  1. Listened to this earlier after a while of hearing it, apart from being such a fantastic record, the bass playing is so great. Fits the feel of Eltons song so well. Holds the groove perfectly and and plays such great passing notes between the roots, as well as the subtle 16th notes now and again.
  2. Nick Smith, with Dwayne Thomas Jr (aka) Mono Neon.
  3. The Barts are long and short like a Fender set. 95mm at the bridge and 92 mm at the neck. Any ideas as to what options I have.?
  4. As the title says. It sounds wonderful, plays great. East pre, and Barts, Don't get me wrong I love Bartolini's, but they are sounding a little polite and dark for what I want now. Passive the bass has quite a woody soft tone set flat, which is strange because it has the woods that make up a Fender Jazz bass in passive. Swamp Ash Body, Brazilian rosewood FB, maple neck. So I can only assume its down to the pickups. These are15 year old Barts btw. The strings are DR High Beams, so I can take the strings out of the equation. Also the sustain is not so good. They have to be single coil. I prefer the single coil tone from hum canceler pups and I dont record the bass anymore so the hum doesn't bother me. Ive been looking at the Lindy Fralin 5 string set or Aguilar's 5J 70's pickups. The bass in question. Any thoughts.?

    Pino

I see way more Fodera,s for sale than Pino,s.
  6. Bobby Vega has my favourite type of unique style of any bass player.
  7. The thing is I did find a very good drummer and an old friend who's a monster keys guy, but there life (kids etc) are there priority, and rightly so..So they couldn't make it to rehearsals, can do that date, can't do that one. Ok lets make it this date. Ah.... cant do that date. Weeks go past. Very frustrating. Gave up in the end. On I shall plod.
  8. Maybe I need to start from scratch. Advertise for select musicians. Geographically speaking im not in the best area.
  9. Ah. sorry. Well I'm looking for a band who have a good knowledge of theory. Practice once or twice a week. Originals or covers. Playing at Festivals Clubs etc. Soul and Funk being a plus of course.
  10. I would all over a Zon in a second.
  11. Really. I thought it mught be a mix of genres from any site.?
  12. What is the best site to find a Band.?
  13. The awkward moment you want to walk out of the rehearsal, but its going to take 15 minutes to pack up your gear and leave. Been there.
  14. Its difficult to find bands who are into the music that I'm into. That being soul funk etc. Two bands. One is original electro pop (think Cars) ,5 band members. the other is a covers band with these songs.
  15. I haven't played a Sadowsky Metro Express but have owned a Metro RV5 which back in 2010 cost me direct from Sadowsky £1789. Now they are way far north of £2000 which imo they are unexciting . If I wanted an asian built active Jazz bass I would look no further than this. use the same electronics as the USA built Xotic, (like Lakland) get shipped back for final set up. Xotic pro series all the way.. £1300. No brainer. I don't see Sadowsky using wooden pickup covers. http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/XJPRO-1_LPB.html
  16. As I mentioned I did also, he sat and talked to me and my girlfriend at the time for well over an hour. He had his bass with him and was a Japan 75 RI Jazz bass without the pick guard. I picked it up and played a few notes unplugged and it just felt right. As you might expect. The thing is we didn't talk about music or bass playing. We talked about life, as cheesy as it sounds.
  17. From one great bass player to another it may seem. As you might expect some monster bass playing from a master.
  18. ahh frizz it. might as well play the album version with him.
  19. Even if a neck through sustains better, ( which I don't think they do, so many other factor's) when in music are you going to hold a note for that long.? Go bolt on, then if your neck gets damaged you order a new one. Break a neck through neck and its an expensive repair (which will hurt resale) or worse write the bass off.
  20. Twin Cam if you can hear a difference, that's cool. But I think generally amongst most strings and most basses the string through vs non string through is such a nuance thats its very hard to hear, and the audience certainly won't. Same as High mass bridge vs non high mass bridge. The only reason I have (or like) an ABM high mass bridge is because of its full adjustability..
  21. Fantastic. Heard this sooo many times, never get bored of it.
  22. Yeah I remember hearing this years ago. Little did I know it was Julian. There is some brilliant laid back playing on this. His fills at the end. !
  23. What happened with some second hand Fender's.? at well over Fodera prices brand new prices. They were a production bass and weren't even made that well made in the first place. We all know what Leo's thought process was when making his basses. There were no hand crafted parts with early Fenders. Bish Bash Bosh, another fender of the production line.. I think oZZma said it all.
