1. I agree with Pete...Marcus's playing is no way thwackitta...IMHO....he has a brilliantly groovy, unique style...im not a fan of slap where its too percussive with no actual notes being played... See i told you Pete...
2. PM'd all
3. bump...
4.
For my 2 pence worth, I don't think I'd ever enjoy music when all the crowd is sitting down. The music was alright if you like that kind of thing but the sax player just seemed to be hitting random notes.
Those Jazz saxophonist's..havent got a clue have they..
5. Ah...this is alot like my Flea rant...a little pointless and doesnt mean anything apart from you just dont like style of music... i liked the edgar winter band! ....not alot of music going on in the Nick Cave clip..but i may be missing the point... Doesnt help that your opinions are about one of best bassists in the world, and your on a bass forum.. cant see how you think Marcus has got no soul...check out some of his other vids..
6. Meshell is making music for herself not her listeners... i personally think Peace Beyond Passion is her finest hour.. she certainly doesnt get stuck in any one genre...i think people expect to hear the funky stuff from her, but shes much more than that..her latest album takes a few listens..
7. Yes fantastic bass...i had one with nordstrand pups and a Glock preamp...superb...the stock ones are great too...im thinking about getting another...
8.
check this amazing clip out...stevie wonder on the drums....the more i discover about him the more amazed i am...is there anything this guy cant do??? Err...how about see?
Uhh?
9.
bubinga5, I do believe you are actually a bigger bass tart than Beedster or I! It was only a couple of weeks ago that you started a thread on how brill S5's are But seriously, good luck with your sale .. and I can see why Mike's Shuker 4 would appeal - what a stunning bass
He he..yes i know...dont get me wrong i still think they are amazing...but i just fancy a change...
10.
Anything by Bernard Purdie
This is fantastic..he really made me laugh also..'oh yeah i like that'.. check this amazing clip out...stevie wonder on the drums....the more i discover about him the more amazed i am...is there anything this guy cant do??? 13. i will add i bought this bass from the lovely man above this post..thanks Mart.. bumpy bump...
14. I played one of these..fantastic...squires are getting so good.. bumpy for a top bass
15. Im selling my beloved S5..i need the cash i have always thought that an S5 is the best mass production bass in the world,..im just not using it enough to justify it.and i have another super J in the pipeline.. i will add,.. you know the score..Massive punchy stingray tone, from the single H, matching headstock. the best B ive heard, with great growl, awsome build Q, rosewood board, satin neck that switches to a gloss headstock (i love this attention to detail)... ive played this at a jazzfunk rehearsal and its super focused. and ive recorded with it, with a house funk style session.....fantastic growl and tone when you push the instrument... it really is a joy to play.. the only marks are a few small ones on the top of the headstock and a very small mark on the arm rest section of the bass..(pictured) otherwise its immaculate.. its a 2003 model.. £650....
16. One of my favorite tunes of all time. with a bass intro to die for..a young marcus and david sandborn, who is an amazing saxophonist. this is why i love Miller..a wonderfully musical player..and this is how it should be right!!! flowing with the melody.. thought i would share...the album solo is much better, but this is still wonderfull...His slap is the only slap i really enjoy listening to.. 17. the best medium is one that allows you to boost eq without colouring the sound...
18.
That looks very nice and sounds excellent... almost the perfect amount of punch I'm looking for. Shame the dealer is a couple of hours away! I hadn't heard of Lakland before, so you've now added to my dilemna!
Whimsey there are 44-01's for sale here and there all the time, there not hard to find..some come up on here from time to time..for example here is a new deluxe model for 650 and a three tone sunburst for 695.. the deluxe is lovely.. http://www.americanguitarsuk.com/bassshop/laklandB.php i know its a little out of your price range but you may be able knock them down..ebay may have some second hand ones... well worth a look these basses...Lakland are very highly regarded on here...very versatile bass...
19. Whimsey, there is nothing unreasonable about what your asking for... what about a Lakland 44-01..this bass seems to match your criterea..the deluxe model with the quilted top is nice... i think this is the best bass available in this price range....I bought my Lakland 55-01 equipped with nordstrand pickups for £550.00 from a player on here.... http://www.lakland.com/44-01.htm
20. Erm did i say i prefer his playing on Incognito.
21. ..im not suggesting Randy is better or worse than Jeff Beck..Jeff wasnt really the subject... i guess the bass playing is never the subject at a Jeff Beck concert...prob wrong clip of Randy to post
22. Great stuff..i love Mezzoforte...Monkey Fields is a great album by super super sharp musicians!
23.
Yeah funky baby...love that bass too, what is it ESP? That's my favourite colour, I loved my Lake Placid Blue Lakland DJ4. I can only dream of playing a fraction as well as that, I wish I could groove like that I really do, that's awesome playing.
A Moon bass he adorn's
24. i guess CK, that at a certain level, certain basses come down to a purely subjective sense of what ergonomics you like..., for me i want an instrument i would like to keep for the rest of my bass playing days...i have three basses now that i dont think i would ever part with, there just supreme instruments in my eyes.. i have always wanted a Celinder ever since i saw Toasted's black 4 though... To be honest ive never played one....so if anyone would like to let me play there's please say..ive played Sadowsk's Lull's,AC,s, LE,s...the only five i have really loved is the Sei..just incredible East tone from my favorite pups... do i really need another bass..erm..no....but i have gas for a super jazz, and im guessing Celinder is about as super as they come..
25. Just wanted to share this....my number 1 of all bass player's Randy 'Hope' Taylor with Jeff......check Randy at 1.55 onwards... for me this guy has the most amazing sense of melodic bass playing with his fretted or fretless with incognito, but hes got serious groove.. these two tunes tell it all i think.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1Mdl-bqGIo i have never heard bass playing that ive listened to over and over again like this!! the solo is not known, like lots of Randy's playing..he really is the best most musical bassist ive ever come across...a true magician on the bass..his dynamic playing is in full force in this solo...ive never heard fretless sound so good.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MlpVdMRkfhI love Jeff Beck too..his playing is very special..
