2.
Back to the OP - Its the strings! These have the largest effect on the sound and he has very old flats. If there's a blind test with three similar basses then he has to use the same strings. Its absolutely impossible to tell the difference between such subtleties as tone woods on an electric bass with such steamroller sonic effects from different strings. All new basses will sound more brittle/brassy/thin (enter adjective here) than an old war horse as they'll have new strings. Also I would willingly tell Marcus Miller he's wrong about maple fingerboards sounding brighter. They look it, definitely, but its impossible for them to sound brighter as the wood is softer and less dense than rosewood. Similarly ebony, being darker is supposed to be warmer but its properties are harder and more dense and so will sound brighter (remember those aluminium necked travesties in the 80s?) Perception is everything. As someone else posted, an old guitar is going to sound great as soon as its known to be old. I don't get the soaked in vibrations thing either, certainly not for mass produced lumps of wood an inch thick.
STOP THAT!! You'll be telling us there's no Father Christmas next!
 3.
wow, the first and third ones are seriously pretty, the second looks like her ric! But SheMoans for a band name, seriously?
Ha! Nice one! Marta and Natalia are both trained professional musicians, Ewa is punk rock through and through! SheMoans are the house band for the TV show "The Szymon Majewski Show", Szymon is pronounced 'she mon' hence the name SheMoans... Marta is also a demon on the violin too:
 4. It's time to spread the love for Polish 'basistkas' My personal favourite, Marta Zalewska from SheMoans: Here's Ewa Koc from Nasty Habits: And Natalia Brzozowska from Nail Quartet:
 5. How's this for a hefty Trace Elliott rehearsal room set-up? Fun Lovin Criminals don't do things by halves...

 7. Back in the days before Macs were used in design studios we used to use surgical scalpels for cutting things out etc. First thing on a Monday morning I managed to slice the corner off the little finger on my left hand. Doh! Another time I managed to slash through the inside of the middle and ring finger on my left hand too. Bit of a hindrance to my fretting hand... Not work-related, but I used to play in a band with a guitarist who rode motorbikes and was forever tinkering about with them - he had most of the index finger on his right hand missing due to getting it caught in the chain of the bike when the engine was running. Not very smart. It didn't affect his playing much as he used to grip a plectrum between his thumb and middle finger instead.
 8.
I'm partial to a nice bit of flange myself.
Wahey! Phaser for me.
 9.
Edit: Forgot to mention that headless basses confuse me too, I seem to play everything about 4 frets further up than usual, I think my brain thinks the first 4 frets must be headstock
Those Status basses you have in your sig must be hard work then!
 10. I use a Warwick Rockbag 2 unit 'soft' case (it's padded on the outside, but wood on the inside). You can buy them from GAK for £37: www.gak.co.uk/en/warwick-rack-bag-2u-rb24200b/7393
 11.
Been practicing my cowstep recently, just can't get it down as well as Sting and his band can from 4:12 onwards.
Oh dear. Is there a *cringe* smiley....
 12.
Seeing her on Wednesday, I'll tell her your interseted.
I know Grog too - we grew up in the same town and my sister went to school with her. Tell her Mat Vidler says 'hello' - that should surprise her!
 13. I think it was Bubinga5 who once said: "the string needs room to do it's thing". I liked that. [sup][sub]Oh, and I prefer the sound of a higher action too, btw.[/sub][/sup]
 14.
Strings and Things?
Et voila! www.stringsandthings.co.uk I remember Clarky got in touch with Strings & Things not long ago and they supplied him with a scratchplate in double quick time, so you should have no problem.
 15.
Yeah, I want something from 1983 - but what was actually good back then ? It certainly isn't Fenders.
I have a lovely MusicMan Cutlass I from 1983. Which I'm not going to sell to you.
 16.
It would be a miracle if I found one seeing as I was born 5 years before the bass guitar was invented.
You'll just have to start lying about your age
 17.
I just hope I'm not suffering from a bad case of G.A.S.
Oh you're going to suffer from even more GAS now...
 18. John Entwistle also had an early Wal, featuring possibly the most horrible scratchplate known to humanity.
 19. I have to say I preferred 'em when they were younger and sillier And funkier And played kazoos
 20.
Get a multi FX pedal to start with. This way you'll get to know what fx you're gonna use & what you ain't & not end up buying a pretty brick. Depending on how much you want to spend, have a look at Zoom, Line 6 & Roland. THere's some in the For Sale section.
Good advice! For years I chopped and changed stompboxes, then I bought a multiFX unit and now my old pedals are neglected.
 21. I stand corrected! Please ignore my witterings...
 22. You'd have to be either mental or have more money than sense to buy a scratchplate for £89! Anyways, we digress... There must be more pre-EBs out there in Basschatland - let's see 'em, folks!
 23. Zippo lighter fuel is also good for removing sticky residue and greasy fingerprints etc - and it also evaporates away leaving no residue of it's own. Simply squirt some onto a piece of toilet paper and wipe items to be cleaned as required!
