1.
i also remember distinctly remember this
I've got that whole programme on DVD somewhere. Joyous.
2.
The name skips me this second, but was reading an article a couple of years back on a named session player. In his collection he has some of the cheapest, nastiest basses from the 70/80's as well as the usual highend gear. On some recordings they just sound right he said.
That was Dave Swift I think... He's got a lot of bizarre and unusual instruments.
3. Steve, now I have met you I feel qualified to answer your question - and the answer can only be... WHITE. Black's just too obvious! And it's harder to appreciate the Spector styling on a dark stage.
4. Lord knows who made the doubleneck, but it's his Rick on the recording. Unusual clip, that TOTP one, it's a different mix to the single - the orchestra is a lot more prominent. Jon Camp was a great player, wonderful tone and feel. He's the first to admit Squire was his biggest influence. Here's a recent interview: http://renaissance-fanfare.net/forum/topics/jon-camp-interview-2012
5. Don't forget the hidden 'Brit' setting - a fantastic Marshall Superbass emulation and my preferred sound A wonderful little amp.
6. I've just bought Steve's luscious Aria SB700. Excellent instument, just as described. Very hospitable chap too, I could have happily stayed and chatted bass all day I reckon! Deal with confidence. Cheers mate!
7. Interesting thread. We were thinking of 'upgrading' to a soundbar, purely for reasons of space. Definitely sticking to my proper speakers now.
8.
Which one? And where?
I paid a visit to our very own 6feet7 and couldn't resist a go... I'm still buzzing a little bit. What an astonishing instrument!
9. I played a Gus the other day and it was jaw-dropping.
10. This was nearly mine once, but destiny tore us apart... Mark really knows his Spectors, deal with confidence.
11. I remember seeing these in Bassist magazine as a naive, googly-eyed 14 year old... Of course such amplification was beyond the realm of dreams in those days, my 10w Prime was all I needed. P.s. I may have misunderstood your earlier post Chris but are congratulations in order?!
12. Please don't buy Mel's P, I want it.
13. My Beatles tribute - Shabby Road. We've also been throwing around Meatwood Flack for a while... A genuine tribute band - Ashbone U Wish
14.
Saw them at the Barbican last night, stirring stuff indeed. Among my favourite rhythm sections can be found Guy Evans and Hugh Banton's feet.
How do they get by without the saxes?
15. Anybody seen these yet? Apologies if they've already been mentioned. Not sure what to think really! Looks quite versatile with all those switching options but I reckon that pickup is just too far back for me. white/maple: http://www.andertons.co.uk/electric-...mpic-white.asp Charcoal transparent/rosewood: http://www.andertons.co.uk/electric-...ransparent.asp Candy apple red/rosewood: http://www.andertons.co.uk/electric-...-apple-red.asp
16. I've got a couple of spare GL scratchplates, mirror and white pearl... Great basses, I only sold mine as my hand couldn't cope with the skinny neck.
17. Anyone had any experience of these yet?
18.
Looks like an Epic but I can't get my head around the controls being on the wrong side (above as opposed to below if turned around )
It's an Essence I think. Just noticed the controls though!
19. Pic of my old band, taken about 5 years ago, for the sleeve of our first album. I'm at the back with the muttons, managing to look in a completely different direction to everyone else. Don't worry ladies, I still look exactly he same! 20.
A week or two back doing a quick support slot for a mate's band. Just turned up with a bass and a tone pedal and off we went...
You are Matt Freeman, and I claim my £2.73!!
21. I've just bought some of Dave's old Bass Player magazines. No probs whatsoever, the mags were posted as soon as I sent the payment. For old mags, they are in excellent condition too. Cheers Dave!
22. I played an impromptu covers set with some mates the other week, amongst others we played a version of American Woman which gradually morphed into Tales of Brave Ulysses and back again. Worked a treat!
23. Nice! Looks a bit like a Conklin. Those pickups look meaty!
