2.
Are there any topics out there recommending good monitors if you're a first time buyer? Looking to further my home studio set-up but i'm not really sure of what i should be looking for/looking to spend you see.
Can't go wrong with a set of Rokit RP6 G2 http://www.dv247.com/studio-equipment/krk-rokit-rp6-g2-active-studio-monitors-pair--68122
 3.
If it's A, play the second thickest wire. That's what the pros do.
Unless it's a 5 string
 4. I use it as a plug in in Sonar X1 and program my own patterns in the piano roll using a drum map. I then tweak velocities (by drawing - rather than typing in numbers) and microtiming to add 'feel', accents, ghost notes etc.
 5. I have a pair of Rokit RP6 G2.....and they are more than loud enough.... if you are not using a mixer on the output side I can highly recommend one of these http://www.dv247.com...ntroller--60711 to sit between the soundcard and your monitors. It allows you to leave your monitors at 0db and control volume analogue. If you control volume from your software it generally does it by cutting the bit depth (among other things) thus losing quality.
 6. Someone suggested it might be a Kay ^^^up there somewhere. It's not a Kay. What's that other hole in the heel of the neck?
 7.
Our drummer is in control of his volume. This is in part by using a variety of sticks, beaters, brushes, hot rods, etc., but mostly by only hitting the drums and cymbals as hard as is needed for the song and the gig.
What he said. It's the only solution.
 8. I'd have a Bass guitar!!! No really if you are talking the 6/12 string short things I'd have a Semi Acoustic Epiphone or the like. Currently my guitar is this: http://www.orangetreesamples.com/strawberry-electric-guitar and this: http://www.orangetreesamples.com/evolution-acoustic-guitar-steel-strings
 9.
One question I have is do you aim to create a bassline which, although fits into the song has a seperate and distinct melody and structure to it and could almost be a standalone melody ( I suppose you would call it counterpoint ) or do you write something which blends into the rest of the insturments.
What does the song need? I often start with the bassline and build everything else around that! For example in this: www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_13198714 I started with the bass chords that come in from 2.04 and built the whole of the rest of the song around them. Those chords just came from a casual pick the bass up and start playing while watching telly!
 10. Strange name for a venue Six D.O.G.S http://sixdogs.gr/?page_id=252 Sad Lovers & Giants will be playing there on October 27th 2012...... I wonder if we'll get paid.... ;-)
 11.
However, I am thinking about those times when you don't have a proper stand to hand.
Would never happen.
 12. Why would you want to do this anyway?
 13.
This has been a bit of a Holy Grail search for me, too. I like the P-Bass sound but can't get on with wider necks..
I beat the quest by building Warmoth using Alder body with Fender Original pup.
 14.
Jazz neck is thinner (across the fret-board), so can be a bit quicker to get around. Jazz at the nut is 38.1mm, Precision at the nut is 41.3mm. There are variations, but these measurements are from the Standard US models.
PLUS Vintage P width @ 44.5mm (1.75")
 15.
Sorry to slightly derail the thread but @Twigman what is wrong with the green reel solder? I have used that in the past with seemingly no issues but am I missing something? Thanks
it's lead free - it needs too much heat, the joints don't stick as well - I've had joints fail with the lead free. Try the leaded red reel 60/40 stuff and you will notice the difference
 16. With UPS if you get the tracking number [no hassle at all] then the address actually delivered to can be proven.
 17.
https://www.paypal-c...ight/true#M2691
It's easy enough to get the tracking number from the UPS driver when he collects...it'll be on his barcode reader thingy... then you can track it exactly as the buyer can. That is POD.
 18.
Why do you expect a seller to jump through a million hoops all so some chancer of a buyer can get a bargain at his expense?
Who said anything about it being at the seller's expense? NEGOTIATE the buyer has not paid for packaging Charge your time at £50 an hour if you want ....but get the buyer to compensate for anything the buyer has not yet paid for...... that way you might get closer to what you expected to get for it in the first place it's not rocket science.
 19.
We clearly have very different definitions of "reasonable request". Boxes big/strong enough to protect a 4x10 are neither cheap nor commonplace. If it was an effects pedal you might have a point---but expecting someone to box a 410 for courier collection (out of their own pocket!!) is by no means "reasonable"
5 minutes with 10 metres of bubble wrap and some gaffer tape should do the trick Who said anything of out of their own pocket? Is the seller incapable of negotiation? I sent a motorcyle exhaust full system with all it's sticky out fragile tubes and stuff with just a small length of bubble wrap and some parcel tape....it got to Edinburgh no problem and I was thanked for the quality of my packing.
 20.
I'm afraid thats nonsense. If the seller doesn't pack the item properly for a courier then paypal will side with the buyer if it gets damaged.
The seller is not contracting the courier, the seller is merely allowing 'someone' to collect the item. It is the person who contracts with the courier who is responsible for its safe passage. That cab would take minimal preparation anyway...is the seller incapable of negotiating a packaging price with the buyer? It just seems to me the seller is trying to wriggle out of this coz he feels short changed.
 21.
You mean apart from the seller having to spend his own time, effort, and money to find suitable packing materials
He doesn't though. Let UPS collect as is...it's not the seller's responsibility once UPS has collected.
 22.
If you want to try and convince the seller to post it then ask them before you put your bid in. Gonna be hassle for you either way mate...unlucky.
But the buyer is sending UPS to collect. The buyer is NOT asking the seller to post it. No more hassle than the buyer collecting. What's the difference between the buyer collecting and UPS collecting? NOTHING The seller is just looking for an excuse to relist coz he got less than he wanted. Poor form!
 23. and don't need to pack it if they never paid for packaging
 24. Not ever had an active bass. The bass I'm building atm has a P-retro in it...or will have when I find a small enough screwdriver to connect the pup and earth......so I am yet to discover the loys of active EQ. The main reason I am doing it is so I can change tone drastically from song to song without having to tweek the amp. which is often at the back of the stage and relatively inaccessible
 25.
well the ad states A courier is not in person.
Are couriers machines now? last one I saw was a person. Don't pack it, let their courier collect it.
