2. Ah did i say it had to be a five string... im waiting for some money, about 5K....im really seriously thinking of asking Chris Celinder if he would make me a J5 Update...im thinking of either going the painted route or the sexy top route?? for the sexy top route im thinking, Alder body, Koa or flame Maple top, Rosewood FB,cream bound, pearl blocks, matching Koa/FM headstock, gold hardwear..this is gonna cost me big time i know... For the painted look i would like to go for an off white body, pearl scratchplate, Rosewood FB, Bound, Pearl Blocks, off white headstock, Gold hardwear.. What say you, any ideas??

5.
I am the proud owner of a USA G&L L2000 which I bought in from the US a year ago (via Talkbass forum). It was great value and I love the bass, however I am getting a GAS attack and the L2000 looks lonely on its own so something else to hang next to it is the solution. With a forthcoming visit over to the States soon (I have family over there), I am thinking of once again using the Talkbass extensive source of good value pre-loved bass guitars so I will start looking soon. My challenge is what to look at. I love the characteristics of the L2000 - it can really growl and thump. My new bass needs to have different characteristics .. something sharper, more precise and laid back (and be a looker). I don't have vast experience so would appreciate a bit of advice what to start considering that addresses my aspirations, so I am hoping the knowledge of my fellow Basschatters can be of assistance here - any suggestions and advice will be most welcome. Peter (BTW - not looking to buy at the moment so no offers thanks)
Sharper, more precise, laidback, a looker..... F Bass!
6. i apologise for my close minded rant...its never a good idea to post anything after you have been out for the evening....i really like some of Fleas playing..my comments were a little immature..
7.
First off, appologies if this type of thread has been done to death, But help me make sense of it all.............. I have GAS for a Jazz bass, and the options are overwhelming. Got it bad for a 70's type jobbie, with the ash tray, and block markers. Fender American vintage at well into four figures Mexican version, at around 500 quid Squier Vintage Modified at around 280 quid One of the super J copies, such as Lakland, etc. OK, as far as the fender jobbies is concerned, I know that the US model uses an Ash body, the Mex is Alder, then the Squier is "Soft Maple". I know that the US model does come with the covers, and a proper case......But is the US model really worth the extra dosh?? I would prefer one with a rosewood board, so I guess that rules out the Squier. How do the super J type basses, from the likes of say, Lakland, stack up against the "Fender" range? Do they offer better playability, tone, and value for money? Budget wise, I don't want to be looking over £1500, but I don't want to feel like I've bought a lemon at the end of it! If it helps, I favour basses with a nice light, low action. Cheers Peeps
Well the super J's for me....are usually active instruments, but as Fender's go i would go for MIJ or CIJ everytime. amazing instruments..i used to have a USA 75 RI and a CIJ 62 RI..the CIJ was better... if i was going to go for a jazz now though..it would be a Lakland Joe Osborne...and then put an Audere pre amp in it.. or get a MIJ like the one above and put some Nordstrands and a Creative audio 'redeemer' curcuit into it..i have this in my CS jazz, and its the best Jazz ive ever played...better than anything ive ever heard, seriously...its that good.
8. I know this has been here before but this has really annoyed me..why oh why do people hold Flea in such high regard? it baffles me??...especially against Wooten!! Victor is on a different planet to him............i could play the repetitive stuff that Flea is playing here..(not that i would even think about wanting to)..please tell me that he is better than this.. Excuse my rant..i just dont get the Flea thing, Meshell or Pino are simpler and way better..IMHO i realise this youtube vid may be an unrealistic VS's but there are some that do hold Flea up there with the greats...for me hes an average bass player in a popular band..nothing to special about him..Claypool is far superior... dont get me wrong i love some of Flea's funk fingerstyle but hes not that good..his repetitive slap is rubbish IMO... i await my fate http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKXD622nbos...feature=related this guy is the man, his timing and funk is supreme at 50 seconds.. 18.
I didnt know i could,have they got a website.
Yes mate.. http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp...lists/Home.html Mark is a very nice man too...he will sort you out at a competitive price im sure.. What jazz are you putting it in? have you considered new pups too...i put nordstrands, and a circuit called a redeemer, in my CS, and its blown me away!....It wont change your Jazz tone at all, just make it 10 times better, believe me.its that good.....cheaper too.. Just ask mark, he knows his stuff that man..Hes on Basschat too..
19. Why dont you get one from Mark at bass direct?
20. Ok im a jazz bass man, but lately ive been playing alot of soul funk, and if found that the stingray 5 is just amazing for this stuff...the music calls for alot of damping, and just a groove.. but when i lay off the damping, the Stingray just gives me an amazing growl... i have always thought(if you like the S5 tone) that the S5 is the best production 5 string available today..way better than any Sadowsky or high end bass... the single humbucker is soooo cool to hear...i really think that a S5 is as good as an Alleva C, a Fodera.. the tone is superb, with such a character... anyone who hasnt played a S5 needs to play/hear one...seriously good bass..
21. this is a Fender Jazz 24 fret in cherry burst, bassline pickups, ash body, rosewood board...a wonderful bass...i got the tobacco version and it is seriously good.. amazing growl..ive got some good basses and this £600 bass is up there with them.. why Fender stopped these is beyond me??...inconsistent quality is its only downfall..but when you get a good one, it seriously rocks..
22. Only you can say that mate..there about £600 new.. Awsome bass for the money though. i had the same bass and it had fantastic growl..
23. wow, what a great price Lemmy, this was my first bass...great basses..still play mine now.. have a bump...
24.
And you're suggesting that they buy new really expensive tools just because their old ones are a bit dull? No, just sharpen them. I don't really like this argument because you always get people who complain that their guitar or whatever is holding back their ability which is just not true at all because there are so many people who became amazing players with sh*te gear. The instrument simply does not make the player.
I wasnt suggesting anyone should go out and buy an expensive instrument?..upgrading a bass is a great option..i have tricked up basses too..just to a tone i like to hear... Yes your right, there has been many an amazing bassist who became great from inexpensive gear, but as they grew as musicians, they may have felt that the quality of the instrument needed to get better with them...i can bet most pro's didnt stick with there first budget instrument throughout there career.. each to there own..its what YOU like to hear.
