1. I used one of these for many years and they are quite a step up from the american standard. Highly recomended.
  2. I have 2 new Elixir nanoweb B strings .125 for sale. Will take £10 for them both plus £2.50 p+p
  3.
Ok, I'd like to get some good longlife strings that can last me relatively indefinitely (or at least much longer!). On my main bass I do change strings fairly regularly, but on my very first bass, I've still got the stock squier strings! I'd like to find a middle ground I've heard good things about both the Elixirs with their plastic coating and the Optima Gold coated strings. The thing that scares me about Elixir is that they seem like they go all furry, so I'm leaning towards the gold plated (particularly with my gold hardware!). Or is there something else I'm missing. For the record, no, I'm not going to stop being a lazy cheapskate and change my strings regularly!
I find elixirs fantastic. They just go on and on. Interestingly I used to have a maple bodied pedulla thunderbolt and found the elixirs a poor match. They sounded dull and lifeless. however for the more common alder and ash bodied guitars you cannot go wrong
  4.
Hi Guys, Anyone had any problems with their Markbass amps?? Mine has only had 'ultralight use' - but even so 'died' last night! - no sound at all - apart from a 'frying' sound from the speakers? In 30 + years this is the only amp out of literally dozens from a Selmer Treble & Bass, Marshall Super Bass & even Super Lead, Hiwatt, Acoustic, Ampeg, Sunn, through to Roland. Trace Elliot etc, etc that has ever let me down! One of the main reasons I bought which is supposedly a 'high end' amp was 'reliability'?? The people Markbass put me onto 'guesstimate' that there won't be much change out of £200! - which will make this a very expensive amp, if I get it fixed & dare to trust it again!! Any suggestions? - all donations gratefully received - would love to know if anyone else has had the same problem & how they resolved it??
5.
Although (if all goes well) I'll be getting 32" scale mij fender jazz, that has some 60s influence but not a reissue????? Anyway as Ive got a new contract for work coming up soon, and I'm taking time off my current job (payed holidays whoop!!) so I'll be in the monies. I'll be looking to either start a new project bass or buy another jazz bass, and looking through fenders catalogue the honey blonde coloured highway one bass cuaght my eye. I'll end doing upgrades to it anyway and as it comes with a badass 2 bridge as standard that's one thing I don't have to buy. I'm just wondering what you guys think about it? One thing that puts me off is no maple finger board option. If anyone could suggest a vintage-esque guitar (not necerssarily a fender) in the price range of between £600 and £800, I would be greatful
A used american vintage 62 reissue is worth considering, though they are onuy available with a rosewood board. I purchased a new american standard but was disappointed with the quality of the fretwork as the frets protruded over the edge of the neck cathing the side of my fingers as I moved up and down the neck. Fender really need to get their quality control sorted out
  6.
Hi guys, I picked up this beautiful bass in a trade for my Spector with Molan recently, and despite it being gorgeous in every way and serving me very well on a recent tour of Cape Town I think I'm more of a 5 string man so I'm going to have to reluctantly move this on. I hope Barrie will forgive me, and won't mind me using his photos- the original thread can be seen here The bass is quality through and through and in excellent condition. Please note it is an NYC, not a metro, which means its been handmade in the Big Apple by the man himself, or at least someone who calls him by his first name. Its also very light and has a D tuner to boot. I don't have the original case but I can provide the gig bag in which it came to me in. Pick up preferred but shipping with a hardcase is a possibility. I'm looking for £[s]1600[/s] £1550 outright as that was the value agreed in the trade deal in which it came to me. Alternatively, I'm looking to pick up a quality jazz 5. I have my eye on something at the moment, but please let me know if anyone would be interested in a trade or part exchange of some kind. I'm based in Stepney Green, e. London, viewing is always welcome or PM me if you want any more info. Thanks, Johnny
