1. Don't forget to keep us updated with any information you may get from Wal.
 2. WOW! An old Wal pro without a scratchplate - never seen one like that before. Best bet is to email Wal with the serial number & some pictures - they should be able to give you more detailed information on your lovely bass. 3. The new Saxon album, "Call to Arms". It's surprisingly good if you like your metal inna NWOBHM stylee.
 4.
Mark King in shill bid shocker
Don't you go spoiling all the lovely positive sentiments expressed in this thread so far with your nasty mean spirited punk thoughts.
 5. Depends how easy/difficult the bass part I'm playing is.
 6.

That is seriously awesome!
 7. They were a great live band. Saw them a few times, including supporting Van Hagar at the NEC.
 8. Cool! How narrow is the string spacing? I love the four string versions, absolutely fantastic basses.
 9. Is the bridge on these known as a "Bent Bit Of Wood"?
 10. I've only ever used Parcelforce to post guitars & have never had any problems at all. Booking over the phone with Parcelforce direct is always better than trying to do it at a post office. They don't "Mis-sell" insurance. If you can't be bothered to read up on the service, what they offer & what exclusions there are before using them then more fool you.
 11.
No wait this is Wimbledon.
You daft bastard.
 12. Alternatively you can pay me to come on tour & look after it for you.
 13.
I've never been a fan of L42, but he seems like a nice genuine, down-to-earth guy as well.
I met Mark King backstage after a Level 42 gig in Cardiff in 1981. I was a young tongue-tied kid who'd just discovered his playing after growing up listening to pretty much exclusively old school rock music (Purple, Sabbath, ELP etc.) The rest of the band were great & spent ages talking to me & signing my programme. Mark actually went & got his basses that had been packed away by the road crew so I could play his red Jaydee & the legendary white "Starchild" Jaydee. He was absolutely bloody fantastic & to this day I don't think I've ever met a nicer person. I won't hear a bad word said against him - he's a f***ing gem.
 14.
I'd recommend Stuart Clayton's new book "The Bass Player's Guide to Scales & Modes" (it's kicking my a** I can tell you!).
I've just got this & it's excellent.
 15.
The reply went along the lines of "just looked up your instrument on the web. Very beautiful. Unfortunately we cannot help you with a case for this"
That's odd - you used to just send a really detailed set of measurements to them & they'd build pretty much anything. Wouldn't have thought it'd be too difficult to modify one of their cello or double bass cases to fit your Ampeg.
Ho hum, I thought that was the point of a custom builder. never mind, I am sure there are others. I did find one in North America which wanted $950 for the case plus $1135 for shipping! Er thanks but no thanks
$1135 for shipping!! Who was it, Ken Smith? (Ken, if you read this it's just a joke!!)
 16.
Thanks Rhys. Unfortunately they say they cannot help me
Really? I'm very surprised at that. Did they give a reason?
 17.
I'm wondering if there's anything better in build quality / materials out there?
Probably not. I don't like Fender basses but the Squier VM jazz basses really are very good for the money. There's a lot of stuff around at that price point but you probably won't find better. It'll be easy to sell too should you ever decide to upgrade or whatever. Can't comment on the Yamaha mentioned as I've not played one but all their gear is very good generally. The Yamaha basses I have played have been great.
 18. This is what you want - not cheap but the absolute dogs bollocks: http://www.caltoncases.co.uk/
 19.
I'm not a brand slave......
You're in the minority on here then.
 20.
White Squier/Fender = Duff McKagan Would said metal bands not want him?
I'd be very surprised if any Death metal bands would want an aging poodle like Duff McKagan.
 21.
Lol don't know what happened there, ended up with four posts
I had two posts appear, now they've both gone. Weird.
 22. You've obviously lost your mind - can I have your Alembic please?
 23. I rarely play below the 21st fret so I've got to have a two octave neck.
 24.
He's like...the Cleo Laine of the bass world!
I'm trying hard to work out if this is intended as an insult or not.
 25.
You ain't kidding mate.
To be fair to them their online business was established in 1895; website design was still in it's infancy then.
