1. We'll never see or hear a band like that again
2. I used to own a GS410 and damn, it could handle some power! Used it with a db680 pre and QSC power amp bridged @ 900 watts!
3. Thanks mate. As I said in the first post, I'm not after a JJ sound, just interested in Ashdown with the flex of a 12 band EQ. Nice description there! How do you think it compares to the ABM 500?
4. I'm considering one of these and would like to hear from anyone who uses, or has used the JJ 500. I cant find one anywhere to try and while I'm not after sounding like Mr Burnel, I like the idea of the 500 EVO with a graphic EQ. Any experiences appreciated, particularly comparing the two.
5. I used to run a QSC RMX1450 with an Aguilar db680 pre into an Aguilar GS410 - that was a very clean and very powerful rig! Heavy though.
6.
Back up - still looking.
7.
I'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong.. but I believe the SVT410HE is infinite baffle (basically half of the fridge). and the HLF is ported which has the extended lows.
You're right. i use a 410HE and just wish it were 610......
8. Some good feedback guys, thanks. Does anyone know where these are in stock ( in the SE) to try one out? Any thoughts / experience on how this cab compares to other 610's - SWR, Ampeg etc?
9.
I use the ABM 610 with a MAG 600 amp and it gets the tight well-dampened bass response of a SVT cabinet. Try it and you will like it.
Tight bass response is sounding good!
10. Is anyone using one of these? I'd like to try one with my GK 700RB-II. Any user experiences would be welcome!
11. Listen to Keith Ferguson on the first 4 Fabulous Thunderbirds albums. Also his playing after that with the Tail Gators and The Solid Senders.
12.
Under-rated... Bruce Thomas ex of Elvis Costello was certainly rated at the time, but has fallen out of the public eye now. I'd say the same for Colin Moulding of XTC - a total genius and innovator on bass, but XTC are gone now and he's largely forgotten outside of their fans. I miss them terribly. Nick Seymour of Crowded House was mentioned and he is a true jazz bassist in a pop band. His bass parts are little adventures for the ears - Fantastic syncopated little counter melodies that can't be second guessed, such as Don't dream it's over - try humming along with the bass part on that . I don't know how he gets some of the sounds he does - on Whispers and moans for example. I love his work on their albums up to Together Alone. After that they went a bit meh. Tom Petersson of Cheap Trick does some amazing stuff and gets little recognition except for starting the 12-string bass ball rolling. Jim Lea of Slade - a ridiculously good player, consigned to be remembered mainly as the one at the back on Merry Christmas everybody. A criminal underestimation.
Agreed, particulary Bruce Thomas and Jimmy Lea!
13. I used to like the 9050M flats. I believe they're now made by D'Addario, which make them Chromes more or less.....
14. I agree that most are 'not so well known' rather than underrated. My nomination is Keith Ferguson from the original Fabulous Thunderbirds line-up. He went on to be in The Tail-Gators and The Solid Senders. An absolute blues and roots master.
15. Looking for a Hammond style player to join a Mod / R&B / Soul band based in Woking. The band members are like minded musicians and together formed a Mod influenced R&B band. The band members have pro and semi pro experience, and now we are looking for a hammond/keys player to complete the line up.Ideally someone who can commit to a few rehearsals and then one or maybe two gigs a month when we are all happy with the music and line up etc. Good musical ability but also be able to enjoy it too. The aim is to play 'Real' mod music from the small faces/Stax/Motown/the Who/Zoot money/Animals/Spencer Davis Georgie Fame/northern soul etc etc. Also some self written songs. Age is unimportant but obviously a fan of the above bands is important and wanting to play this style of music essentially the top of the list.
