I had a Darkglass M900 amp for a while, and preferred the b3k setting. It took a bit more work to get it to sit right in the live band mix, but I preferred it as a tone. Been mulling it over and wondering if maybe the b7k ultra is a bit overkill for me. I use a EBS TD650 as a live amp, so if I’m thinking of using a b7k as more of a always on, low gain bit of grit, I might be better off just picking up a used b3k. I was attracted to the Ultra because of the ability to switch the drive in and out without bypassing the pedal completely. Most of my gigs for the rest of this year are really just pub and club gigs, so I wouldn’t really be using it as a DI, although a DI pedal is always handy to have on hand in case of amp failure. I do have a EBS Billy Sheehan drive pedal, so I could realistically pair that with a b3k and have one set low gain, always on, and one set full banzai to kick in when needed, which admittedly wouldn’t be too often. Decisions decisions!

Anyone using one of these in a more low gain setting. Was looking at fitting tone capsule in my Warwick Streamer, but am now wondering if I’d be better off buying one of these as a pre amp for all my basses, and also have the drive circuit available. I don’t really use balls out distortion, but I’ve heard a clip of one on a more low gain setting and it sounded great. Just curious if any of you guys have real world experience with these pedals. At close to £400, I’d like to get some real opinions before pulling the trigger if poss.

If you’re open to the idea of seperate head and cab, I would recommend looking for a used GK MB Fusion. Valve preamp, and the 2 switchable channels mean you go from crisp and clean, to warm and driven with one click of a footswitch. I’ve owned class D heads by TC, Genz, Aguilar, Darkglass, but i kept the GK far longer than any of the others

Interesting to hear some people say about the bass centre frequency of the OBP-3, saying that it’s only really useful to cut rather than boost. I’ve just had a a guy on a Warwick FB group say the exact same thing. I’m also now intrigued by how a Darkglass Tone Capsule would sound in there. I’ve got one in my Dingwall NG2 and It is pretty versatile

Thanks man, very much appreciated!

Have any of you guys fitted a Aguilar OBP-3 pre into a Streamer Stage One? Just trying to get some thoughts and opinions

Hard to decide, but I think Rival Sons at the Academy in Bristol has to be up there as one of my best. Honourable mention for Foo Fighters at the Olympic stadium. Worst- Poison, on the bill of the monsters of rock tour 1990 in Paris. Just dreadful

I think what I mean is, I assume they particularly wanted a 2 band eq, otherwise they could’ve just used the 3 band DG capsule which is already in production, and they already use stacked knobs on the 4 band Bongo. Maybe they wanted all new circuitry, more focused around the Ray bite
-
I’m wondering if they wanted it to essentially be a classic 2eq ‘Ray, with with added distortion circuits, otherwise they could’ve used the 3 band DG tone capsule which gets fitted in the Dingwall NG series basses

Can’t help but think that it would’ve been even more awesome on the stealth finish Stingray that they did

It’s showing on Anderson’s website, but when you click on it, you just a a ‘product not currently available’ message.

With only 100 available, the price doesn’t really matter, not much chance of getting hold of one even if we wanted to!

$2499 according to the link to Dubaldo Music. Funny enough, I’d just been watching a demo that someone had posted on the DG Facebook page.

I had a RH750 for a while, the feature set on them is great. At £349 brand new, they’re an absolute steal -

Have decided that this little fella is too good to just sit around as a back up. When we do eventually start gigging again, my TD650 is going to be my main amp, and I’ve got a DI pedal as an emergency should I ever need it, so time for this to find a new home. It’s had very little use tbh, the BC’er I bought from hardly used it, and I used to alternate between this and a GK MB Fusion, so it’s hardly ever been worked hard. It’s in unmarked condition, still have all the original packaging, the intelligent footswitch and a genuine Darkglass carry bag. As I’m sure you know, it’s got 2 drive circuits, the b3k and the VMT, so lots of tonal variety. I think these get a bit pigeon holed as only being any good for Dingwall wielding, drop tuned, metal madness, but the clean channel is superb and crisp. You’re welcome to collect it, I can do a meet up within say 50 miles of Bristol, or it can be sent at the buyers cost. Not looking for any trades and the price is pretty firm, I think it’s fairly priced given the condition it’s in. Anything you’d like to know, just ask away

I recently went back to a heavier, old 3u amp, in the shape of a EBS TD650. I was adamant that’s what I was getting and didn’t look at anything else....but....if one of these had come up in the same price bracket as the EBS, then I think I would’ve struggled to make a decision. These Fusion 550’s are cracking amps

I had a 4HS in the stealth finish. It’s a very versatile bass, and I actually quite like the look of them, it’s different. I had a couple of things I couldn’t get on with, finding a comfortable place to anchor my thumb, the H felt too far back and the S too far forward, I could’ve had a thumb rest fitted but I was a bit reluctant to stick a cheap plastic thumb rest on an expensive bass. The second was the stealth finish on the neck, I found it felt really sticky when my hand got sweaty. I traded it for a Dingwall NG2 in the end. Sometimes I wish I’d given it a bit more time. The 18v pre amp is very hot and only small tweaks make big changes to tone. I think a telling point is that most people on this thread who have owned a bongo, sound regretful of moving them on

I’ve still only used it at home volume, but the 650 definitely doesn’t lack in power. With my Dingwall and through my Big Twin 2, it feels like it could slice your head off!

Thanks! Yes, I too had a Genz Benz, I had the shuttle 9.2. I haven’t completely severed the class d ties, I do still have my Darkglass M900, but if what I’ve heard today is anything to go by, I think the EBS will now be my main amp
