1. Surely making such erroneous accusations against an instruments design and function in a major magazine is bordering on libel?
2. I'm considering getting me a Yamaha BB424 as an all-round workhorse. I've heard nothing but good things about them but I am a little bit concerned by the review in BGM a couple of issues back. For those who haven't read it, the reviewer said you are unable to set the string height properly because of the blade-style back pickup - it would seem the height of the blade isn't adjustable and any attempt to lower the action results in the strings hitting the pickup. This is a bit worrying as I like a nice low action. It could be a deal breaker! Any BB owners on here ever had this problem? The blade may be fixed but surely the pickup itself can be lowered?
3. A happy ending, but that knock during transport should never have happened. Who was at fault, the courier company or the seller's bad packing?
4.
was there also mate. they put on a good show. sound was a little disappointing though geordie's guitar sounded like mush but the drums sounded great. always good to hear them play Love Like Blood though I believe it's usually played for a fallen friend.
It suffered from what seems to be the standard live sound these days - deafening booming sub-bass and very little definition. This actually worked for European Super State but didn't suit there more usual sound. It seemed to sort itself out by about the 4th or 5th song though, the guitar became a lot sharper. It's a shame they played so many new tracks right at the start, I could hardly make them out. The ones they played nearer the end were stunning - Pole Shift was incredible.
5.
Was a bit gutted they didn't play love like blood in Bristol. They did Requiem, which I love :-)
At the Roundhouse they encored with Requiem and Wardance, then went off, only to come back after about five minutes to play Love Like Blood. Don't know if it was down to the venue or KJ themselves but each time they left the stage the house lights were switched on, causing quite a few people to leave only to have to come charging back in again. Bit daft really. Maybe that's what happened at Bristol?
6. I saw them at the Roundhouse on Thursday night. What an inspirational, terrifying, emotional, intense, violent, spiritual, heavy-as-fook band. That is all.
7. Zoom B2 multi effect pedal, in excellent condition and full working order. Comes boxed with original adaptor, instructions and paraphenalia. Here's the official gumph: http://www.zoom.co.jp/products/b2 It's an excellent pedal but I've never had the patience to get the most out of these multi effects units so it's sitting around unloved. These seem to go for between £70 and £80 new. I'll let this go for £35 inc. shipping to UK mainland.
8. Rotosound Roto Bass nickel on steel roundwound bass strings. Gauges 45 - 65 - 85 - 105. Never used. £10 inc. delivery to UK mainland.
9. This is one of the current Tonepump circuits with the adjustable output control. I bought it to replace the one in my old Spector Euro but sold the bass before I got round to installing the preamp. This was purchased direct from the designer/manufacturer in the Czech Republic and has never been used. £40 ono including delivery to UK mainland.
10.
I also had a "when are the valves going to go" thought constantly in the back of my mind at each gig.
That was always my concern.
11.
Hey Oldman. This one was, indeed, yours if I remember right. I bought it from Bassulike a few months back. I'd be keeping it if it wasn't for the Shuker 'cos it's a beastie.
I bought it from Oldman and later sold it to Bassulike
12.
Sei what...??
Great minds and all that!
13. Pretty sure it's 'lake-land'. As for Wal, never been too sure! I know Sei is pronounced 'say', if that's any help...
14. That tone sounds like 'generic modern bass'. Not very impressive IMHO.
15.
Except, what you're describing is a contractual arrangement, where clauses in the lease agreement, or in a subsidiary document referred to in that agreement, set out operational procedures to be followed on termination. There will also be a statement saying that the contract does not exclude the operation of the general law in relation to Crown reservation, "antiquities", "treasure trove", and high-value items, and how such should be treated in other situations, such as abandonment.
This takes me back...
16. What are the amp models? I couldn't find out what they are meant to be on the Yamaha website...
17. I would hazard a guess that this is the first time Liberace has been mentioned on BC.
18.
Roundabout by Yes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPOTg-7pV64
For a beginner?!
19. If you don't mind waiting a couple of weeks you're still welcome to try mine!
20. Clip sounds amazing! Vintage tone engaged?
21. I've never known anyone to switch endorsements so readily. I remember reading an interview with Glenn a few years back when he said he couldn't play 4 strings anymore as he needed that low B. He was playing a Vigier at the time. Then he switched to a Jazz bass and said it was the only bass that felt right to him. Then came the Manne Glenn Hughes signature bass. Then the Yamahas. Now the Nash Precision copies. My money's on Hofner next.
22. A bit of sniffing around the Rick Resource has unearthed some info on Jon's infamous Great White - here's a list of the mods: 1. Installed a 21st fret. 2. Removed stock bridge pickup and replaced with DeMarzio P's. 3. Installed a "phase" switch for the De- Marzio's' when out of phase the sound is thinner, but cuts thru very well; I imagine Jon used it for lead runs and when playing on the upper frets. I've gotten some good "clank" when out of phase. In phase, the sound is fuller. 4. Stripped factory finish to bare wood and refinished. Can't tell what was used but it has held up well. Some checking and some fading but has not turned the mucous yellow we see on factory white 4001's. And the head stock was done in black. 5. Installed a block of wood, covered in elec- trical tape, under the bridge, which raised the action significantly. (I removed this; couldn't play it with high action). 6. Truss rods showed enough wear to know they were carefully adjusted, but appeared to be originals. The chap who now owns the bass states the mods were made around '79 or '80, and that he considered returning it to it's original state but decided against it. Here's the link to the full thread: http://www.rickresource.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=119519&hilit=jon+camp
23.
To be fair though isn't your left testicle playing in the West End ATM?
There are lots of ATMs in the West End, which one do you mean?
24.
But apparently not. That bass is known as the "Great White" and I understand that it had a Di Marzio p/u in the bridge position. In interviews, Camp states that his Rick's were heavily modified. A guy on Rickresource currently owns the bass.
It would appear Jon Camp has arrived over on Talkbass, I'll pm him, hopefully he will reply! I'll try to get him over to Basschat as well. I remember reading that interview and him stating that his Ricks were modified. If they had different pickups at the time of the above clips I will be very surprised - it just sounds like a classic, stock Rick to my ears.
