Before you buy new PUs, have you tried altering pickup height at all?
Yes, but to no avail sadly =(
I concurr (to quote a film) with all of the above. Fender pups tend to be quite pokey IME, so it does make me wonder about the set up... and don't under estimate the value of a good set of strings. DRs just are the best.... That said, Villex and EMG jazz sets get good reviews but I have no experience of them, however what I can say is that I have Delano JC4AL/M2s in my Shuker Jazz, and they are extremely good. Split coils make them noisless and they're very flexible from a good thick tone to very bright - and plenty of level. A modern slap tone needs a little more mid scoop than they have naturally, but a tweak of outboard EQ and you're there.
Hmm ok, shall look into it, thanks .
 2. Ok, I shall look into it, thanks . Any other suggestions anyone?
 3. Red Hot Chili Peppers Influenced... Started off with the thumb and then learnt the song "Higher Ground", then just practiced on my own from there.
 4. I own a standard fender mexican jazz bass. Very nice to play, but when using fingerstyle I have to pluck very hard indeed to get a decent sound out of it, and the output is very low. Also it's slap tone leaves something to be desired. I'm looking to upgrade to some better pickups, that are both good fingerstyle and slapped. I have heard good things about wizards but I'm not sure about what model to get or anything. Also like the sound of dimarzios. Any recommendations?

 7. Nice to see another person who appreciates the Fleabass . A fleabass is my main bass at the moment too. Good to hear the gig went well.

 11. RHCP. Flea's bass playing made me realize that bass wasn't just plodding along, but that it could be interesting and expressive.

 13.
I've not purchased one, but spent some time in a shop messing around with one. I found the action and intonation poorly set up, the fret ends badly finished, and the plugged-in sound weak and thin. Of course if you're going to upgrade the electronics and give it a good setup some of those might go away. The whole thing just felt "cheap" to me - little things like how the neck sat in the pocket, and the quality of the paint job, just made it feel like it was put together quick and dirty.
Maybe that was just the one you tried? The action of my fleabass is spot on, i've never noticed any fret issues and I love the sound. And the looks are of course down to taste.
I'd definitely think about getting a pro refinisher (not the local guitar tech) to do it - not necessarily the whole body, maybe just the area in question. Knowing what type of pen was used to sign it is fairly crucial - see here: http://www.ehow.com/how_4866104_preserve-a...hed-guitar.html Here's some stuff on DIY autograph preservation: http://www.elixirstrings.com/tipsandtricks...autographs.html http://www.vai.com/messageboard/viewtopic....f=4&t=23932 Clear gloss nitro is available from Manchester Guitar Tech: http://www.manchesterguitartech.co.uk/lacquer.html Try googling variations on - guitar autograph preservation refinish spray - there's quite a lot of info out there. In the meantime, you could stick some clear contact film over the sig to keep it safe.
Thanks! I'll look into it . 15.
Lylodile! Notwithstanding my earlier spoofy joshing (I don't actually dislike Mr Flea at all), I hope you heartily enjoy your new bass! FWIW, I'd think about getting that Sig oversprayed in clear by a decent tech, so's it doesn't get rubbed off.
Haha thanks. It's good so far. Yeah I was thinking of getting it sprayed. Dunno how I would go about it though.

 17. I try to keep my bass in fairly good condition, i.e. I never bring it anywhere without a hard case and I try (un-successfully) not to bump it into anything. Apart from that though, I don't really do anything. I never clean the strings or polish the body or anything like that.
