice and a well known player and collector had a play loved it and bought it from me. Some weeks later he asked me did I know anything about the bass and I told him, other than the previous seller mentioning that it belonged to AC, that I knew nothing. We both had a snigger, thinking that it was a sales pitch, as much as anything else. Some weeks later I got a call from the new owner informing me that he had it on good authority that the bass did belong to AC!.
  13. Great to see the interest in Jaydee basses. With MK back using them, they will become only more desirable. I used to have a Roadie 2 and it was superb. Priced at £1455 it has to be one of the best bang for buck basses out there. I preferred mine to a friends Supernatural. A long wait time but well worth the wait.
  14. It seems Porcupine Tree are more popular now than ever, judging by the size of the venues they are playing in. A decade of inactivity seems like it has been a good career move, and has garnered more and more fans, who have never had the pleasure of seeing the band live.
  15. Beggs is a terrific player no question. It is the inevetable difference in presence that you mention that has relevance, together with me having a preference for Edwin within the context of PT. However time moves on, so we can wait and see.
  16. I have seen SW and PT live and the SW show was pretty forgettable, whereas the PT show was one of if not the best gigs I have been at. Colin Edwin was terrific and though Beggs has all the chops, there is no guarantee that what he brings to the party, will emulate Edwin. All my opinion.
  17. Beggs is terrific but in the context of PT, my preference would be for Colin Edwin by a distance.
  18. I am a huge fan but very disappointed that Colin Edwin is no longer involved. Terrific player and loved his laid back demeanour.
  19. Over the years, I have found the sound at big arena/stadium shows a bit hit and miss (in fact more miss than hit). It can often depend on where one is seated or standing it appears. Some years back I went to see Rush at Wembley Arena and the sound was terrible. A big Rush fan and travelled from Ireland for the gig. Very disappointed. The following night I was out in the city for a few beers with friends and wandered into a bar where Wilko Johnson was doing his thing with Norman Watt-Roy on bass. Terrific night!. The Rush gig there and then became a distant memory.
  20. Am a RHCP fan, but will give this tour a miss. Ticket prices are nuts, particularly when going to these large venues, where IME the chances are I will end up watching the gig on a large screen. Prefer to see some up an coming act in a small venue, having a few beers with some friends. More affordable and more enjoyable IMO.
  21. Up to earlier this year, my Clearaudio TT and Primare CD 32 player served me very well and cost pretty much the same, when I purchased them. One could out do the other, depending on the mastering of the album that was being played. Both digital and Vinyl are welcome in my world.
  22. Interestingly, I quit playing 3 years ago and enjoy listening to music now more than ever. When I was playing, I tended to listen with a bias towards focusing on the bass part, technique and tone of the track that is playing. Nowadays that bias has diluted and I tend to focus on the music in its totality. Though here in Ireland, live music still has not kicked off just yet due to covid, I look forward to attending gigs just like an enthusiastic punter, rather than a bassist, focusing on the Bass player, what gear he is using and so on.
  23. Lots of opinions on Vinyl V Digital. For me there is room for both. Mastering is critical . I find that the classic rock analogue recordings of the 70's have rarely transferred all that well to digital and remastering for the most part has been disappointing. Digital can sound superb, but the loudness war has really let it down. All IMO.
  24. Sure he cannot slap de bass, so genius he is not
