Well, neither are worth getting offended about for a start.
Right, dad. -
Yes, but you seem to be under the (mistaken) opinion that all opinions should be respected. I was pointing out that thats not true
Ok, how about respecting my right to have the opinion that £500 on a 1973 4001 was a low-ball offer? I think that opinion should be respected, given that someone eventually bought the bass for close to the asking price. -
That's an interesting point. Is someone entitled to believe the world is flat? It's harmless enough, I suppose, but says a lot about the person holding such an opinion.
It also said a lot about the guy offering me £500 for the Rick! -

Anyway, can we leave out the cancer and shootings and get back on the thread topic? Anyone wanting to discuss those aforemntioned topics is welcome to open up another, thread, though f*** knows what they have to do with bass and accepting/refusing offers on kit you're selling! -
I did clearly so I'm not going to try again
So, you let other people speak for you. Point taken. -
You say don't patronise you but can't you read?
Funny guy. Let me clarify: what made you think that it was suddenly revelant to bring in the subjects of cancer and shootings into this thread? I'm sorry, but please enlighten me. -
One of the oddest aspects of modern society is that everyone seems to have gained the idea that calling something "their opinion" makes it sacrosant and of value.
Who mentioned anything about people's opinions being scarosanct? What have you been reading? An opinion is just that and everyone is entitled to one. -
One of the oddest aspects of modern society is that everyone seems to have gained the idea that calling something "their opinion" makes it sacrosant and of value. Its the same nonsense that leads to homeopaths being allowed "their opinion" on the best ways to cure cancer and creationists being allowed "their opinion" when it comes to the teaching of science in schools. Not all opinions need to be respected. Some of them are just too silly.
Hahaha, I love what passes for humour on this site. Keep it up! -
Maybe we have very different thresholds for being offended or maybe the term offended has become meaningless like lots of other words? My point about cancer and shootings was there as a yard stick for how bad things in life can be so spending a moment more of yours being genuinely offended by a so called low ball is maybe wasting your precious time, obviously you appear happy to feel that way so as you were
Don't patronise me, man! You never answerewd my question: WHY did you bring those two topics into the conversation? -
When people are dying of cancer or just had their child shot saying you are genuinely offended by stuff like a low offer on ebay or a forum is ridiculous imo
What the Hell are you bringing topics like that into this conversation for, man?? As to being offended, can't you get it though your head it's MY opinion and you should bloody well respect that instead of calling it 'ridiculous'! Bringing cancer and shootings into a thread on low-ball offers is, quite frankly, not only ridiclous but make no sense, whatsoever! -

This is a public online forum, right? Somewhere one should be allowed to air their point of view without ridicule? In my case, the low-ball I recieved I found to be insulting. Why cant some of you see that? Just because I hold a belief, does that allow those of you who dont agree with it to disrespect it? I joined this thread to air my personal POV, not to be taken to task over it! Enjoy your day, gentlemen. -
Yes, I think you'll find that most of us here do not find it insulting. It is not an offer we would accept in a million years, but how is it insulting ? It is an option, a choice that you are being offered by someone. No pressure is involved here. Why feel insulted, or worse still, be rude, in your response ? good offers are certainly nice, but good manners are priceless.
Ok, let's say the interested party knows his gear and the current market value of said Rick. If good manners are to be considered, should the party have the judiciouness not to make that offer in the first place? An insult is only taken if it is perceived as such and, on that occasion, I personally took that as an insult. His offer was automatically declined and no nasty email reproaching him was sent. He was, however, blocked from bidding on my auctions again and th Rick was eventually sold at close to my asking price. -
Why is it "insulting" ?, what does does it cost you to simply ignore said offer ?. I mean especially on ebay you will always get people making low offers, but rather than taking it personally you should treat them as options.
Are you telling me an offer of £500 on a vintage 4001 isn't an insult ?? -
lowballing .. definition and .. is it insulting ?
Stacker replied to hamfist's topic in General Discussion
A low offer, to me, has to be several hundred pounds below my asking price. Not had any lowballs on here but several shocking ones on ebay, esp when one uses the 'best offer' option. Worst one was for a '73 4001 a few years back: some pi55-taker offered me £500 on it. Offers like that are plain insulting. -
do you ever air bass when you hear a track..

That's quite well done! Reminds me of the 'Mr Bubbles' Bioshock one.

Magnum, eh? I remember when they finally 'arrived', sometime in the mid '80s and they were playing Edinburgh Playhouse and that guitarist in the top hat ruined my night! I was the Runner on the local crew that day and usually the Runner got let go just before showtime. So, I went up to the production office to get paid and their tour manager says to me "Oh, we can let you go just yet. Tony wants curry after the show!" So, I had to go out and get menus from three curry houses and deliver them back to the TM who then handed them to the band. Still they refused to let me go and kept me there until well after the show until Tony the diva decided what curry he finally wanted. They eventually let me go around 11pm, with still no curry order in sight!

Yes but can't the pole still be adjusted somehow? If not, then could it have become demagnetised?
-
iiipopes is yer man for all things Rick but have you tried adjusting the pole? Which pup is it: front or rear?
-
Well, they've come out with the Jag bass and now the Modern Player series which, to me, is clutching at the coat-tails of older designs. But whaever they do, I hope they don't follow Gibson with the massive failure that is the Firebird X.

You should see some small trim=pots. One of them helps filter out any nasty hum and works in conjunction with the dummy coil. This site is, for some reason, not letting me upload pix but here's a diagram of Blade settings:- http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f8/hi-anyone-used-levinson-blade-b4-853538/
