1.
1. Plug it into your PC, if that's a workable option. You'd probably need an adaptor cable or something to take your standard quarter inch jack cable down to the 3.5mm jack input on your PC, but that should work. The PC will have a sound mixer somewhere to set the levels.
Unless your PC soundcard has XLR inputs like mine. [RME HDSP9632 c/w XLR breakout cable} I plug bass via amp XLR DI out into the mixer which is permanently connected via balanced XLR cables to the soundcard inputs
 2. Know my bass's what? Apostrophe abuse: I HATE IT
 3.
It is comprehensible if you've never heard of shimming. "I need to lower the action. I can do that by tipping the neck angle backwards. Therefore I need to remove a shallow wedge of wood from the outer edge of the neck pocket." Shame he didn't actually ask someone with some experience or some sense of it as an instrument.
far easier to just insert a slice of business card at the heel end of the pocket
 4.
It may be the grain of the wood playing tricks but the pickup routes don't seem to align properly. Can you post a close-up of the two pickup routes? Cheers.
They don't look parallel nor centred properly...
 5. I have 3: Squier JV-P Warmoth PJ with a Jazz neck Warmoth active P with a Jazz neck The Squier JV-P I have had from new. It hardly ever gets played anymore as I find Jazz necks so much more comfortable, but it will never get sold. The 2 Warmoths are recent builds. The active is most recent and is likely to get the #1 spot with the passive PJ as a spare for when the #1 fails at a gig.
 6.
Yeah, that ProcrastinationChat was a complete waste of time.
I think I'll sign up tomorrow
 7.
You know what I miss with the john east preamps? An old fashioned tone control. Turning down the treble on the preamp just isn't the same somehow? By the way nice bass.
On the P-retro there is still an old fashioned tone control. The passive tone knob still works even when the P-retro is switched in.....so you can still roll of some top end even with the active circuitry active. The active side of a P-retro can either work as a notch filter or a band pass filter depending on which way you turn the knobs - it also has a switchable bass boost (it seems like I'm going to destroy my amp/cab when i switch this in)....the master tone still rolls off the top end.
 8.
Where did you find the Gotohs by the way? I've been looking at trying to find some reverse-gear tuners for my Jazz.
Frightfully expensively at Allparts
 9. and here it is being played last night at the rehearsal come gig....: you might notice the Eq on the amp is flat....i was learning to control the tone with the P-retro...
 10. 'Gigged' it for the first time tonight. I say gigged but it was an open rehearsal with about 30 odd (and I mean odd) folk in the room with us. It worked beautifully. Hooky6stringbass from here was there...he had a go on this bass too. Good to meet you again Sir.
 11. the blob fixed it. Everything bedding in nicely.
 12. is that a badger theremin???
 13.
Interests: Extreme taxidermy
Seems right up your street!
 14. I promise to post pictures!!
 15. So has anyone got a REALLY CHEAP p-bass body I can do this to? Please
 16.
You want your bass to look like a giraffe??
and feel like a giraffe too
 17.
cloth would get worn away easily if you do a lot of playing sat down.
not planning on actually playing it more than maybe one rehearsal and maybe a gig if the rest of the band let me... LOL
 18.
BUT - you'd have to seal it somehow so that any spilt drinks or sweat didn't stain it, which would make me more inclined into seeing if it's possible to get S/A vinyl with a giraffe print on it, kinda like the skins that Rick Parfitt was doing.
Sealing it would spoil the touchy feely effect of it.....Unsealed would allow it to get soiled which ain't no bad thing..... Liking the idea of locking in with piping in a groove...HMMMM food for thought
 19.
Personally I'd move the compressor to the end sonit levels and limits all channels the same and irons out any volume mis-matching between the loops.
+1 Always stick compression at the end of your chain...
 20. Specifically I'd like to use this: http://www.fabric-online.co.uk/content/e018_littlegiraffe
 21. I know it's a silly Q and most of you will cringe at the thought but I want to cover a bass body with fabric (perhaps upholstery fabric). How would I go about it? Does anyone know any online instructions on how this might be done? Anyone got an old p-bass body that they don't want that i can do this to?
 22. Teething trouble at rehearsal last night. Bizarrely the A/E side of the pickup cut out a few times. Got home, opened it up. The earth wire from the A/E coil did not look securely soldered to the shield plate although when I opened the bass the A/E coil was working and the wire was 'stuck' to the solder blob. I blobbed another dollop of solder on it and we'll see how it goes tonight (another rehearsal!!).. Strange coz that was originally soldered by Fender, not me. Will take 2 basses to rehearsal tonight just in case.
 23. puts my skillz to shame
